Younger Baby Boomers and Older Baby Boomers have to suffer of the mistakes that happen in the 60s. Generation X have to sit and watch. Generation Y have to listen to music while getting a free ride in everything that they do. Millennials have to log on to Facebook.
When the CIA killed Bobby Kennedy, they killed the man who would have probably been our second Lincoln. That is a huge loss for the nation and hard to overcome.
At the 1960 convention, Bobby got right up in Hubert Humphrey's face, poked him in the chest and said "We want your support, or else!" Humphrey stood his ground and poked Bobby right back and said "Bobby, go to hell!"
This was in 1968 and he was saying that in ten years people might have to start wearing gas masks in NYC. I'm sure the regulations he wanted to enact never got enacted under the Nixon and Ford administrations and nobody had to wear gas masks in NYC past '78. In hindsight this is a perfect example of the scare tactics Democrats have been using for the past fifty-eighty years.
"Industry must do something..." And what industry has done since this ad, was relocate factories to developing nations with weaker environmental laws while the American government looked the other way.
RFK was such a visionary....but I got-a' say...he must have been scaring the ba-jeezus out of those poor kids! I mean we're all going to be wearing gas masks, and living underground?!! You just had to love the guy though! Unless you were a Mafia Boss, scumbag murdering Lyndon Johnson, or J. Edgar Hoover. They all HATED him more than than a festering 3 cm hemorrhoid!!
@andrelebaron What about Nixon? There were a lot of hippies still left in Nixon's days, and he was the first President since Franklin Roosevelt to advocate for universal health care.
@lawrence142002 I had no idea, but that would make sense, as Truman continued a lot of Roosevelt's policies. I need to research the great American healthcare debate some more... Not that I would have learned from a Republican that Nixon advocated for it! (Although I shockingly learned from a Democrat that the Democrats were opposed to it at the time, but did have a change of heart in retrospect.)
I turned 11 years old in 1968 and, had I been old enough, I may have voted for RFK for president, had he not been killed. However, being from NY, I wouldn't have voted for him in 1964, when he ran for the senate. It was obvious, even to the most ardent Kennedy supporter, that he planned to use the office as a stepping stone to the white house. He had no intention of serving the people of NY at all. And that's just how it worked out.
@LakersSOCA I certainly didn't know his motives. But since he didn't live in NY at the time he was running, nor was he registered to vote in NY, I could only come to the conclusion that the NY senate seat was simply a target of opportunity.
He was talking about wearing a gas mask in the city. That wasn't visionary, that never happened and never will .He also said we would have to live underground, well...that never happened, never will. Just like Democrats today, he was a fear monger and propagandist to get votes.
@oopsibrokethecow I remember back then in grammer school, they used to show us pictures of people in cities walking around with gas masks on and that was projected to happen in the distant future of the 80's, LOL! It was all bullshit then, just like global warming is now!
This shows Kennedy had started working for his 1980 presidential race well in advance, makes no sense of targeting citizens that can't vote. If Bobby thought this was the way of ingratiating the parents of these critters well, that's how he lost several states. All said, I'd still have voted for Kennedy.
Humphrey had an insurmontable lead in delegates and would have won the nomination anyway. My question is, would Humphrey offered Kennedy the vice presidency, would Kennedy have accepted it, and would a Humphrey-Kennedy ticket win in the November election?
Times have change, look at they are giving Obama a hard time for talking to kids. Could you imagine what the right would do if Bobby did this in the year 2009?
The kids where like "Living underground? O-o-h, I could have a giant mole as my pet! We would build tunnles and have adventures! Wait, that man is talking to me? Should I nod? What did he just say?"
I agree. But I think it is part of the same "what if" that cut down Martin, Jack, Malcolm, JFK Jr, and Pope JP 1. If our own money was not being used to eliminate every leader who is on our side, the world would be very different.

you wanna know ..your right ..thats funny .. they were tugging away at our heart strings with pollution even then! .. gas masks in a few decades...here we are ..40 years later .. no gas masks required ..only now they're telling us fantasys about how the world is gonna be flooded if we dont stop ... funny how the threat gets more and more as the years go by .. wait ...wtf happened to the gas mask threat! did we not jump a step in the threat level? sheesh this country
Let us see. Since he made that announcement the EPA was formed, controls were put on automobiles, unleaded gasoline was used. The steps were taken to guarantee we would not have to wear gas masks, etc.
so why all the threats? did these EPA warrented controls suddenly over whelm the earth?? ... now we need stronger controls right? .. or maybe instead of a gas mask ..to go along with threats now adays ..we'll go get scuba gear how about that?
You should've lived where I do in the late 60's. It was one of the top ten most polluted cities in the country at the time. Now we're considered the country's scenic city. And who's to say Kennedy was wrong? Because people took him seriously we are where we are. But hey if you want to not believe it fine but thankfully more people are coming together to stop pollution and global warming than people like you who.
when i was a kid they told us we were some how going to use all the water up if we didn't stop drinking so much and using so much in showers ... now they have this wild idea that theres gonna be too much water that we're all gonna drowned from it
you enviromental frauds really need to give it up ... and its sad because its normally well too do yuppie white people who go on these parades without a hint of irony
al gore has become a multi millionair because of globalwarming
Al Gore won a Nobel Prize for his work on Global warming. Now don't tell me that the nobel prize ppl are retarded too. But they the ppl who think global warming isn't real are the same ppl who centuries ago would have said that the earth is at the center of the universe and that it is flat not spherical. Typical.
i'm sure gore took a limo to the airport then took a plane to the city hosting the awards... then took a limo to the place the award ceremony was held then accepted his award...but ...he wants to conserve on energy right?
Again, typical argument. What Gore and other global warming ppl want is for government to INVEST in alternative sources of energy, meaning be innovative and INVENT new ways of transportation, etc. Until that happens, there is no other way for them to get around. So yes, they have to use planes and cars to get to places, because that is the only reliable form of technology currently available. They also need it to be affordable for ppl. Hybrid cars are in existence, but are super expensive.
Wow, talk about fearmongering. I think he out-Algored Algore!
