  • She is something special. When she is singing into the cello, it just felt to me like the essence of sex. I almost can't describe it without slipping into cliche; my words kind of fail me. The best I can think to describe it is like two ancient heartbeats right next to each other. Surprisingly powerful.

  • Wow Tanya Tagaq you have an amazing voice... you are a real natural.... Keep up the amazing work/.....

  • they sound like me when i got asthma attack lol

but thanks, this is wholy new to me, like a new kind of "harmony".

    good job!

  • Absolutly stunning. So powerful. Thank you Tanya! Your art helps open me up to my own potential.

  • Everybody is complaining about the way she sings.

I am part Inuk. I'm not offended.

  • Omg, 5:35. When she starts crying, SO much passion. I can't imagine the feeling that is going through her body.

  • are the women horny for whitemen?

  • what a terrible video. i can barley hear hear throat singing.

  • the title is so wrong !

a stringg quartett in herr throatt !

  • 15 people need to stick to NASCAR videos.

  • mindgames meets throut thinking - so- no soul out.

  • Piuyukpaaluk!!

  • i said that becuse she giving the wrong idea of inuit throat singing and thats a no no in my point of view she shouldn't be doing that the whole world has to know how it's has to be. it been with two ladies and always has to be with two ladies it's just tridition

  • @nunavunmiut She does it that way too. There's no reason to stifle any creative energy.

  • @nunavunmiut This is The Kronos Quartet she is some nobody Inuit singer you should be happy because of them they have brought attention to this genre that no one would have heard about otherwise.

  • @nunavunmiut Repetition reduces progression. When you observe how humans communicate on this planet you will see that we have a lot yet to learn. When we open borders an mix traditions we got a chance to see old wisdom in a new perspective and theres nothing "no, no" or "wrong" about that in it`s own natural exposure. It`s only "bad" in YOUR mind cause YOU are the one who accept it as "bad" in YOUR mind. What do YOU choose to represent in relation to the things you observe? Thats the question.

  • I love this!

  • I was told that I sound even more earthy than Tanya when I am drunk and try to throw up .. won't be long before those Kronos dudes knocking my door I guess

  • best piece ever u guys

  • if you like this, you should check out what some of the top beat boxers are doing. unless, you're only able to enjoy this kind of thing cuz it "cultural."

  • @avalanchesoul Not everyone loves ghetto just because it's ghetto.

  • @RussMoxham

uhh....? i don't know what you're trying to get at with your "ghetto" comment. if you don't see the parallels between what she does and other mouth musicians, too bad for you. and if that is the case, you are also most likely a denier, or ignorant of, or delusional about, the pretensions of the aesthete.

  • If those frozen tundra could speak, it would make this enchanting sound. It harmonizes with the culture, the beleifs and the enviroment of that part of the world.

  • @lysiaiqaluk - was wondering if you saw what she was doing as a deep and historical representation of Inuit culture...

  • Yeah...you sound like a HATER. She is not obligated to be who or what you think she should be. She answers only to The Creator, not to you. Find your own center. Celebrate the joy of music and appreciate the artistry in Ms. Tagaq's gift from The Creator--her voice.

  • ok there nunavunmiut, i'm sure you're being hypocritial saying all this about tanya, yet there are aspects about your life that other inuit wouldn't consider a part of an inuk lifestyle

  • @nunavunmiut - i'm curious what you think of Tanya's inuit singing, and how it seems when you combine an ancient form of music, with western instruments like the cello. is that why you think she is 'messed in the head?'

  • Tanya Tagaq + Jesse Zubot + Jean Martin

    Première française samedi 7 novembre 2009 à 21h

    Satellit Café

44 rue de la Folie Méricourt - Paris 75011

    10 euro

  • You have to be joking surely? Why would you mention such fakes and con artists as Tsarion, Zagami and Deagle here? Intelligent and informative? Ha ha ha. Instead of promoting such bollocks, try listening to the excellent music of Tagaq and Kronos.

  • Anyone know where I can listen to the finished song? seems to be a Brilliant gathering of talent.

  • I met this girl 10 years ago in Vancouver. One month later, I find out she was working with Bjork. Good luck to her :)

  • Does anybody know where I would be able to buy this? I love Tagaq, and I think this is just the neatest idea!

  • lol all you have is a string lol

  • very weird...think i like it! :D

  • I met her in North Vancouver She is awesome :D

  • I'm not trying to mean or anything but...

Have any of you heard what the Inuit elders think of her throatsinging?

  • Actually, I'm curious. Do you have a link to where an article or something about what the elders think?

  • Wonderful and vibrant collaboration!

  • you guys take things so seriously!

    You guys are the ignorant!

I say this because I know you guys arn't Inuit!

  • I LOVE tagaq!!!

  • wow! I love this!

  • The idea with the colors was spot on.

  • Is this an album??

If so where and how can I find it dammit!!

  • I'm happy to see Tanya Tagaq working with the Kronos. I had no idea until now. I was lucky enough to see her perfomance here in montreal last year, and it was probably the most intense\passionate\possesed\dreamy\real shit i have ever seen. She is really nice to talk to as well. Kronos- ingenious as usual!

  • BEAUTIFUL!

    These are real souls!!

  • ...oh and, on top of being on Medulla and Volta, Tagaq is also on the Drawing Restraint 9 soundtrack which was composed by Bjork.

