this song reminds me of the smell of guitar strings, stale practice rooms, and rediculously over ellaborate solos. fucking love it. i might not be old enough to have been there but it still couldn't have been more important to me...
I envy all who were there to see this band LIVE in 1960s. I just found them after seeing on TV this Royal Albert Hall concert. And I fell in love with Cream so that no band can ever match them. Hopefully the guys could have one more reunion I could go to see. Things are not same any more, but their skills are, even if the beautiful looks are left behind.

Good luck and THANK YOU!!!!
@Rich6Brew yep 42 years - gets me too - couple of old headbanging farts togther then! ( i've still got the Goodbye album on vinyl - somewhere but now too old to remember where!)
@Gribbo9999 ....1969..... long hair, slim, wasn't bad looking, did what i wanted and thought i was seriously cool.
Now.... three out of four aint bad.
You know the three that's missing.....sad.
Then again maybe it's not so sad. I like to chill out and go to various Jazz festivals, my wife is certainly my soul mate, the hair is now cropped and i like it.
Plus the fact i know how to work an ipod.......things were never better.
ah the full version. there is an edited version kicking around on youtube (4.01). god knows why anybody would want to edit this perfect example of what they were about live. it just oozes with power and inventiveness from all three. mind you the version on Goodbye is a stormer too - especially Jack's bass...
It was reported at the time in the music press that Tony Palmer was guided by Clapton how to film the concert. So maybe Clapton didn't want the film to give away anything about his guitar technique. Whatever, the strange camera work and editing was almost universally disliked, but it was the last remnant of Cream by the time the film aired on the BBC in January 1969. Also reported in the music press that the concerts were broadcast live to europe. Hopefully without the shambolic editing.
This recording is more than 40 years old, but still beat the shit out of any modern rock bands. IMO Cream is the best jamming band ever in rock history !
fuckin nonsense wank, this is not a band, this is 3 people who hate each other but have to put up with each other to pay the bills, I'm so glad i don't have to work down a pit or shovel shit, pricks
Cream at their best; Great inspiration to me and my band, Especially Bruce (As I'm the bassist); Would be cool if you other Cream fans checked out over Live jam of I'm So Glad, It's at my profile.
No words... the energy in this song is just amazing The cream @ their very best. jack's raw raunchy voce and bassriffs. Eric's amazing solo-ing and ginger's kickass drumming
well let me say this AM FUCKIN SO GLAD THOSE GUYS WERE ALIVE GREAT TIMING LET THERE BE NO DOUBT rockers... if no past .. theres no future just ask granda or granma ?????
What a lot of bollocks comments made by those who don't know any better. It's not about drugs... these guys WERE the cutting edge at that time ! To understand anything... one has to understand history.
Don't like to compare old with new but... get any current 'good' live band and give them the exact equipment Cream are using here and see if they can play anything! Guitars don't stay in tune, underpowered vocal PA, bugger all stage monitoring - how the F could they even here each other properly and still play so well?
Add another factor: Drugs. Must be remarked the fact that Cream members used drugs extensively... just look the way Eric Clapton open his mouth while he sing
Cufdam: Dude, the bands these days are good at live because they have exelent equipments??? I'm not want to piss you off but.....did you ever watched small concerts with beginer bands or something? There's VERY good stuff and performance out there my friend!!! I've seen bands doin outstandings performances with underpowered amps and low cost drums amplifiers ( Cheap microfones ). Is wrong to underrate professionals by their time.
I often read where one guy will say SRV is better than Clapton or Claptons better than Greeny, this guitarist is better than that guitarist. I think that's cool and it doesn't bother me, i've read some excellent debates.
This is what really pisses me off is when they say the likes of Clapton is crap, when they say Claptons never a blues man.
No he's not god, but he's a seriously talented musician......in my opinion.

