For those who are curious, The Black Mages, a band lead by Nobuo Uematsu himself, redid many Final Fantasy songs, including this song, Dancing Mad.
It is a fantastic recreation of the original song, played with real instruments, and with a particular electric guitar addition at the end that, dare I say, puts it head and shoulders above the original.
In fact, it may just be his greatest musical accomplishment in his entire life. IMO of course.
Going through the list, it seems its mostly Snes Titles though most of the great snes soundtracks such as Actraiser, rock n roll racing and Axelay are not even in here?? Also, No Megadrive titles?? Really?? Streets of Rage??? Sonic the hedgehog?? Castlevania on MD?? Outrun?? Wonderboy in monster world? I'm more of a funk guy, I like SEGA music overall.

I think when this video was made it should have used the in-game transitions between songs. In the game, all the 4 boss songs were made to blend seamlessly. Why not keep that? No reason to mess up something as great as this!

Dancing Mad does NOT sound right with "real" vocals, I'm sorry--minimalism just seems lost on this generation.
Sorry but in terms of musical instruments used and how fast the song is played with all of em i have to say that Kingdom Hearts 2 The 13th Struggle wins hands down with no contest. Fast beat beautiful theme and coordination of all instruments at once with a VERY catchy beat that will make you want to pound whatever boss your or enemy your facing at the time.
Something a lot of people are forgetting is that this is a 17 minute track made with extremely dated computer technology. Not only that, but this song is a masterpiece workmanship of organs, and compared to Bach's Toccata & Fugue in D Minor this song takes a lot from it. To me, it's the #1 because of the work done, the tools used, the scope, the length, and the sheer emotion behind it. It's like a choir of angels singing for your demise against a corrupt god. Great choice.
Metal Gear Solid should really have taken the top spot and the MJONLIR mix of the Halo theme somewhere in the top ten. Both of those songs stir emotions that are more than Nostalgia and can stand on their own two feet without knowing the game. MGS is just beautiful in every aspect and the MJOLNIR Mix just gets you -beyond- pumped for whatever game you're about to play. They both evoke an atmosphere that is unique to that song. This one isn't quite as good but it's still good.

I have to say that this list, while not exactly the way I would have it, was very comprehensive and well rounded. Experience truly makes the best lists, so way to go Top100GameMusic! It was a good list.
In comparing Sephiroth and Kefka... they are both similar in origin yet vastly different in meaning.
Kefka was driven to madness (or better yet 'created' for nothing of the man he once was remains) by experimentation to make the ultimate soldier. Kefka ends the world simply because he can, there is no value in existence to him, not even his own. He is not so much a person, nor even a 'god', than he is a force, a Law of pure destruction, unbound by morality, loyalty, or reason.
Sephiroth was hailed as a hero and he fought to uphold that ideal. When the truth was revealed to him though, that he was born of monster's flesh, that what he stood for was a lie, it broke his mind, his heart, his soul. But it is because of his humanity that he became inhuman. Sephiroth wanted revenge, and the world would suffer to satisfy it.
For those who deny the greatness of this music, remember that this was made for the SNES so its capabilities were limited. Therefore, look at it's arrangement and symbolism and not the outdated sound. If the SNES is too primitive, check out the Black Mages version. I'm sure you'll feel better about the decision.

@Winters96 I too love the MGS tracks, but don't be a fan boy yourself, this is his personal list and therefor his opinion! You also have to remember that this track was created on greatly inferior equipment than that of the MGS music, so for its time it really was a masterpiece with great length and brilliant organ playing. Personally i just wish the music in video games would be more widely accepted as actually being more than just " video game music"! shadow of the colossus proves this. =]
Well I listened to the whole thing and I have a few thoughts. Overall it was great, you certainly have an ear for music.
Criticisms: while FF6 does have good music I think it was a bit overrepresented. I thought that songs from Doom (E1M1) or Mortal Kombat would make a presence. I think Sonic and Megaman were a little underrepresented as well. I'd also have liked to have seen the music from the Pacific level of Aero Fighters Assault and possibly the theme to Buck Bumble. Still, a good list
Despite all the fanboyism, it's safe to say we all agree that Final Fantasy VIII is BY FAR the greatest game ever made and that Squall has a cool jacket and, of course 3 evil sorceresses totally pwn BOTH Sepiroth and Kaftaka's candy (and clown) asses
epically. : )
And of course, if you want an originality, just think that Squall is f'ing dead for 80% of the game and there you go, awesomeness in a PS1 Game Case!!

Theres too many game songs out there that deserve to be #1. But i can't blame a person for not putting everything. Your opinion of vgm can only go as far as the games you've played, or ever heard of. At least a song from mirrors edge should've been here. And i'm not surprised nobody has ever heard of the tenkai theme from Onimusha :(

Kefka's conception is all around madness and the pleasure of causing harm and destruction: his Evil is simple, trivial, and then much more wicked than Sephiroth's.

