  • The only reason I know this song is because of the title = my name.

  • My name is Marcella. Haha.

  • WOO HOO for all us Marcella's out there !

  • If memory serves me Mo Ostin signed the boys to Warner Bros for distribution of the boys own label known as Brother Records beginning with Sunflower. Capitol Records isnt the only label in the history of blunders by any means. If it were not for EMI /Parlaphone's persistance regarding the Fab Four, (speaking of the cash cow of profits) their US partnership with Capitol may have forced the Brian and the entire crew to jump ship even sooner. New album & tour means redemption for Capitol Records !!

  • My names marcella <3 but i hate it. do yourselves a favor looks your guys names up on urban dictionary

  • There are shades of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons in this song. And if so, Brian took it to a much higher plateau.

  • omg ! lol tehe :-)

  • great lp - my theory - i think they released the weak singles so the lp would flop and that would make carl join the beach boys.

  • no me impresiona

  • i only know 2 ppl named marcella and i thought it was such a unique name so i wanted to see if anyone on youtube had tht name so i looked it up and i saw this and was like OMG

  • The SEXIEST song they ever recorded!

  • Oh yeah xD

  • marcella is my grandmas name :D

  • I Love my friend who is named Marcela! She's amazing and I bet every Marcella or Marcela Is TOO THUMBS UP FOR THEM GIRLS!

  • I love the guitar solo so much ^_^

  • I haven't heard this song since back when it was released! Sometimes a song will pop into my head from somewhere in my memory banks and thats what happened with this one. It sounds so great to hear again!

  • This song is from 1972 and it STILL rocks today. I first heard this song in 2003 when I got the "Classics Selected by Brian Wilson" compilation. Liked it ever since.

  • @1obxeclipsedriver I first heard this song when my brother played the "Concert Album" for me, I was about 10 years old then and I thought this song was really cool. I already loved the surf songs by then but the early 70´s Beach Boys got me really. In a way, that was their best time. Would have loved to have heard more from Carl at that time. He should have started his solo carrier then but I guess he was too much inclined with his family.

  • @ClubViking63 It's tough to leave a band when most of them are your family members...

  • @1obxeclipsedriver I agree with you. But it is too bad that Carl postponed his solo carrier until the 80´s. He was still making good songs then but his producer was "of the times" too much.

  • @ClubViking63 Not only that, but after Dennis died, the band needed Carl more than ever.

  • @1obxeclipsedriver I was talking about the times before.

  • @ClubViking63 Heh. My bad.

  • Marcella's taking over the fk world ! ;D

  • If your name is Marcella than you will probably appreciate my boutique in Michigan. It is called Simply Marcella and all the packaging has your name on it! Go Beach Boys!

  • I,ve known once a Girl named Marcella

  • lol, im a blonde beach bimbo named Marcella

  • MY NAME IS MARCELLA!!!!

  • my name also^^

  • My name's Marcella

  • High five to all the Marcellas out there! We all rock! *high five*

  • hey dis is my name marcella reedy from new zealand an im moari i love dis song

  • SHE'S A BAD GIRL :09

  • don't short change mike love. he co-wrote all those hits by the b.b. he sang most of the leads. and he was way cool back in his hey-day.

  • @thomascomis He added a word or two here and there, the guys in the wrecking crew contributed more to the creative process than MikeyLoveless ever did.

  • hehehehe thats meh name! dont wear it out! ;)

  • One of the best 70´s songs of the Beach Boys, without question!

  • RIP Dennis and Carl Wilson

  • hahah this song is sooo cool! that's my name =))

  • @marcellaakch Hello Marcella, lucky lady!!!!!

  • @marcellaakch It's all in the name!

  • One of the MOST Sexy songs EVER!

    WooHooo..

  • that's my name too XDDD

  • The more I listen to stuff from Carl And The Passions, the more I like it. I maintain that they were at their best when Blondie and Ricky were in the band.

I was actually relieved to find out that Brian didn't really write Wouldn't It Be Nice. The writer called this album "a miserable flop I had no part of"--which wasn't true because he did contribute some songs. Also in the book, Blondie and Ricky aren't mentioned anywhere. I'd have been angry if I'd been either of those guys.

  • PORRA , COÉ CARA!!

  • That's my name!!!!

  • Holy crab! Thats my name! ^^

  • The Beach Boys were incredible between "sunflower" and "holland". Much more diverse in styles, and democracy among the band members for writing, and solo lead vocals.

