I'm very surprised that JP didn't know what a Pro Per was - it's all over the CSI episodes and I'm no lawyer or judge, but even I've heard of it! It might be Pro Se as well, and as for advising and preparing - legality I'm not going to go into, but if you go to someone as a lawyer to prepare a document, surely you ask advice at the same time. How do you know what forms to prepare otherwise?

They are Arbitrators aka Mediators. One of the reasons why at the beginning of Judge Milian; the voiceover, informs you that these litigants have agreed to not have their cases heard in Civil court proceeding. These Arbitrators pay the fees to the winning case. A Judge wouldn't do that.

I knew right from the start eventually Maggie Jones was going to bring God into play at some point. She looks like that type but alas, tis what black folk do. However, I do feel sorry that her family turned against her due to this crook. I feel bad for her. She's suffered a lot. She will be in my prayers.

i looked it up and pro per is a real legal term. Sounds like this guy helps out people who want to represent themselves in court by giving them the info and documents needed to do so. however I don't think he actually explained that to the lady. I think she really believed he was a lawyer.

@ccdj504 In pro per is often what some states call a pro se litigant, someone who represents themselves in court. Most jurisdictions would call providing documents and info to someone, despite the provider not having a law license, as unlicensed practice of law.

The lady said she couldn't get copies of the checks from her bank. Why didn't she bring her check book with the copies of the checks she wrote, and the registry where she wrote what the checks were for and the amount? I think legally that stuff doesn't carry any weight at all since it can be fabricated, but I think this judge would've taken it into consideration just a little bit.

@priscamolotsi I have to agree. There was a guy recently on the People's Court who wore a red suit and tie (he was a plaintiff), and he kept pulling a mafia routine AND he admitted to the judge he hadn't paid taxes since 1988. Red suits and ties are sketchy individuals!

That is why I love this show, you can't trick someone that smart! also....the plaintiff's nails were so long. Too long! I don't see how some women can walk around with their nails so long; I get antsy when they grow half an inch! =P

There is NO SUCH THING as documentation of any kind issued by ANYONE in the Moorish Science Temple of America authorizing ANYONE to prepare legal documents, represent litigants, etc. A sad but popular current trend nowadays is fringe groups passing themselves off as the Moorish Science Temple of America.