  • i know she is on Medulla and DR9 but where does she feature on Volta? I don't think she's on that album. I recently got her 2 solo albums, they are great!

  • Um? Greenland? Try Nunavut, Canada. I saw her live recently and even though sh ewas sick and said she was only working at like 40%, she was AMAZING. I can't wait to see her again. So proud she's a native to Canada.

  • shes great!!....so is Lucie Idlout!

  • I love this. But he talks about her as if she's retarded. Whatever, they're all amazing musicians. :)

  • Tanya Tagaq is like a female Mike Patton. They did do that one song together "Fire - Ikuma" which is a great song. She also reminds me of Bjork in some ways.

I love this type of music, when artists explore new idea's and connect with one another. It makes their music so much more enjoyable to see how they put everything together.

  • she is under mike patton's label. Just saying this if you didnt already know. I just heard of her by going on the myspace of ipecac records

  • i totally agree about the Mike Patton part...but i'm not sure what to think of her sound..i like some parts alot and hate other parts..she's actually signed on Mike Patton's label, Ipecac Recordings

  • Yeah, I know. Found out later on. I was just saying that they seem similar and the song they did together was awesome, I liked it so much I used it in one my videos.

  • @bennude10 She's more like a female THROAT SINGER. I wish people would stop using Mike Patton as some sort person who "set the stage" for vocal experimentation. It's no different than calling Lady Gaga an innovator. Seriously, this is waaaaay beyond Mike Patton.

  • @madsketcher I'm fully aware Tanya Tagaq is very different from Patton, when hearing her for the first time singing with Patton she TO ME sounded like Patton a bit, and a marvelous singer at that. Why is it such a big deal that I think she sounds like someone? Who cares what I think or others, just enjoy the music. ALL musicians are inspired by some great musician. So are you gonna go on a pointless youtube rant about how I think she seems like Bjork too? Did I post that comment a year ago? Ha!

  • @bennude10 I'm just being amusingly pedantic >:-3

  • @madsketcher alrighty roo! ^_^

  • @madsketcher It's because Mike Patton's a guy. And god forbid we allow a woman to get credit for her own work! Everyone needs to make the man the master and the woman the follower.

  • What a wonderful thing it would be to be able to write "Inuit throat singer" as your occupation on your income tax return. She's amazing and sexy, too. Let's hear Sarah Palin do THAT.

  • awesome how do they throat sing its really kool but when you dont know what it is

(not to be offencive) but its kinda creepy

(im sorry but its kinda creepy)

(not to be mean or anything)sorry

  • it also appears on bjorks volta...

indeed, things that are renewing, are in the

    beginning awkward...

    grtz

p.s. where does she come from..?

  • - volta

    + medulla

  • i think shes from the inuit nation so like umm i dont really now i only seen her once but i cant remember sorry

  • this woman is brilliantly talented. I am truly inspired.

I have done some research as an undergrad on throat singing, but this is a new level for me. I just heard her perform a 45minute set, straight out. no breaks.

    brilliant.

  • Sound like the orquestra had an exorcism of some kind.

  • This doc was a fascinating discussion of process. I'm not a throat-singing fan HOWEVER this is amazing because of the creative use of it.

  • She was great when she performed with Bjork 2004 on France TV

  • Sounded strange, when I heard it for the first time, but now I love it. And forgive me, but Tanya is so sexy!

  • that's an eufemism XD when people says some musical piece is "interesting", they are actually thinking: "****" :P

  • Disagree. By saying "It's interesting" I actually mean I don't understand it but it has something unusual. I can't say that it's beautiful or *****. :P

  • An essay or book it's interesting, their objective is "knowledge", and you need to understand knowledge. Music's objective isn't knowledge, but beauty, and you don't need to understand it. That's the reason why you need to learn philosophy in order to find "interesting" the work "Les Mots" of Sartre, but people doesn't need to study music in order to enjoy it. Remember Heine my friend: "where words leaves off... music begins".

  • Philosophy is relative as hell and it's explanations varies from author to author - generally. And they often disagree with ech other. It's simply constant development.

If you say that knowledge is interesting than tell me what "interesting" actually mean? I put it ito dictionary and guess what the result is that interesting may be related to "attractive" or "catchy" - those are emotional words where knowledge doesn't matter. :D

  • good point. But I disagree when you talk about philosophy, it worked as example, but ok, change it for science and you get a better example. When you talk about "interesting" as "catchy", of course they are emotional facts and apply for art, but I remember that you said something like "interesting = has something unusual". That's different :P

  • LOL! "eufemism" - nothing to do with feminism. It's spelt 'euphemism', coming from the ancient Greek for 'clearly/well said.

  • thanks my friend ;P, my english sucks you know? XD LOL

  • well, it's way better with 2 ppl! 1 katajjaqtik is i don't know not sooo good. but you Tanya is having fun and she's good! but 2 katajjaqtiit are wayyyyyyy better!

  • I've seen them together in Cologne, Germany - it was incredibl exciting! Thanks!!

  • wow! I love this! Tan you sound beautiful! And the Kronos Quartet, you sound beautiful too!! As far as I can tell, together its a masterpiece!!!!!!!!!

  • I love FryBread with honey on it!

  • yeah i had some once from one of our inuit friends in fort yukon... soo good!