  • That's my name!

  • My wife's 97-year-old grandmother's name, too.

  • dead yet?

  • @TheUpperRoom477

No. She is very much alive.

  • I wonder how much babymaking and baby names this song inspired?

  • Brian was still there he co-produced and co-wrote this one and sings back up.

  • Carl Wilson was paying attention while Brian was still lucid, Thank God! I always dug this tune, i agree with the comment that this should have been a hit, but W B had quite the stable of artists back then, and face it folks The Beach Boys were putting us all through some heavy changes about the time this was initially released! R I P Carl, you are missed and I agree with Mike Love when he called you the hardest working man in show business! At least, the hardest working Beach Boy! AMEN, ROS!!!!

  • @9erfandex to what youve said:yes, yes, yes and oh yes indeed.

  • Thanks for this excellent track. Havent heard this for 30 years . Was Brian with them then still or I guess just Carl

  • God bless Carl Wilson

  • I love this song and thought of it frequently during my recent 9 month trip throughout southeast Asia, during which I mostly wore sandals.

    "Sandals dance at my feet..."

    I love it!

  • it realy holds well

they were so ahead of there time

  • Marcella is one funky twangy tune. It's more proof as to how inventive and talented the Beach Boys were. It's also more ongoing proof as to how Capitol Records lame promotions department again dropped the ball. This song should have been the hit single released from the album.

  • this was not a Capitol release, but agree with you -

  • @westentrance

The band wit6h with Warners when this was released, not Capitol.

20/20 was the last Capitol album before they signed for Warner/Reprise

  • @RJW14863 Yeah, after a little research I found that out. Still, Capitol marketed the Beach Boys like red-headed step children compared to the Beatles.

  • @westentrance this album wasn't released on capitol. they'd been off capitol since sunflower.

  • i've been looking to replace my copy of "carl & the passions" bw "pet sounds". it was a strange album being stuck together like that. i went thru 2 copies of it. i need another one. i hope it is still available. anybody know?

  • carl thought it was making people buy a record they had already [pet sounds ].

  • @thomascomis It is/was available as a twofer CD. I still have the original wax LP. I was a Beach Boys fan from 1964 till Carl's way to early death. Today I am a Brian Wilson fan, the Mikey Loveless touring juke box has no interest for me. Brian is at least still trying to be creative. Carl, Dennis and Brian were/are artists, Love is a performer nothing more.

  • I don't recall MY original copy of "So Tough" having the BB's name on it..... What gives?

BTW... My name is NOT Marcella.

  • @SyvetheShairks The band was going through some morphis at the time and Carl thought that the name Beach Boys was holding them back with the newer contempory stuff they were preforming. Carl and the passions was NOT the name of the album but a new name they were floating to replace Beach Boys. The album name is simply So Tough and was a reference to their tough time trying to shed the beach, surf and cars image.

  • @IainB1511 blondies music publishing company is called jungle bunny music

  • @spacepatrolman been looking for some of Blondies stuff for a while now I know where to go look, is he also still part of The Stones touring band? met him during the Stones concert in Toronto after the SARS epidemic, and we talked Beach Boys stuff for a while Blondie really loved his time with Carl, there are others in the band he was not so fond of...

  • @IainB1511 there was a couple of videos of him playing live in los angeles in here a couple of years ago I dont know anything about him and the stones [he got into a fight with mike loves brother backstage and that was the end of that relationship i have his album and that flame 45 wasnt ricky playeing with the guy that quit the stones because he didnt want to be a dope addict like keith richards mick taylor before that the rutles ther was supposed tobe a pacific ocean blue tour that never did

  • happy birthday dennis wilson

  • My name's Marcella..........oh.....wait, it's Bob, but now i feel left out, it's a great record nontheless, am i the only person who is reminded of George Harrison during the slide solo ?.

  • Sure, it's a George Harrison tribute moment. The Beach Boys loved the Beatles (and vice versa) and gave them lots of musical respect.

  • My middle name is Marcella.. after this song :P

  • OMG THATS MY NAME LOL

  • Aw, I love this song. My name is Marcella, too. =]]

  • OMG my name is Marcella!!!!!

  • As usual, the tag Brian creates at the end is complex and brilliant. Genius at work.

  • My name is Marcella :) True story, I love this song for that reason.

  • Saw them live in `72(Ocean City, Md) and `73 (Wash DC) perform this song. What great shows and memories still 35 years later. Named my second daughter Marcie ( she says after my favorite Baech Boys song!)

