Come on the lines are delivered stilleted and in odd rushes thier is none of the nuance of modern acting which started in around the late 60s.

The blue alien girl in Avatar displays more range then this classic but dated clip.

And yet, in this future I suspect The Big Sleep will still be watched and marveled at, while few of today's movie will be viewed with the same respect.

No it wont not in the same way as this acting methods changed dramatically from the late 60s onwards method acting was all but unheard of in these days so an acting performance like Heth Ledger in TDK would have been impossible Changing voices more empasis on facial emotes and vast differences between actors styles is another thing the newer era of acting has brought us Deniro in the godfather,jack nicholson in the shining,Daniel day lewis in any movie he is in......

Your point still escapes me. Surely a movie and the acting therein must be judged in the context of it's time of production, not by the standards of a later age.

By your logic one would have to say that the Roman Legions were NOT a great army because a modern armed force could easily defeat them.

And the roman army was a great one but, as with acting, warfare has advanced to make that style of warefare look ancient and obselete.

@damieandark it always amazes me...how when i go to check on the validity of ones remarks and to see how interesting their channel is,,that almost 100% of the time....the stupiest comments,,come from people who have zero creative or interesting channels. it seems the ones who are most vacant...always want to prove themselves with nonsense comparisions or remarks. the blue girl in avatar is has a broader range than these classic actors?....even avatars director would say.....you're wacked-out.

I understand it was a golden movie period,bogie,bacall and co bring up memories of sophistication and style but in pure acting terms and comparison to actors just 30 years later they seem dated REAL modern acting that combined facial emotion,unique gesturing and styles started in the 60s and 70s with Dustin Hoffman,jack nicholson and others.

why even make it a contest? You can't hold it against Brad that tabloids write a lot about him, he's a brilliant actor. Bogart and Bacall were also brilliant actors.

I think the guy is a decent actor....I'm not sure about brillant...how many Academy Awards does he have?.But...he's sure hooked up with a strange one in Jolie...they all have their quirks...and they're all part of each generation...so be it...
