This is one of my all time favorite pieces of music. This version right here. It's so fragile and beautiful, but so powerful and a little creepy/frightening. There's something supernatural here. No question about it. In just 7plus minutes - well actually by the first minute alone - this confirms my lifelong love for Led Zeppelin. It confirms my faith.
There was something dark, mystical, and undeniably magnetic about everything this band produced in the studio. As raw as this is, I like it even more than the polished and pretty version on PG. It is beautiful, and I include PG in my desert island albums - only I hope it is a special edition which includes this version (and any other outtakes)

Sounds to me like a rehearsal version - they've changed it a lot, plus Page's guitar is a bit rough in places - perhaps still working it out? Also the recording is not full studio quality, drums a bit distant, definitely not mastered.

The beginning of this song is a riff that they had been jammin in the studio and recorded it..but with no plans of release..The only reason I know this is because of an interview I read with Jimmy Page in a book or guitar magazine or something.......We are your Overlords
it's ridiculous that they wrote so many incredible songs, pretty long songs aswell in comparison to the average. plus all the "alternative versions" sound completely different to the studio releases. i struggle to play guitar but somehow jimmy page had the skill and mind to come up with the incredible riffs that he did. and no other band since has been as diverse with their material. rush have done alot but for me it doesn't even compare.
Where is this alternate version available? Any advice? This is actually my favorite version of this song ...wish i could find this version (maybe even remastered?) to buy and download (probably too much to ask, huh?).

The beginning of this song is a riff that they had been jammin in the studio and recorded it..but with no plans of release..The only reason I know this is because of an interview I read with Jimmy Page in a book or guitar magazine or something.......We are your Overlords

it's ridiculous that they wrote so many incredible songs, pretty long songs aswell in comparison to the average. plus all the "alternative versions" sound completely different to the studio releases. i struggle to play guitar but somehow jimmy page had the skill and mind to come up with the incredible riffs that he did. and no other band since has been as diverse with their material. rush have done alot but for me it doesn't even compare.

this version and the album are both awesome. I don't understand people saying this is better than the album version, I find them quite different. album version is like going to heaven and this is like going to a dark forest

@JohnEricParramone i like them both but i think jimmy page made the right choice on which to put in the album, same with all the others that have alternative versions. the studios ones just sound more commercially pleasing, you need a certain taste to enjoy this

When and where was this recorded and why the hell have I never heard this before? Friggin Zeppelin, love these guys! This is amazing and the creepyness definitely promotes that 70s reputation of rock bands being ocult, satanic and into Aleister Crowley. That's all I ever heard growing up. Leave it to John Paul Jones to create this sound!
