  • How do I find out which is which?

  • @eighty3bordeaux Which one is which isn't important, what is important is that a sub-$1500 microphone just kept pace with an $8000 microphone. If you would like to figure out which is best its easy to arrange for both to be shipped to your studio so you can come to your own educated conclusion.

  • to my ears, Mic A does better at low volume, but gets a little angular when the singing gets loud. Mic B is not so clear at low volume, but easier to take when it's loud. It is possible Mic A is more realistic, while mic B is more pleasing when the singing is loud (it sorta mashes it up more....) Listening via very old Spendor SA-1 speakers :)

  • @rikvee You're going to hear what you hear... the important thing is to try the microphones in the context of YOUR music and hear which one works best for YOU. The real purpose of this video was to show that you can get comparable results between the two microphones... which ever might be best for your applications only you can decide

  • its to bad you wont just come public because i'em really digging mic A like 2 know witch one it was

  • @AkavelOfficial Sorry - we can't tell you which is which as it will spoil it for others watching the videos. But seriously - the Peluso VTB is an "under $1500" microphone that hangs tough with a Sony C-800G... doesn't that speak volumes?

  • which one is mic A?

  • @novanine9 Sorry to inconvenience you, but please shoot the request for the shootout results to audio@soundpureDOTcom as we do not want to expose the results publicly, and eliminate the "blind" nature of the shootout for the others. Thanks!

  • Witch One Is Mic A

  • @UniversesOnly Sorry to maintain the suspense longer, but we don't want to expose the results publicly, or else it will ruin the shootout for the others. Please e-mail us at audio@soundpureDOTcom, and we will immediately shoot you the results.

  • Mic A is miles better-sounding than mic B.

  • @Michael55443 Thanks for the comment, in a blind shootout it's nice when people take a stance. If you are interested in the results, please don't hesitate to shoot us a message to audio@soundpureDOTcom. What's most interesting to us is that people fall definitely on both sides of the fence- interesting given that one of the microphones costs about 1/6th the price of the other!

  • @darealdealproduction Thanks for posting... you were in the majority.

The important thing is not "which is which" but "which is better" when you are conducting blind-shootouts. Conducting shootouts blindly is an excellent way to not get hung-up on brands, and focus in on your pure aesthetic decision-making. Select the mic that works for you, the preamp that works with the mic, and so on.

Anyhow, if you do want the results, don't hesitate to shoot an e-mail over to audio@soundpure(dot)com

  • @darealdealproduction That goes without saying!

  • Please repeat this shootout with a Brauner Phantom. This comes way closer to the Sony than the Peluso. Thanl you

  • @LosProlosTV Very interesting- we've done that shootout, and did not arrive at the same conclusion that you just made above. We feel that the Phantom is a very nice sounding mic, but a little bit more neutral than the other two. Independently great in its own right, but when comparing the three mics together, the Peluso and Sony were tuned much closer to one another. Brauner went out to make a great mic, but the Peluso really went after the Sony... Thanks for posting tho!

  • c800 is mic: B

  • @TheeAldeen There are three separate examples? Which do you think was which?

Thanks for posting- it's nice to hear a different opinion- most people believed it was "A" at least for the first segment.

For high res audio or answers, you can shoot us an e-mail to audio@soundpure(dot)com anytime.

  • too much verb/

  • @TheeAldeen Well, that's a production choice. Bottom line is that's why we produced it in several different contexts across the three segments. We certainly can't please everyone, but are doing our best to be comprehensive, while at the same time recognizing the financial limitation of creating free, educational videos like this one.

  • ps: both mics sound fine on her voice. I think that guy is stuck listening to 70's music. Get with the times! This sound is today's vocal sound!

  • @chrislago The top end sizzle, and brightness that typifies both of these is absolutely a modern microphone tuning. These are most certainly NOT vintage-sounding RCA ribbon mics. Thanks for the comment.

  • i actually got tears when she got up the high notes 4.05--> such amazing feeling she has..

  • @DjBeowolf88 Appreciate you saying so, and I'm sure that Jeanne does too!

