  • You're really cute.

  • I think until proved an illness fat prejudice will never go away.

  • I don't mind "chubby" people. It doesn't even turn me off. But those really fat monsters do get me sick and make me wanna vomit all over their faces. Don't tell me that fat people are sick because it ain't true. There is no fat gene. Never has been. And never will be.

Quit McDonald's and Pizza Hut and you'll see the difference.

  • @vitormangraviti There are two main types of eating problems in obese people: quantity and quality. I have a quantity problem. I mentally do not feel when I'm no longer hungry but I do feel when I'm full. I've never had the quality problem, I eat meat, vegetables and fruits mainly but just too much of it. I can tell you that this is because I am unable to feel satisfied. I think the quality problem is caused by the release of dopamine when we eat flavoursome foods and becoming addicted that.

  • Fat prejudice is pervasive in our society. Despite having told a recent man I was dating that I was obese in the past--he laughed, not believing it since I am thin now--dumped me upon seeing a pic of me obese. I definitely could not have controlled this. I was thin most of my life, but I gained while on meds for medical problems after being hit by a car while running (steroids and what-not). I was also severely hypothyroid and a condition that required surgery. Once addressed, thin again.

  • finally, an overweight person who has seen the light. losing weight is not about confining to society but its about being the best you can be. since you understand that, an amazing, healthy, and fit lif is in ur grasp.. best of luck

  • I love this video. You really touched on some great questions and points. This is the first of your videos that I've seen and I definitely look forward to checking out some of your newer videos. I hope you're still posting! :D

By the way, I totally agree, Fat Prejudice in this country is a huge problem. We as a society need to focus less on pressuring people to be a certain weight and more on pressuring people to eat healthier and exercise more (regardless of size).

  • Your very pretty, and look nice and healthy with a "glow" about you. I don't know what your saying (cause I have no sound at the moment) but you are super attractive, so be proud and feel lucky!

  • Music made you hard to hear :(

  • Yeah I could not agress more, it is socially acceptable to make fun of people or jugde them bases only on their wieght. I hope that one day it will be politically incorrect to make fact jokes because the reality is it is hard to be thin and everybody has different body types. I know for a fact that I eat so much healthier than all my friends and yet, I am one of the biggest girls. It's really hard to live in a society where people view you so much differently if you are fat than if you are thin.

  • Im 5 ft 1 inch and i wiegh 170 lbs i got ignored because i wanted to be waited on at a store and was descriminated against because the guy helped a skinny blond chick and i was ahead of her.

  • I don't think it will go away. Unlike being a particular race etc., being overweight is usually a choice and being obese is almost always a choice. Yes, some people are naturally larger, but no one's natural state is 300lbs. It won't go away because people don't have sympathy for those who consistenty make bad choices or simply fail to make good ones and deny that it is their own fault.

  • @ lionofjova.

"when you assume, you make an ass of you and me"

I'm not fat (bemoore4 is my 2nd account), never have been. Nothing in my post stated that I was "fat", but since I'm sympathetic to fat people, I must be fat? Sorry. No.

But I don't live in a vacuum. I know people who are overweight, I watch how fat people are treated around me, and there is a prejudice.

Lastly, not every fat person is a big lazy slob who simply overeats. You need to educate yourself.

  • When 135 lbs looked great but thought I was SO FAT 20 yrs. later I am 100 lbs heavier and now OTHER people think I am SO fat & it HURTS but I don't have diabetes or high cholesterol. I try hard to get exercise & I eat VERY healthy. Some reasons I gained the weight over 20 years were; having 3 kids & a big weight gain due to a med (Lithium) which was prescribed after a MIS-diagnosis. I only eat "Adtkins" bars for candy. Sometimes I want to scream this at people who judge me but why bother?

  • The prejudice factor may go political, but it would be a paradox. Politics, media, advertisements etc. are means of control themselves.Laws would try to control the prejudice while their commercials advertise processed foods. The only thing that gets to me in people is their willpower. If you cannot control yourself, honestly, what do you have in this world? At the same time I understand its hard with things like the TV pressing thoughts into peoples minds. Its tough but we must persevere.

  • Will "fat prejudice" ever go away? Nope (Sadly) because society has no real sympathy for overweight people. Why? Because they see that condition as a choice - as being that person's fault. Gender, race and sexual preference aren't seen as choices, so it's "mean" to attack people on those grounds. But overweight people "did it to themselves" so it's OK to make fun of them. That's dead wrong, but until that mindset changes, fat folks will be an easy (and excused) target. Great video, btw.

  • How is it not your choice to be fat? How long did you spend online today? How long did you exercise?

  • The way I see it: I never understood why people flame on fat people. Some can't help it because of their build. It's like the world expects us all to be thin. I am overweight, but I am trying to do something about it, but I don't hate the idea of being overweight. Besides, it's not like I eat unhealthily all the time. I have my moments, but I know my limits. Of course, I don't take fat jokes and such hard, but if someone's fat, the person isn't always unhealthy. That's just me.

