In this song Anjan Dutta was in his re-creating best... i use the word re-creating, as I feel this son is neither an adaptation, nor a copy... but it is basically recreating the same song with strong Indian, rather, Bengali flavour.. its amazing to see that how a song, which focuses so much and banks so much on a perfectly French backdrop, simply fits into the grid of general Bengali psyche...
and that's how the references of Marlene Dietrich, Zizi Jeanmaire, Sasha Distel, when change to Madhubala and Aparna Sen, it hardly seems out of place at all... neways thanx to the uploader for this vid... :)
This song should have been called "Jao Tumi Kothay" - not "Mala" . In any case a great tribute to Peter Sarstedt ("Where do you go to my lovely") - who also had Indian roots (he was born in Delhi in 1943) and was an Anglo-Indian like Cliff Richard and Engelbert Humperdinck.
I was surprised to hear the my favorite tune on the Darjeeling Limited movie, and found out that its originally sang by Peter Sarstedt. Though I just love the bengali version and belive anjan dutta had done a great job with the lyrics.
exactly it does not seem like a copy like what anu malik does....get the same pleasure listening to this as to the original 'Where do you go to'....surely it's Anjan Da's magic
it's a beautiful song..........