  • You want it straight? After listening to the aiff files I'm not really crazy about either mic. Where I have a problem is in the loud belty parts. They sound basically identical and I hear a similar odd distortion/coloration, kind of a harshness in the upper frequencies on both of them. I hear it listening both through monitors and headphones. Playing through an M-Audio 2496 card which is pretty decent, I don't think it can be blamed on that.

  • @muzician21 You are the first person to say that! You are certainly entitled to your opinion.

The purpose of the shootout was not to demonstrate these microphones as the perfect choice for HER voice- not at all. We were simply comparing the two microphones, one of which is considered to be the de facto standard in hip-hop and rap music, among other things. As you've clearly pointed out are remarkably similar.

Your converter could be improved, but you heard the similarity anyway.

  • @soundpurestudios I have extremely acute & focused hearing and pick up things others don't. Back when some stores used to use these burglar alarms that used sound that was supposedly outside the range of human hearing, it drove me nuts because I could hear them. They gave me a headache.

Are those aiff files the non-compressed variety? Wondering if there's an explanation.

  • @muzician21 Gonna sound like a snob here but I have to laugh at Rap and Hip Hop being used as a benchmark for acoustic reproduction.

But 8 - 10 grand for a mic, IMO there shouldn't be ANYTHING it isn't good for. Whatever the esoteric issues of that M-Audio card that might show up on some test graph, I'll bet you a buck you couldn't pick it out of a lineup in a blind test vs pricier A/D converters. What I'm hearing isn't an issue with the sound card.

  • @muzician21 I will say though that as predicted, compared to the higher res files, listening to the YouTube video is the audio equivalent of looking through a window smeared with Vaseline.

  • @muzician21 Dude, stop complaining like a little girl. if you don't think the shootout is helping you at all, don't listen to it. No need to argue for the sake of arguing. That's kindergarden shit. I heard the shootout on here and decided to buy the c800g. Congratulations on your extremely acute hearing lol, no one really cares! Youtube is silly I find. There's always some stupid people who go on videos just so they can argue, pass the time etc etc... That's pathetic. Get a life.

  • @chrislago Hey Chris, thanks for checking, and the support- when you are ready, don't hesitate to give us a ring for the 800, or the VTB... We typically keep both in stock, great pricing.

  • @muzician21 Look, no offense, but it's really hard to talk about comparing "esoteric issues" as you've called them, through $15 worth of converters. There are indeed numerous microphones that are priced at that level, and there's a reason top pros pay it. We absolutely test and compare the finest equipment on the planet- if we can't hear a difference we are absolutely not going to represent it here- not talking about specs, test graphs, or anything else. We are talking about creating music.

  • @soundpurestudios "..it's really hard to talk about comparing "esoteric issues" as you've called them, through $15 worth of converters..." - What I'm saying is that the sound from this card is good. Would you bet 100 grand (or even 10 grand) that you could pick it out in a blind test against more expensive converters? We both know you wouldn't. The issues I'm hearing isn't because of the sound card.

  • @muzician21 You shouldn't take it personally, you get what you pay for- the sound for that card is not what we would consider good, not by a longshot.

I would not only bet, as would anyone on our staff, that we can tell the difference, but we blindly do shootouts and DO tell the difference.

I would take that bet a step further and wager that you could hear it too. If you couldn't hear the difference, then you definitely don't need to be considering microphones in the high-price category.

  • @soundpurestudios Not taking it personally, I hear issues with the mics.

  • @muzician21 Once again, no one claimed that these were THE perfect microphones for her voice. The purpose was to compare these two microphones, nothing more. In terms of deciphering, and discriminating between two very similar overall sounds, you really can't expect to compare minute differences with that for playback.

For someone that can hear such differences between youtube and the high resolution files, when you upgrade your converter it will be like taking cotton balls out of your ears.

  • @muzician21 The files you have should be the original uncompressed versions. 88.2k, 24-bit is our typical house recording setup.

  • But the audio is good enough to tell this girl has an amazing voice...beautiful.

    **applause**

  • @muzician21 Thanks for saying so- no matter how good the gear is, if the "source" isn't up-to-snuff the recording won't be either.

