Yeah, they are, they normally have silk enveloping them, but they are about to be fried to feed hungry chinese.
And yes, they eat these in china.

They do that because if they allow the pupa to live, the moth will break the silk when if emerges, making it's purpose to live no more fruitless than to continue a new cycle for the next generation of silk worms.

Well yes, I knew that, but they eat the pupa inside the silk afterwords in china. Talk about killing two birds with one stone eh?
Oriental food sure is unique.

And no matter what species of lepidopterran it is, metamorphasis is always fascinating.
