  • nice cover but ye will never sound better than the mighty QUO !

  • Oh God this is pretty good. Love the bass, wicked shit :-)

  • This song reminds me of a mix of 2 songs "Scorpio Rising" by Death in Vegas & "I am the Real Thing" by Russell Morris.

  • @theselector

Did 'Scorpio Rising' not sample 'Pictures of Matchstick Men'? Cause that would explain why it reminds you of it!

  • @CheshireCatty I can totally see that too.Good spot.Both great tunes.

  • Nice to see recognition from "modern" bands though

  • Very good cover... I am impressed and I am a Quo fan and Hate covers!

Obviously not as good as the original, kind of lacking the energy of the Quo origional, but not bad at all

  • @O2N2Concepts Don't get me wrong mate I grew up with Quo and still love em, but us Quo fans disliking covers is kind of ironic considering Quo's love of covering tracks by other artists that they enjoy.

  • @Monkeymanmoog Yeah I know, but when Quo cover songs like Fun Fun Fun they just add so much energy. Then again I don't like their cover of The Wanderer.

I do try not to listen to many Quo covers so i'm not too hypocritical :)

And I did say I liked this cover

  • love the original and love this cover too! :D specially the intro first 22 seconds. Always listen to this while waiting for the bus.

  • Hhhmmmm pleasantly suprised!!!

  • A good cover, better than Ozzy Osbourne's, but not as good as the Quo.

  • @shaunatkinson6370 so true but its very nice it suprised me

  • Nice cover. I thought for a couple of years (back in the day) that this was a Camper Van Beethoven original. :p

  • this is fucking class!

  • Tom looks on this picture like the guy from a game called "Red Beard"

  • where can i download this? its not on itunes

  • the members of kasabian went to my school, countesthorpe community college

  • To be fair this was the only Quo track that I thought was cool....can clearly hear that the death in vegas track Scorpio rising track with Liam Gallagher was clearly ripped off from this track...still fuckin great though...

  • @skidmarks000 Francis Rossi co-wrote Scorpio Rising with Death In Vegas so its not really ripped off as such :) Brilliant tune aswell!

  • @skidmarks000

The end of the Aussie track "The Real Thing" is also ripped off the ending of the original Matchstick Men. The phasing seemed to be a seminal thing back in 68.

  • This song always reminds me of the "Where are they now?" sequence from This Is Spinal Tap.

  • An absolute great cover!!!

  • It had to be Kasabian to do a modern version of this song, who else?

Nice cover, do they play it in their concerts?

Now do See Emilty Play or at least Over Under Sideways Down

  • good cover.

  • Nicely done, a great tribute to a great song.

  • I like the Strange Hobby video and cover best but this is good.....

  • I <3

  • I'm an old school rocker who has run the Sunset Strip and Vegas with many a great... this is an EXCELLENT cover... I'm highly impressed!!! : )

  • Great cover!!

  • Excellent! To hear such a great modern day cover of a classic without ruining it in an effort to be different was very impressive and respectful. Great work, guys!

  • This cover blew my mind away. I never knew Kasabian covered this song! Well, that gives me another reason to like them :)

  • Awesome cover!

far better than ozzy's failed attempt

  • This is a cooool cover!

  • A carbon copy of the original, which kind of begs the question - why not just listen to the original?

  • @LukesEnglishPodcast they liked it and were being self-indulgent in doing something they loved?

  • @LukesEnglishPodcast

    do you have down syndrome?

  • I think kasabian are perfect for covering this classic track, mainly because of sergio's use of vibrato and wah throughout their career, put to really good use to capture that original psychodaelic soundscape of the song, and the articulation he added to the main riff with the fretting hand vibrato and the slides are a good innovation. a few picking and timing issues occured throughout but that doesn't really take away from a great cover for me. Plus Tom's vocals are really good for this song.

  • @madMosher023 You are dead right there, you just said what i'v been thinking since they burst onto the scene. Kasabian are the true torch bearers for the 60's psychodaelic scene. Only band that can!

  • @Saxonsoldiers cheers mate. Kasabian are doing what Oasis tried to do but rarely suceeded at (even though i do love Oasis) in the fact that they are trying to capture the magic of 60's music with a modern edge. Even though they are influenced by Oasis anyway. LSF being a prime example from their first album to prove my point which has obvious echoes of Oasis' classic track Supersonic.