  • @soundpurestudios I made that comment before I saw the whole video, I see you actually do offer the .wav files.

  • @muzician21 Yes, we ware porbably the only company that produces free content on youtube that makes the high resolution audio files entirely free and available to every single person that watches our videos. WE have a real commitment to helping educate the world about the best boutique audio products and guitar products being produced, and providing the high resolution files enables us to give people the full uncompressed versions- we actually will manually send each high res file, one-by-one.

  • Great in theory but unless you make the original .wav files available this is a pointless exercise. You can't tell anything by the time YouTube's audio compression gets done mangling it, HD or not.

  • @muzician21 Agreed- perhaps you have not contacted us- we ALWAYS make the high resolution wave files available to our audiences, in all cases. Simply e-mail us at audio@soundpure(dot)com. That being said the HD audio stream, while not the best is comparable to many online compressed (higher resolution) mediums. Still compressed, sure, but so is most of the music that is delivered these days. Trying to add the best value we can on this free venue whiel reaching as many people as possible.

  • thank you for the FAST RESPONSE . for 1500 its a great deal .. ur payinn 7500 more for a slight difference .. save the money an learn how to mix da vocals good an u r well on ur way ! thanks agian !!

  • @welcometowormville It's our pleasure- thanks for your comment. There's a lot of truth in it!

  • @soundpurestudios yeah no problem ! i have a question .. what peluso mic would be great for my voice ? im a rapper with a high pitch voice and not any low end in my voice ? if u like i can email u a song i did to listen to .. can u plz give me ur opinion what one to get cuz im in need of a new mic . i have the tlm 103 but its to bright of a mic !!

  • @welcometowormville Based on what you've described, you definitely have the wrong microphone for your voice. Shoot us a message to audio@soundpure(dot)com with the exact same question and we can get a proper dialogue going with you, and help idneitfy the perfect mic for you.

  • @soundpurestudios just emailed you the question and a short sample of me rapping ! THANK YOUUUU SOO MUCH for your time !! reallyy !!

  • Sony C 800G sounded much cleaner than other mic and also more natural, that's why Sony is the best nowadays studio microphone, that's why original price is more than 11 000 US dollars

No wonder Sony has original tube preamp

  • @legionnaires We'd be curious to hear which microphone you thought was the Sony, since the results were not given in the v ideo!!! The funny thing is that many people expressed what you thought, only to find that they had the microphones reversed. While the Sony is a brilliant microphone, a lot of people felt that the Peluso sounded better... anyhow, that is why the ONLY way to conduct any shootout is by doing so blindly. The way that things sound is the only thing that you shoudl judge.

  • To me, the solo vocals sounded better with the mic "A", with "B" sounding slightly darker and muffled. The vocals in the context of the mix however, sounded better through mic "B".

    Question,

Why don't you just post the results here? It seems silly to have to email you for that info. I have actually emailed you 3 times for shootout results and received no response.

  • @TheMrAlrod No one else has had the problem reaching us- very strange, and sorry for the inconvenience. The probelm with posting results is that people literally will be affected by what they are hearing. The real way to conduct a shootout (and the way that we do it in our own professional studio) is without regard to what microphone is which... we go by the old "if it sounds good, it is good" mantra. Anyway, you can e-mail us directly at audio@soundpure(dot)com for results or high res files

  • Mic B Hands down, i think it captures more body in her vocal

  • @erj215 Cool, thanks for the post- most people preferred A, so it's nice to hear some different thoughts!

  • OMG!!!! Marry Me..God Bless That voice.

  • @Etrella12 Isn't she awesome!? That's Jeanne Jolly... great new album out that was tracked here!

  • please let me know which is which to my youtube inbox! ^_^

  • @simplyjustine The shootout results are avaliable (and are high resolution files, if you'd like them) by sending us a message to audio@soundpure(dot)com

  • @davidbahar Glad you are still enjoying ;)

  • @jesucristo199476 Thanks, yes. It's fairly amazing how weird things get at lower youtube settings... we are currently expiramenting with 1080 uploads, and tyring to determine if there is really a worthwhile difference (it is now accepting 88.2k, 24-bit files)... at the end of the day, please don't hesitate to send requests to audio@soundpure(dot)com so that you can take a listen to the high resolution files!

