With sub sonic rounds there is even less sound...but there is always going to be some sort of sound.

The sound you hear in this video isn't a suppressor not doing its job, its the sonic boom (more of a crack like gunnaraw said). If you look up a video using sub sonic ammunition, you will notice a difference, and it is much more like the movies.

The super sonic crack can still damage you hearing. I would never use super sonic ammunition in a suppressed rifle without ear muffs.

@kungfufreak360 No, I won't. The sound pressure level, at my ears, will be 120-140dB when I am firing super sonic ammunition with a suppressed rifle. That's not hearing safe!

@Spyguy1019 It depends on the model but many suppressors are between 15 and 20 cm (6-8") long. The shortest (centerfire) suppressor I have found is the Surefire Micro which is 10cm (4") long. One of the longest suppressors I have seen is the AAC Cyclops. It's a .50 BMG suppressor and is 40cm (15.75") long.

@gunnaraw I wouldn't go without hearing protection until you get into the 12ga level guns, 12 gauges have a deep boom, it's still loud but the deep pitch is WAY less damaging than the high pitch crack of a rifle.

@drewnickel A 12 gauge shotgun, with a 28" barrel, produces a sound pressure level of about 150 dB. One with a 18" barrel produces a SPL of about 160 dB. In other words: A shotgun with a 18" barrel is about as loud as an unsuppressed 308W rifle with a 20" barrel. A shotgun with a 28" will be about half as loud as a .308W rifle but the sound pressure level is still above the threshold of pain and will cause hearing damages.

@HUMMVE100 I don't think so, they make weird sound effects but most visual effect editors are inexperienced with muzzle flash. Have you ever watched "Live Free or Die Hard", you see could see huge muzzle flashes coming out of a fully automatic suppressed MK12 rifle firing from a helicopter.

@rawdawg15 It's really not that hard to buy well any gun, even at 16. I'm sure this guy got his legally from a gun shop and his mom or dad got it for him (not sure what age you need for a gun license) if he has a license then he could of bought it legally himself.
