As a Christian I find Hitchens to be very intriguing. I do believe in God but sometimes religion can ruin many things (N) I feel God isnt the kind of being that would punish someone for being Gay or for having disbelief. If you are good on earth I feel you will be rewarded.
other animals have self awareness have self awareness like elephants, dolphins, octopi, to name a few. elephants know when they are dying and go to a patch of land to go die... usually to their birth place i would think. i mean they would remember cuz they have such extraordinary memory! their relatives know and accept the fact that their time is up... theres no prolonging life or anything like that! i don't get why humans don't accept the fact that life is a cycle! it's sad really!

If another life form existed in our replacement or somewhere out there with entirely different laws and requirements, wouldn't you say that they could think the exact same way? Read a little bit about the history of science and learn the reasons in arose and flourished in the Christian West. @TechFo Well I'd first recommend you to read whatever gospel/book your religion is based on again, cover to cover. And remember to apply normal logic to your book. Then you will have take then first step to apostasy. The reason people don't believe in your book is the same reason why you wouldn't take in any other religion as true. So if you say that information only deepens your "faith" then you either haven't gotten the right info, or you haven't gotten enough. Again go read you book.

There is no better place to look than at the Roman Catholic church to prove how brainwashed people are by religion. Obviously you don't see the difference between MOTIVATED BY and HAPPENS TO BE. Then you will have take then first step to apostasy. The reason people don't believe in your book is the same reason why you wouldn't take in any other religion as true. There is no better place to look than at the Roman Catholic church to prove how brainwashed people are by religion. For whatever reason, catholics seem to be able to tolerate the molestation of children by priests as a "few bad apples." The word "religion" is derived from the Greek word "religios" which means "to realize". Hitchens abuses the concept of religion and confuses it with DOGMA. Dogma that arises out of culture instead of scripture is most certainly harmful.
You can't "realize" error ... error is misunderstanding. Realization(religion) is a good thing. If you want to know about the book - read the book - resting on other persons interpretation of the book is dishonest. Abusing the word religion doesn't help you KNOW.

The problem really is the lie that if we're good we go to heaven if we're bad we go to Hell. People need to read their bibles and not believe such a common but mistaken idea promoted by a world ruled by Satan (see 1John 5:19 and Rev 12:9). The truth is that there is no torturous Hell - instead Hell really means the Common Grave. Scriptures people don't know about Acts 2:31, and Rev 20:14 shed light on this. there is a difference between religous fanatics and those who are mainstream and believe in god. Religion does provide a moral bases for a lot of causes. Look at the abolitionist in the 19th century. they were christian. Martin luther king who led the civil rights movement, he was religious, he was a pastor even. Abraham lincoln, he was religious and frequently quoted bible. his most famous speech in 1958, he took a direct quote from christ, stating a house divide against itself cant stand

So, Christopher doesn't realize that the human race is only about 6000 years old then. It's funny cause he even hinted at it being right under his nose. The reason that the "idea" of heaven didn't appear until about 5900 years ago, as he says, is perhaps because Adam and Eve weren't booted from the Eden until about 100 years after creation. straight up have u ever seen some1 get an eternal jail sentence for stealing an apple? all sins are considered equily sinful and all punished by hellfire for ETERNITY, the crime doesnt fit the punishement even if the crime was murder 10 years of hellfire would cure u from wanting to go back there and hurt peole...

no if you need somthing else to define morality in your life, then you are not a moral person, if the only reason you dont run around rapeing , and murdering is because god told you not to with threat of eternal torture, you are not a moral person. If you do not harm others for no other reason other than you dont want too, then you are a moral person.

@groovyengineer people have been defining morality for themselves since the beginning and have you not seen what has happened throughout history or even in our day? ever watch the news? is doesn't take a genius to figure out that the human heart is bent towards evil. humanity is tainted ever since they "defined what is good and evil". morality isn't subjective, my friend...no honest person live as though it is.

@lightbrownpoop Some human hearts yes, you dont take the low end stats and use it against the majority. The one bad apple in the barrel saying destroys this line of reasoning. The people you speak of ( news, history, ect) is not an argument for the state of humanity, you need only look at your own circle of friends to see that ,unless you are surrounded by deviants, they are social rejects, and have no place in the majority of people's lives they are outcasts. This has nothing to do with a god.

1. Morality and Christianity walk hand in hand but does that mean if you an atheist you aren't moral? No but the question is if your an atheist why would you be? If there's no higher power then what are you holding yourselves to? But you can't deny there are morals (example rape is wrong) but where did these morals come from?

Lets say God created gravity, and then some other people made a bridge, and then this guy having a bad day wanted to jump off to his death and he does it. do you blame God for making Gravity? or the bridge makers for making it? or the guy for jumping?