  • @jesucristo199476 Absolutely, please shoot us an e-mail to mics@soundpure(dot)com !!

  • I emaile dyou guys but forgot to comment on the vid! My thoughts:

Setup 1) Mic A is slightly more "sizzly" - I think it's the Peluso

Setup 2) Mic B now has the "sizzly-ness"and is a little less full - I think it's the Peluso

Setup 3) I like Mic B more, so I'll assume it's the Sony. It has less sibilance, and just sounds slightly better on certain words

    Thanks for the shootout!

  • @HorrendousDeathMetal You bet! Thanks for taking so much time to carefully listen to all of the segments. If you'd like to actually know the results, please feel free to e-mail us at mics@soundpure(dot)com for the shootout results, or to discuss either of these mics further.

  • The Sony is clearly B.

I have the Sony C-800G in my studio. There must be something like a built in compression for the highs in the microphone. It sounds more powerful than other mics. I compared it yesterday with my Brauner VMA. The VMA seems to breathe more and the Sony sounds louder. I love the C-800G. But the Sony is very demanding regarding the preamp. It sucks with a Manley SLAM and works great with a Neve preamp or even better a BAE 1028. But the Sony is terrible with the wrong voices.

  • @Starstreet69 Thanks for the interesting and insightful comment. The reality is that many of your observations regarding the Sony pairing with different voices and preamps can be said for many, many microphones.

Regarding the shootout, in which segment did you think the Sony was A? As it turns out the microphones "may have been switched at one point" in which case the Sony may have been A in one segment, but not the others... just curious if you listened through the entire segment!

  • What mic is the B segment it sounds better

  • @TonyosBaby There are actually three different segments, each with soundclips from A and B. They are not always the same. Please send your request for results to mics@soundpure(dot)com and we can fire off the detailed results of the shootout.

Thanks for coming out, and going against the grain, and saying you like B better, everyone is entitled to an opinion, and there were so many people that preferred "A" in segment 1, some people were afraid to speak!

Whatever u like is cool with us!

  • Is that the Blast Pad filter from Pete's Place?

  • @JayUBeezy92 Yes, it is! We love Pete, and are a proud A-Designs dealer

  • @soundpurestudios Hmmm i could tell the switch and one mic had more of a brightness when you hit the high notes and the other mic had more of a warmth to it. I like the mic with the brightness cause it had more of a crisp sound..But also like the warmth of the other one cause it would sound perfect for rap vocals..So they both have great things about them.

  • @suicidaljay Thanks for the excellent post. Please let us know how we can help support your studio!

  • wat kind of headphones are those ?

  • @KhamaliKellyMusic Ultrasones. We work with the whole line, and can tell you all about them. If you want to discuss them, please don't hesitate to call us +1-919-682-5552, or e-mail audio@soundpure(dot)com

  • Great shootout! Can I get the results?

  • @Weever1214 Absolutely, can you simply shoot the request over to preamps(at)soundpure(dot)com we will get the results right to you.

  • I owned both (sold the VTB) No doubt that B is the Sony

  • @Mickaelmusic Very interesting comment, particularly since we have received all of the results of peoples preferences over which was which over the last 11 months

You may be surprised to learn microphone "B" does not necessarily remain microphone "B" in all three of the test segments. We would love to hear what you think was the "Sony" in each of the three segments!

That being said, whether A or B, the real questions that should be asked (in each segment), is which one sounds better

  • @soundpurestudios I actually Meant in the first segment. I didn't really check the rest of the video

  • @Mickaelmusic You certainly should!

  • hey id prefer mic b in my opinion ...=) can you please message me the results im dyin here haha

  • @NewErra23 Can you please send your request for the results to preamps(at)soundpure(dot)com, we will fire them right off.

  • @davidbahar You bet, we will shoot you the results here privately... the vocalist is Jeanne Jolly

  • the fact that i can't tell shows how truly amazing the Peluso is compared to such a good mic as the c800... please tell me who is who!