Sure, everyone is entitled to their opinion, but I bet most of you are just saying it's crap because "it's FF boohoo", if something like Zelda was in the first place you'd be all like "GREAT LIST WOOT ZELDA BEST EVAR", even though the Zelda series is just as overrated [if not more] than Final Fantasy.
The actual Music that was selected for #1 doesn't start until 1:20 in the Video, and even then, that's not the part where you fight Kefka, -that- starts at around 8:00 in the Video.
So listen to ALL of the theme before you judge it, most of you who haven't played FFVI probably listened to first minute, or just quickly skipped through and went "...this?", even though you didn't listen to the best part.

Not only that, but this song is a masterpiece workmanship of organs, and compared to Bach's Toccata & Fugue in D Minor this song takes a lot from it. To me, it's the #1 because of the work done, the tools used, the scope, the length, and the sheer emotion behind it. It's like a choir of angels singing for your demise against a corrupt god. Great choice.

Metal Gear Solid should really have taken the top spot and the MJONLIR mix of the Halo theme somewhere in the top ten. Both of those songs stir emotions that are more than Nostalgia and can stand on their own two feet without knowing the game. MGS is just beautiful in every aspect and the MJOLNIR Mix just gets you -beyond- pumped for whatever game you're about to play. They both evoke an atmosphere that is unique to that song. This one isn't quite as good but it's still good.

In comparing Sephiroth and Kefka... they are both similar in origin yet vastly different in meaning.
Kefka was driven to madness (or better yet 'created' for nothing of the man he once was remains) by experimentation to make the ultimate soldier. Kefka ends the world simply because he can, there is no value in existence to him, not even his own. He is not so much a person, nor even a 'god', than he is a force, a Law of pure destruction, unbound by morality, loyalty, or reason.

For those who deny the greatness of this music, remember that this was made for the SNES so its capabilities were limited. Therefore, look at it's arrangement and symbolism and not the outdated sound. If the SNES is too primitive, check out the Black Mages version. I'm sure you'll feel better about the decision.

This song is so epic, especially compared to modern VG music which hides in its HD audios and doesn't try to be revolutionary. The fact that the SNES did this is simply mind-boggling.
Yea I'd rather listen to this than MGS any day; despite the fact that I love the MGS theme. This is just epic beyond words.

@Winters96 I too love the MGS tracks, but don't be a fan boy yourself, this is his personal list and therefor his opinion! You also have to remember that this track was created on greatly inferior equipment than that of the MGS music, so for its time it really was a masterpiece with great length and brilliant organ playing. Personally i just wish the music in video games would be more widely accepted as actually being more than just " video game music"! shadow of the colossus proves this. =]

Well I listened to the whole thing and I have a few thoughts. Overall it was great, you certainly have an ear for music.
Criticisms: while FF6 does have good music I think it was a bit overrepresented. I thought that songs from Doom (E1M1) or Mortal Kombat would make a presence. I think Sonic and Megaman were a little underrepresented as well. I'd also have liked to have seen the music from the Pacific level of Aero Fighters Assault and possibly the theme to Buck Bumble. Still, a good list

Despite all the fanboyism, it's safe to say we all agree that Final Fantasy VIII is BY FAR the greatest game ever made and that Squall has a cool jacket and, of course 3 evil sorceresses totally pwn BOTH Sepiroth and Kaftaka's candy (and clown) asses
epically. : )
And of course, if you want an originality, just think that Squall is f'ing dead for 80% of the game and there you go, awesomeness in a PS1 Game Case!!

Theres too many game songs out there that deserve to be #1. But i can't blame a person for not putting everything. Your opinion of vgm can only go as far as the games you've played, or ever heard of. At least a song from mirrors edge should've been here. And i'm not surprised nobody has ever heard of the tenkai theme from Onimusha :(

@stevieFFmaster: I sense some Sephiroth, here :) He was a much more fleshed out opponent, if you want, but you can hardly qualify his behaviour as mad, nonsensical or insane - it was just an extreme (fantasy) reaction to a (fantasy) tragedy.
Kefka's conception is all around madness and the pleasure of causing harm and destruction: his Evil is simple, trivial, and then much more wicked than Sephiroth's.
Different flavours of Evil for different tastes.

Kefka is, indeed, the greatest villain ever. He alone makes FF6 the greatest video game and story in existence. Enslaved the world and became fucking God! If there was a God before that, Kefka fucked his shit up and made him his bitch. This song is just so epic and brilliant that it really does deserve the spot. One Winged Angel be damned. Indeed, I believe if Beethoven or Mozart or any great composer would listen to Nobuo's music, they would probably break down in tears from how glorious it is

I'm guessing most of you didn't even realize the song actually starts at 1:20, and when you're fighting Kefka it starts at around 7:40.
Sure, everyone is entitled to their opinion, but I bet most of you are just saying it's crap because "it's FF boohoo", if something like Zelda was in the first place you'd be all like "GREAT LIST WOOT ZELDA BEST EVAR", even though the Zelda series is just as overrated [if not more] than Final Fantasy.

Oh wow, some of you people...
The actual Music that was selected for #1 doesn't start until 1:20 in the Video, and even then, that's not the part where you fight Kefka, -that- starts at around 8:00 in the Video.
So listen to ALL of the theme before you judge it, most of you who haven't played FFVI probably listened to first minute, or just quickly skipped through and went "...this?", even though you didn't listen to the best part.
