On Lion when you press f3 it open's Mission Control. When I hold f3 and fn (alt), it open's system preferences, when i hold f3 and ctrl it send's all windows at upper screen. :(

if red bars are in your way then your pc is probably crap (like mine is). to solve it i use Optifine!! it really helps smooth out the game for me

For those on a mac: if you're pressing Fn + F3 and it's still not working, go to the top next to the apple icon, click "minecraft" - services - service preferences. There will be an option for f3 show spaces or something. Unclick it, exit, then try it again. It fixed it for me.

@MsDudester well, for me, fn + f keys shoudlw ork (and it does), but in minecraft, f3 doesn't seem to work.... maybe it's because I'm using the demo ;D But fn + f3 works on the actual game. Hope I helped!

To get rid of the red coordinate bar you meed to turn down anything that will increase memory intake(I.E. render distance, graphics, etc.)