  • @ThatJustHappened14 Gladly, we will shoot you a message privately with the results!

  • Damn...been listening to this for a long time now lol. I think it''s A. It appeared to have more character....i think. Can you send me the result?

  • @Olivah111 Thanks for the comment, we will shoot you the results now!

  • i like b mic, sned me the results please! thank you

  • @jampop77 You bet, the results are on the way!

Let me know what you think,

    -Doug

  • really cool... I think I preferred mic B. message me the results?

  • @BilboHalfling Thanks for saying so, just shot you the results privately!

  • @BlueThunderPower I will send you the results now, thanks for listening!

  • I liked both, but the first one (A) sounded better for me. Could you please send me the results?

  • @IzzyProductions Sure, I will shoot you the results privately.

  • i think both mics are a great choice on that voice ( Hey! that rhymes!) did any body else think the song was clunky in the mid section? great otherwise though.

  • @jetblackdovemusic Thanks for your comment- it was hard for us to believe that one of those mics was about 15% of the cost of the other one...

  • I think I like mic A. Is is possible to send me the results?

  • @tntbooking Thanks for the message, I will shoot you the results privately now.

  • @blondetele1 you bet, shooting you the results privately now.

  • You can here the sound from the headphones

  • @lenoat702 I assume you mean when she is singing acapella? That may be true. Good thing we don't release recordings with the instruments muted :)

  • @soundpurestudios Maybe some Sennheiser HD 280 Pros will solve the problem

  • @lenoat702 Not really a problem in the mix, but it's something to watch out for, as it can be. The closed-back Ultrasones do a great job. If you are really concerned about this, you can simply place the audio in only one year (when the artists is tracking one ear on, one ear off), or you can reduce their volume. Closed backs are as good as it will get, as long as the latency doesn't affect the pitch.

  • strange looking cooling extension at the back...

also the sound of B is a litte bit "airier" i think, thats why it is very often used in HipHop / RnB...

    Or am I totally wrong?...;-)

  • @thegreatcrazychris Thanks for the comment and critical listen! I will shoot you the results privately right now!

  • @soundpurestudios: could you please send the results...?

I think A is the Peluso and B the sony...

A produces more distortion than B at the loud notes depending on the tubes, like i can say about my pc speakers...

Ive read that the sony has a greater headroom because it has a higher voltage or something like that...thats why it has this

  • @soundpurestudios: could you please send the results...?

cool test and wonderful singer by the way...directly bought the song on iTunes...

Jeanne Jolly - In Between...One of my favourites at this time..thanks

  • One of the best female vocalist on YouTube after a quick skim to show examples to people of brilliance.

  • @savvasmichael Thanks for the very nice comment, Jeanne will appreciate it!

  • so which is which?

  • @djkiptap Shooting you the results privately now!

  • @soundpurestudios send me them too please

  • @ackapollo You should have them now! Thanks for watching, and please let us know how we can help with your studio!

  • Think I found the Frequency!!!! . About 7db boost of 14400 spike high Q and it sounds similar to the Sony very very close. , I went over it like 100 times using ultra high level EQ. 720p vid and popd it into a program.

Top of the line Eqs = Equality , Fabfilter ProQ,Solid state logic XQ ,The best eqs ive tested perfect clear boost without distortion. Waves Rennaisance is almost as good as these,I spend a lot of time demoing ,=) I dont think theres New Hardware Eqs that can match these.

  • @master9716 Hmmmm... if you are really interested in playing with the files, I highly recommend that you send a request for the high resolution sound files. If you are boosting at 7dB I think that you are running into an issue... also, I think that you may have the mics reversed based on what you've stated (wink, wink). The plug-ins get better and better... for simply affecting frequencies cleanly, they are getting close, but for harmonic mojo and musicality, you still must look to hardware.

  • @soundpurestudios 5-7db using the Q control to set a steep boost ,so its a very sharp response using Equality EQ with has a range of +50 Q setting, but i think i set it to less than that I used the uncompressed video that u guys uploaded downloading it from this one site that enables to download the best vid utube has.