  • not bad

    but quo's is best

  • Come on now people, lets not get carried away! The only sold out stadium Quo have ever played in was Live Aid (I don't think you can count that one!) As for the knobhead who mention Quo in the same sentence as the Stones get a grip! The Stones DO still sell out stadiums! What do we get from Quo? A cheap and nasty appearance on fuckin Coronation Street, what a sell out! Kasabian can use a Quo song and make it sound good, Quo do NOT have the skills or understanding play a rockin Kasabian tune! Wa

  • @MrJimmer54321 OK, then why do this cover and the original sound pretty much exactly the same, and more importantly, why would sergio and tom actually want to cover quo if they didn't like them. To me this is comparing A7X with Iron Maiden with Flash of the Blade. Both sound pretty much exactly the same except Maiden's is better slightly. Plus, I think Quo would do a mean cover of the Doberman or Thick as Thieves but we'll probably never see it.

  • kasabian who?

  • really good but not as good as the the original, you know..still great..

  • LMFAO! someone obviously thinks that kashitbian are better than quo? wtf? its like saying the darkness is better than the beatles. PMSL!!! tell u what listen to this shit and then listen to quos origional version. quo did better in 19fucking68. point proven. i bet kashitbian arent around in 50 fucking years time like these still are. anyone wanna take a £1000 bet? im serious. anyday ;) and oh yes this is a bad cover :)

  • @DigitalUnderground7 I'll take you on ya bet - unlike you, I reckon these boys will be around for a looooooong time. It's the best Pictures of Matchstick Men cover I've heard so far. :)))

  • @DigitalUnderground7 of course kasabian are gonna still be around in 50 years time they are the beatles of this generation! im not saying that this cover is better than quo's, but i guarantee that kasabian will still be listened to in 50 years just like the beatles will still be played in 50 yrs time. GREAT MUSIC WILL STAY FOREVER

  • Very nice, but... I'll always be a Camper Van Beethoven kinda girl.

  • A pretty faithful version of 'Pictures of Matchstick Men' -- groovy, even! :)

  • i honestly like status quo's version alot better i like underdog though (off topic)

  • kasabian are fuckin awesome.just cos they aint been around as long as quo dont mean u can knock their music.immense band and im old enough to remember great music from the good old days of rock and roll.led zep,t rex and all.kasabian WILL last the test of time, wait and see

  • I now like Kasabian.

  • not a bad version

  • This put a smile on my face from start to finish. It's amazing how a shit band like quo made such an awesome song, it's not amazing how an incredible band like Kasabian make it sound better. Pick up that mantle from Oasis boys, and carry it on!!!!

  • Pretty good cover and keeps true to the original. Sounds like he is singing into one of those old style mic's as well hence the old school tone. I recently heard on a US radio station Pictures of Matchstick Men played by Camper-van Beethoven - I never knew it was covered by anyone and certainly not a band from the US! interesting take on it too, slightly countrified but OK. Most removed version I have heard is Ozzy backed by Type O Negative. It is VERY different but I like it :o)

  • If you want to hear the best cover of Quo's original search for Scorpio Rising. ;)

  • of course status quo sing the better original- this song has a lot going on in it from start to finish

  • love the quo, love kasabian, both the original and the cover are amazing songs and amazing bands

  • Kasabain are excellent but the original from quo is better put together and better sung.

  • Kasabian = WANNABES! The QUO is the REAL DEAL!!

  • kasabian is the greatest british band in these years

  • i love kasabian and i love this version

  • quos is miles better

  • Very good cover but I have to give the edge to Quo and the original. Good to see these newer bands recognizing the music that changed what we listen to forever. Rock!

  • very good!

  • why kasabian never play this track live? :(

  • my opionion this best version of this song id take this over ozzy version and quo's

  • @ozzsabbath1 no..quo´s version..esp. live is brilliant

  • brilliant coverversion from a great track from STATUS QUOOOOOOOOO

  • this is actually a very good cover. Id quite like to hear what Spiritualised or even Primal Scream would sound like doing it, coz lets face it, this influenced them both.....

  • Terrific cover --full -bodied --modern equipment --just simply superb

  • Comment removed

  • this is gabbage lol

    Quo Rule!!!