  • Saw the Beach Boys in `72(Ocean City, Md) and `73(Wash DC) perform this song live. Had both LPs, Carl and the Passions So Tough and Holland on my turntable quite often. Named my second daughter Marcie ( she says because of this song!)

  • Hey Nick,

I was working with the band back then. If I'm not mistaken, that was a labor day concert at the convention center. We did 2 shows that night. Jack Reiley (who was their manager at the time) was up in Delaware taking care of some other business. We got to OC a couple days before the shoes as we had just done Columbia MD. Several of the bandmembers and I went to a club called "Ocean Underground" across from where we were staying. (continued in next reply)

  • The guys decided they wanted to jam while the house band was on break. They sent me to the manager of the club. Ricky Fataar told me to tell him I'm their manager and that they wanted to jam, but not be introduced as part of the BBoys, but to wait until we were gone. As I recall it was Ricky, Blondie, Billy Hinsche & Carly Munez. They didn't do any BBoy songs, but they did some serious R&B, It was a great night. One of the best memories I have with them. Thanks for reminding me of this.

  • Hey Big Chief,

That is so cool. Really enjoyed your Ocean City, Md. story. I lived there every summer from `71-`79 working in the family business.I remember the `72 OC, Md. concert. It was a big deal with us "hippie" surfers. The BBoys by then were quite shaggy with their beards and all and their new eco-friendly songs. Dennis Wilson sang solo at the piano a song called "I got a Friend?". I think the encore was 'Jumpin Jack Flash". They were really good. I liked them best `70-73.

  • Nick,

That song Denny did "I've Got A Friend" was written for his wife Barbara. It was on that tour that he received word she was divorcing him. That happened while they were playing College Park, MD. Not enough space here to go into it, but it led to an unfortunate incident at the concert. I wound up having to console him in the dressing room to calm him down. God love him, he came through and finished the show, but it was such a bizarre night, yet it bonded my friendship with him forever.

  • Big Chief, I remember when I saw the BBoys in Wash DC,Dec`73,. It was right about the time they put out that dbl/vinyl BBoys In Concert.Dennis Wilson was wearing a dark tailored 3pc suit on stage, and the girl I was with so ready to get out of her seat and jump his bones. The guy was just a magnet for woman, was a huge talent with his songwriting, and then he just destroyed himself. What a waste. Later at midnight Mike Love was on live in studio WHFS/Bethesda 102.3 FM the local rock station.

  • If I'm not mistaken, that concert was probably at DAR Constitution Hall. I think it was about that time that Ted Kennedy Jr. had his leg amputated due to cancer. Some of the band members stopped by the Hospital to visit him and cheer him up. I had a friend who worked at WHFS. His name was Will, but his on-air name was Chad Periwinkle. Also, back in the early '70s, I also spent time working at an arts newspaper called "Woodwind." Great times and memories in the Nation's Capital.

  • Oh yes, Marcella. What a great song.

  • did you know that brian wrote this about a masseuse?

  • What a guitar solo part way through. It took me a little bit for this to grow on me, but it's a rocking song.

  • NO. 1 BEACH BOYS SONG OF ALL TIME!!! Underrated as hell.

  • one of their best songs-great, fantastic medley

  • ur right

  • Great song, ashame you never here it anywhere, thanks

  • This is another underrated song from the early 70's by a great sixties band. There was definitely a different groove going on at the time and 'Marcela' is yet another manifestation of it.

    Great great song!

  • Great song. The Carl & The Passions album is underrated. Marcella is the best song, but You Need A Mess of Help, All This is That and Dennis's tunes are good too. Plus they do a cool country-ish groove with Hold On Dear Brother where they sound like The Band. Blew me away the first time I heard it.

  • The sexiest song they ever recorded!

  • Totally agree with bchbys. This is one of my all time fav BB song! Saw Brian do this at one of this solo shows... before he stated doing only BB classics.

  • love it, my name is Marcela;)

  • I bought this record for Triple S Blue Stamps I can hear Mike sing "When shes with" at 2:56 but I cant hear it on the record.

  • you know what's funny, a boy told me he wrote a song for me, my name is Marcela and last night while listening to the radio this song came up...hahaaha boy was I mad lol

  • I bought the LP in february 1974...

  • eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.........i love the song...

    btw.....my name is marcella

  • I love this song! The Beach Boys were so underated at this period of their career.