  • @master9716 The resolution of the audio that we have is much better than anything that you can download from the web. It is a lower resolution version than what we record here in the studio, because youtube requires that we push up lower resolutions than our 88.2 24-bit, so it has to be down-sampled.

  • Comment removed

  • @master9716 PS . SONY VS NEumann !!!!!! so that all the Neuman lovers can finaly stfu ..and forgout about their outdated technology.

  • Please send the results to me as well, great shoot out, thanks.

  • @oceantracks You got it! Sending you the results now!

  • i like mic b better both sound good you wouldnt be able to tell which mic in a mix

  • i like mic b better

  • @rancer21 Thanks for the comment, would you like us to send you the results?

  • @soundpurestudios It is certainly a matter of taste, and as the mix gets more and more dense, there is no question that the differences between these two microphones narrow a good bit.

  • Mic A plz.

  • @andrewjameswinkler Just shot you the results privately!

  • could you inbox me which mic is which please? thank you ahead of time!

  • @onlyseanmeier You bet, just shot you the results privately!

  • @soundpurestudios Already know what mic it was after reading the tittle and looking at the prices. I wonder if any company makes a copy of sonys condensor , I know some companies have copied other famous condensors for similar sound.

  • please shoot me the results if you can. cheers

  • @joeldadrummer Sorry for the delay, you should have the results in your youtube inbox now!

  • I like Mic A!!! Can I know the result? PLS PLS!!!!

  • @MaRioNum13 You bet, we will shoot you the results privately- please don't hesitate to ask us any questions, we are here to help!

  • I like the singer also... where can i get that song

  • @silvertrigga You should look her up, the artists name is Jeanne Jolly. We were proud to work on her latest album here at Sound Pure... she is incredible.

  • I also liked Mic A... but i want to know which is which

  • @silvertrigga You bet, we will shoot you the results privately!

  • amazing shoot-out! it makes me proud ofJjohnny to see one of his mics go up against the c-800g. i love all of the peluso products and CAN NOT wait to get my hands on a pair of those cem-c6!! great video

  • @mszostek123 Thanks for the nice comment! There's nothing about Peluso that is budget, other than the price. We use his entire range of mics at the Sound Pure Studios, and they have yet to disappoint. When you are ready for the CEMC6 mics, be sure and give us a call... we use them every day in our studio (and have all of the different capsules), keep the mics in stock, and have great prices on them! Thanks for the comment and support of Sound Pure and Peluso!

  • pf.. i need results too!!! pls pls.. if mic a was peluso i'll go and buy it today

  • @themiskaltsidis You bet! We will shoot you the message privately!

  • very well done test! mic a was easily the best. was A the c800??

  • @quanah Thanks for the nice comment! We will shoot you the results privately (we don't post them here because we don't want to spoil the "blind" experience for other watchers and listeners...

  • A comparison video between the TLM102 & TLM 103 & a less exspensive mic would be real awesome !!!!

  • @detroitsdeadliest That's a good idea- those types of tests are done here all of the time- we have tested the 102 and 103 against each other extensively, and would be glad to share our experiences with you if you are considering one or the other. It's tough to capture even a tiny fraction of what we do here on shootouts given that we do so many of them- but that's why if you are considering a gear upgrade, you should certainly call Sound Pure! We will try and do some more affordable tests...

  • "Mic a" all day! So help me god if that isn't the c800

    send results to-

  • @joshlew76 You bet, we will send you the results there! Thanks for watching and commenting... (drum roll)

  • I'd love to know who's who here! Great shootout!

  • This young lady has got the most amazing vocals ever!

  • @kjchicago1 Thanks for the comment, I'm sure that she will appreciate it!

  • Both sounded pretty good, but I must say, MIC A was my choice. Please Private message me the answer to which mic was which.

  • @KamikazeAds You got it... sending them over now.

  • @soundpurestudios They both sound great..........in my book! Give me Mic A Anytime!

  • @kjchicago1 No problem- we will shoot you the results shortly!

  • I like MIC A! What was MIC A?

  • @ega0117 Absolutely, we will send you the results!

  • mic A for sure its the winner!!!! pls tell me wich one is it!!!=)