  • What an appropriate band to cover this song.

  • Best cover I have heard---and a few I have had to this one over the years---original is hard to beat but this version is as good as a cover gets--expressions on the Top of the Pops version of Status Quo version --absolute pop history!

  • Not the one from "Shoot the Runner". Where then?

  • bloody good cover of status quo x

  • YES

  • I AM THE FRICKING KING OF ROCK KNOWLEDGE. And I bring you FIRE!!!!

okee dokee, this is adequate. nearly brought me back to '68. but not quite. Therefore the Kaspians failed! And THEY WILL DIE!!! But as I am a peaceful type, instead THEY WILL NEVER WIN ANOTHER BRIT AWARD!!!

Pity, as they are really rather good. Especially picking up that award WHEN COMPLETELY PISSED. ROCK AN ROLL!!!! Keep up the good work lads. NEXT!!!!

  • me no likey....

  • Quality

  • Not as good as Status Quo's, but it's nice

  • Not bad, but compared to the Quo, the vocals are far too indistinct. Even with the heavy vibrato and hammond organ in the original, the vocals are clear and really make the song in my opinion. :)

  • better than status quo's version........are you serious?

  • this one is my favorite version...The Best !!

  • kasabian and quo are my fav bands so good to see them do a cover :)

  • This tune was one of my favorites as a kid. Brilliant cover.

  • Excellent cover version!!

  • better than status quo!!!!!!

  • @diekontrolleure er no

  • no, never better than Quo, but really good version!!!!!

  • Is it?..Why? It doesn't sound that much different to me

  • CLASS ONE

  • i think you guys did great. i lived in the sixties...the spirit is there....keep it up

  • @thechrischi1981, couldn't agree more, ive heard loadsa covers of this song and quo kicks ass over them all still

  • not bad..but the QUOoriginal is better ;)

  • Best cover I've heard yet. Great job mates.

  • Its not necessarily just a rip off, maybe they just like the song?? It is a kick ass song! Best cover of it ive heard. Nothing comes close to the original tho!!

  • Comment removed

  • Ummmmm Camper Van also took the song from the original by Status Quo ..... you're a nitwit!

  • Comment removed

  • Is this on an album? Great Cover!!

  • @normalAlyankovich kasabian are outstanding

  • Good version of the Quo tune, and true to the original

  • @mysteronik yeah! I hate it when bands do covers and completely change the songs

  • Why listen to this when you could be hearing Camper van Beethovens version which is rippin'.

  • Who wrote the original?

  • Status Quo

  • Thanks : )

  • @ShizzeliFizzle ..... i originally own my name ... others have copied .... ahem, uh, yeah!

  • the name of the video kinda hints that lol

  • status quo.

  • @Hatguy23 status quo... u gotta listen that one...

  • i do like the original better, but this is a great cover

  • Absolutely amazin! Love this song, love kasabian, can't ask for anymore!

  • The originals are always the best, but they have done an excellent cover of the Quo classic, and they managed to stay faithful to it and make it there own sound at the same time, brilliant. Sure the Quo were more than happy with this version!!

  • BAMBOOLOUNGE and patnamuzikman you are so out of touch and not in the know.

I bet you only know Quo for RAOTW. Take a look at 4500 Times live at the n.e.c then come back when Kasabian are men of rock and not boys. Also do you actually know Quo and 3 chords is the biggest musical myth theres ever been. How have Quo lived off the same riff? You ain't got a clue dudes.

  • Extremely well said!! Thankyou for putting an idiot with a stupid screen name in there place :o)

  • and jimbo is a cool name? in prison maybe.

  • The Quos original version will always be the best. However, Kasabian are a fave of mine too....to be magnanimous...ho ho.

  • when i first saw this i thought wot the hell are kasabian doin covering QUO but i think they give it there own touch and make it ther own never been in2 Quo but this is a real oldie and best song they eva did just my opinion

  • i agree

  • great...but I expected something more personal; sounds too much like the original I think.. best band in the world though

  • brilliant!!

  • this version is good but i prefer the original.

  • This is amazing ! Love it ! !

  • The only good tune quo did and the best band in the world cover it and rock....

  • You can't of heard much Quo apart from the singles.