To anyone that was a teenager or in their early 20's during this period. Do you remember the cool guys passing by you in the street with rock or blues albums under their arms, i do. Here's my top 5 cool albums to carry in the late 60's early 70's.
1...Wheels of fire, Cream.
2...The Beano album, Mayall
3...The first Taste album, Taste
4...Tons of Sobs ,Free.
5...Disraeli Gears, Cream.
Hovering out the top 5 Led Zeppellin, King Crimson and Jethro Tull.
you cant say that anyone is the best. they are all the best in their own ways. look for rory gallagher and johnny winter. they are all great but they got other styles.

The mastery and intensity he played with at this show for as great as he is you'd be hard pressed to find tape where he matched this performance !
Remember this era well, slim with long hair, cool time ,cool band and cool music.
Now, i'm a couple of pounds heavier, lost a lot of that long hair and as for the music today....well!
The good part is, i'm still listening to great guitarists, mostly from yesteryear. When i look in the mirror i can't see the bald patch on the back of my head and although i'm not cool, i still think i am. Rock on brothers and sisters!
Ever I think after cream no still be more music, they are in the frontier of music. "Clapton is god" was born to see cream live like this. My head exploid and I have a trip without smoking nothing. Sorry my english
I'm just so glad I was born in 1954 so when I was 13 I could listen to Hendrix, Clapton and Townsend, etc. We didn't care who was better - we just enjoyed them all. At 50+ years old, I still listen to them and my four children know them well - forced to listen to tapes when travelling the 1100kms from mackay to Brisbane and back during the school holidays - good way to stay awake - better than drugs.
I saw Sabbath live at Festival Hall in Brisbane in 1972(?). They blew 3 fuses in 15 minutes. They had to increase the ampage to the Hall - awesome. Hope you get out and create some memories..
Clapton admited in an interview that in 67' he was shocked about Hendrix style.Untile than he had no competitor.Untile then he was the God and he still is.Watch Layla or Cocaine. On the Rolling Stones list, he must be not on the 4th place but the second after Jimi.
Their still every bit as good as I remember em from 70. What a trio, most trios make noise in comparison. These guys rock hard but still maintain a classic unique sound & style.
best guitarist has to be roy buchanan a friend of jimi and clapton and around before both till 88 :( master of the telecaster and those volume swells he does blow anyones mind or make the guitar cry literally and if u want quick fingers fuck page look for buchanan. the reason gary moore exists really
I always felt that Jack Bruce was a better bass player and Ginger a better drummer than Clapton ever was a good guitarist if that makes sense. When I listen to live Cream I listen to Bruce and Baker.
damn.. i always doubt about who's better, clapton or page.. when i hear clapton's solos (like this one) you could say he was the real guitar god.. but then you hear jimmy page's stairway to heaven.. holly crap.. you just know they were the best..
This features everything that any band ever could wish to achieve, Ginger, Clapton and Bruce all play their own race, going nuts on their instruments, but somehow it all comes together super tight, perfectly fitting and amazing as nothing else.
These lads are artists and this is music.
Why is there none of that today? Or perhaps there is, but no
ESTAN POSEIDOS POR EL DEMONIO!!! (dirian en america....)

Great song. The lyrics are so deep and thought provocing.
avp010994 2 years ago
avp010994:
The song, by Skip James - to whom, incidentally, Clapton personally made sure the appropriate royalty payments were made - is a celebration.
Cream had scant regard for vocals, using songs purely as jumping-off points for the improvisations.
Their motto was simple:
Forget the message, forget the lyrics and just play.

So what? Who was better than Hendrix at the time?
At the time he was on another level.
People make it some kind of guitar competition all the time.
It was about BANDS at the time.

Hendrix had one style, Clapton was, and still is extremely versatile.

This is the trio that no band will top anytime soon. Even as old as they are now, they still kick major ass.

Clapton was second to Jimi Hendrix who was on a whole other plane of the Universe.
Looking for Page at his best, listen to the solo on "Dazed & Confused"...talk about quick fingers.