  • I agree with you: "I don't think fat is who I am, I don't think thin is who I am"

  • That's so true that cheap food is so full of calories and that it costs decent money to eat well. Little Debbie and Top Ramen sum it right up. You would think that it would be the opposite -- raw, unprocessed food takes less effort to make so it should be cheaper right? Hmmm. . . sounds like a conspiracy theory in the making. One of these days someone is going to step up, speak out and make a difference about weight-related societal issues.

  • Yeah, some people just go through their entire life hating and bad-mouthing almost everybody. And promoting all these manacle, oppressive, and controlling ideas for society, as the solution. I'd hate to be married to someone like that, lol. Usually, their only friend is the person who gazes back at them from the mirror... Don't let those people get to you, hun. They're only good for peeing in the wind.

  • Fat prejudice is wrong, but common. The whole thing about them fining people in Japan is the exact reason why I am AGAINST universal healthcare. Although hard, people make choices. They have the choice to eat right and exercise. We don't have a choice in our race, but we have a choice whether we eat pizza or a salad. You look amazing. I will video respond about this.I have a lot more to say but not enough characters to express my thoughts.

  • I can't wait to see it!

  • you look stunningly beautiful, erin. :)

i think everybody makes fun of everybody in this world.

    unfortunately.

don't get me started on the high cost of healthy food.....i think it's one of the grand conspiracies of the u.s.

  • I so agree!

  • I don't think it will ever become socially unacceptable unless there is some kind of movement to make it so. Even then it will take several decades or more to change things.

I am guilty of enjoying fat jokes even though I am fat or was obese at the time. There is some comfort in them particularly when it comes from another fat person. I have also been the target of a fat joke and it hurt really bad.

By the way, what was the music in this video? I liked it a lot.

  • The first song is "Venus" by Air, and the second is "Inerlock" by Stereolab

  • I agree with your comments about fat prejudice especially what you say about what it says about class and income level. A great stat people should know is found in the book Freakanomics. It says that education and income level is a better indication of heart disease and health than physical factors, I think the implication is clear. Furthermore I don't think fat prejudice will ever go away, mainly because people, any way you look at it are shallow creatures, we evaluate ourselves on appearance.

  • I also want to comment on your accusation that rich people are skinny and poor people are more susceptible to becoming obese. It's not about rich or poor- it's about what you choose to put in your mouth. And even those horrible fast food restaurants that we so frequently dine at now have much healthier options for the same minimal prices as a fatty value meal. It's all about choice, not status... unless you are talking about cosmetic surgery. Thanks for posting- and BTW- you look great!!

  • I honestly think your rebuttal to her claim about rich people being thinner than the poor is inaccurate. If you look at the healthiest food, especially organic food in grocery stores and top restaurants, it is much more expensive and price being the trusty rationing device that it is will undoubtedly exclude some people from buying it. People who have less money can not afford top quality food, and cheaper options like McD's and other fast food is always cheaper.

  • Personally, I think that being politically correct is an infraction of our constitutional right to freedom of speech. And just because someone doesn't say something to your face doesn't mean they don't say it at all. Tolerance should be taught at home and not forced upon us by the media. With that said, I will add that I am no skinnie minnie and am much harder on myself than anyone else could be. If being overweight makes you happy, thicken your skin and defend yourself. If not- take action

  • You know, I agree with you, but from my own perspective here in US there is A LOT LESS prejudice than in my native country. Also because there aren't that many obese, overweight people there and lifestyle is less sedentary. Don't forget that being skinny is as someone said is shoved down to our throats that causes a lot of prejudice. I don't think that's going away anytime soon.

  • the waist thing is true. I think its 35 inch waist for woman and 32 for men.

  • Another reason for fat prejudice is because the media shoves it down your throat that skinny equals beautiful.

  • my current boyfriend has a problem with "fat people". IRONIC, cuz i'm fat! ahahah

but he's always felt that they are just lazy slobs, and they've done it to themselves..and how there is no such thing as emotional eating. I've spent my relationship with him educating him on it, but yeah. it's definitely prevalent.

  • YOu shouldn't waste your time with him at all if he is doing that to you.

  • well, it's how he was raised really. nobody in his family felt that food was just as much of an addiction issue and weight being a safety net as alcohol or drugs. he doesn't see that over eating can be considered an eating disorder as well. He doens't disrespect anyone or treat me bad at all, he's actually very gentle with me...but his views are just negative towards fat people.

  • And also, I believe that educating people who feel that way is the first step to make people understand weight. He is clear that he doens't have to stay with me. he chooses to because he knows i'm more than this body. but his views are slowly changing. but thanks for the concern hun :)

  • Does it ever negatively affect your self esteem when he makes these generalizations?

  • ahaah it used to definitely affect me! even if I am over weight, I've never really thought of myself being less than anyone else. But he isn't that great with communicating his feelings appropriately, and i started to feel horrible. But, I realized his feelings are HIS problem. Ignorance can be conquered with education.

  • I went to Sweden and I lost weight during my vacation because their way of life is so different. It is a walking city -- like in NYC -- and everyone there is slim. The food is fresher and taste a LOT better. Their portions are smaller but leave you satisfied.

Anyway, I do think that fat prejudice will be the last thing to die because I feel that it is something that no one wants thus people think it is okay to make jokes about it.