Look on UTuBE for early Quo or better still see em live. They Rock.........

  • Errr......not! Your opinion on the best band in the world is yours to have. Your opinion about this being Quo's only good song is a crock of shit.

  • come on now, you may be a fan of tight jeans and white t-shirts but you should understand that they have lived off the same riff for 30 years....

  • The same riff eh?..including the very one your favourite band choose to cover? Hmmm :)

Come back in 10 years , let alone 30 and we'll have a look at their respective "records"

    No contest I'm sure.

  • I'd have to disagree, I'm sure Oasis were shitting themselves from Kasabian before they split, they have went from strength to strength in the past few years and unlike Quo, consistently SELL OUT their shows.

  • Your argument is pathetic if you're suggesting that Kasabian are a bigger and better band than Quo because they consistentky sel lout shows. So do Quo, and have been doing so for over 30 years. Come back with this argument in 2029 ;-)

  • Also just to add to that Quo perform lots more shows than most. 10,000 - 13,000 capacity arenas with that.

  • @Syze1 come back when you can spell, old fucker!

  • @coltsuperocean10

Come back when you've stopped shagging your sister you fuckin' inbred cunt. Next!

  • @Syze1 shagging my sister? How fucking pathtic are you? Its your sister im fucking!! hahahaha you old fart!!

  • @coltsuperocean10

Is this from the little scrote who picks up on someone's spelling? What's pathetic is he doesn't know the difference between a spelling mistake and a typo but is excellent at demonstrating his prowess at grammar and punctuation. I'd stop now if I were you wee boy and get back to school.

  • @Syze1 Sorry? Do I make you look retarded? I dont even know why we are fuckin arguing? Its not like I slagged Quo off or anything!! What is you fuckin point in all this?

  • @coltsuperocean10

No fella you don't make me look retarded but you make yourself look retarded. What is my point in all this? Take a step back and ask yourself who messaged who here 1st. The answer is YOU DID with your silly comment about my "spelling" which was in fact a typo. You know it's better to make sure you're 100% correct in grammar and punctuation yourself before handing out the unwanted lectures.

Now, do humanity a favour by holding your breath for 15 mins ok? Dickhead.

  • @Syze1 Fuckin hell, how uptight and retarded can you get about spelling errors? hahahaha. You must lead an exciting life!! Mind you, you listen to Status Quo, that says a lot about you!! Sad, retarded, old, miserable, bastard, that hates being told so!! hahahaha you old pathetic piss stained tramp, maybe you should fuck off, have a wash and cut your dirty skanky hair!! Fuckin old twat!! Do hygiene a favour and jump in a bath of fuckin hot soapy water ya cunt!! ..and stay under!!

  • @coltsuperocean10

Merely pointing out your inadequecias of which there are many little 'un. Calm down...there's many years of life left in you yet..as long as you stay hiding behind the keyboard that is.

  • @Syze1 thanks for that you old man!! hahahaha Ive been told off by my Dad!!

  • @coltsuperocean10, serves you right - now go to bed without any supper.

  • @coltsuperocean10 Im only 15. never bin in love and never loved robin hood. Help hes helding me hostage

  • @Syze1 yea this tune was only respectable thing the "quo" ever did. The rest was cheesy shite that tards listen too so kasabian fuk them over

  • @MrTrevormctrevor

Even TURDS like you are entitled to an opinion.

  • @MrTrevormctrevor Yeah but QUO records will still be played in 10 years time when kasabian are dead and buried!!!!!!

  • @Syze1 those consistant sell out shows you speak of, are stadiums. status quo dont sell out stadiums.

  • @supernova480

Not sure of your point. Quo do indeed still sell out stadiums but they mainly do concert hall tours anyway. I don't like Kasabian but I like Quo. If Kasabian are still rockin' after 40 years I'll have some respect for 'em.

  • @Syze1 Sense in these words.

  • What are you on about "same riff"? You obviously only know Quo for Rocking all over the world and the WRONG media perception of them. Go and see them live or buy there next album and you will see/hear what a great band Status Quo are. Kasabian are a good band, but why knock Quo? Quo's Live album from 1976 was voted 11th best live album of all time by planet rock. I'm 24 and the last time I looked in a pub or bar I could see nearly every bloke in jeans, t-shirt and white pumps.
