well i like van halen AND the kinks, and listening to the two versions, i like them both. BUT i just like the kinks one better. it my personal opinion.
Yes, the guitar solo is good. But, it's just like every other song of van halen's. There's no variety from every other song he plays, and so you may as well buy one of his songs, and get the same thing but a couple minutes long instead... Don't get me wrong, he's a really good player, just plays all the same stuff.
Yes, I'm not saying he's a bad player, but for me a good solo has to enter my mind, like if it was a sympohny, which doesn't happen with Van Halen. Led Zeppelin, Eric Clapton, Deep Purple, Dire Straits - those make good solos. But that's only my opinion.
Sick guitar solo. It's certainly not just "show off". Listen to bends and a killer vibrato. Try doing 2 and 2and1/2 step bends with vibrato. Really fast tapping that is actually a nice little classical melody blues licks, toggle switch tricks all played with immaculate tone and feel.
that band Angel tried to make their own version of this song at beat VH to the release after Eddie played their recently recorded copy to one of the guys in that band.

OK since you've started reading this its too late to stop. in 2001 a 15 year old girl was killed in a clearing in scotland. nobody knows who or what killed her but there is scratch marks all over her body and she looks horrific. she is said to roam around the world and can go 2 places at once. if you dont post this comment on 5 other videos or websites in ten minutes she will suddenly attack you and kill you in some gruesome way. this is scary coz it happened to my friend. please
