What annoys me is that I used to love Stewart Lee. He's got fantastic comic timing and is a genuinely hilarious guy. However in the past 10 years he's just got more and more pompous. What annoys me more are the Stewart Lee fans that ironically follow him because he's cool to like, not because they understand or even like his jokes.
@ScaryCornflakes What a horribly boring list of everyone who happens to be popular right now. Do you even know any comedians you didn't see on panel shows?
@RealityCheck6T9 The thing is, does it really matter how popular they are or how I know of them? A comedian exists to make you laugh, they make me laugh, therefore they are comedians. Stewart Lee, on the other hand, comes across as an arrogant prat who really isn't that good at all. He just seems to pick targets and abuses them to gain fame.
@ScaryCornflakes Sorry mate, I just can't take a lecture on comedy from a Frankie Boyle fan. There's a video on here of him shitting all over Michael McIntyre, and unlike Stewart Lee he doesn't even have a point to make, it's just pure spite
@ScaryCornflakes Wow, thats incredible... apart from David Mitchell, you've managed to reel off a list of some of the least talented comedians in Britain!
Actually, this is the first time Stewart Lee has made me laugh! Not trashing the guy at all, just that I've generally found him witty rather than funny. Thanks, Stewart for the finally getting me!
As much as i do find Stewart Lee funny I absolutely detest the sort of holier-than-thou attitudes that follow him around and some comedians. Some of the pompous, self absorbed arseholes that go to his shows are unbearable. "Oh yes your taste in comedy is so below me" fuck off.
This guy stinks the place out. If I'd been Joe Pasquali, I would've advised Mr Lee to wash the sand out of his vagina, and tone down the affronted intellectual shit. Or just fucked him up with a cosh.
@Owdbum289 Joe Pasquale is a successful, wealthy comedian who is absolutely piss poor and has made a name for himself by pandering to the masses in the style a childrens t.v. performer. I don't hate Joe Pasquale but the fact that, that's how you have to be to be a successful comedian. It's a joke about how bland and meaningless comedy is.
@perilouspower so is Joe Pasquali rich or poor? Whatever, Lee is not a comedian, I love the way his fans assume that if you think he isn't funny, it's because you don't get his deconstructed comedy stylings...shite, he's just an unfunny cnut.
To suggest Michael McIntyre even comes close to anything Stewart Lee does, is a complete travesty. Michael McIntyre is a god awful, bland, unimaginative act that does nothing more than point out the most obvious things in society, but say them with a funny voice and a flail of his arms.
Stewart Lee is completely beyond that mainstream rubbish. He clearly puts lots of thought into his act and it has many different levels.
a similar quip is used in Blue Jam which was written by Chris Morris & Graham Linehan, which goes "life continued in the usual blur of frowns, doctors, laying-down, and people saying get the fuck out of my garden! ". Stewart Lee and Michael Redmond more then likely know this, seeing as they have both worked with Linehan and Morris. not just the line, but the whole monologue was clearly influenced by Redmond. whereas i can't say the same about Joe Pasquale. he just nicked a joke, shame on him!
I find nothing at all intellectual about Stewart Lee's comedy. His act is all about delivery and comic authority. Same as Jack Dee, if you got a 12 year old girl to repeat his material, few would laugh. The suit, the shirt, and the depth of voice are doing the work. I don't actively 'dislike' him per se, ideologically he's pretty cool, but if he's supposed to be a 'smart comic', I can only assume he must be a stupid person's smart comic.
@tomsega you're right with this joke. But his others, they are based on irony. For example the 'Ang Lee' and the 'rap singers' jokes. .. and not just 1 layer of irony! there is a double ironic layer sometimes; Stuart Lee telling Ang Lee he is a fu@king taiwanese idiot for example.. as it was a response to the stupidity of Ang Lee and also a reaction to accusation of racism by Ang Lee. Although it becomes aparent that Ang Lee is infact an idiot that happens to be from Taiwan. Very clever isnt?
@tomsega every act for anything depends on delivery. you can take the best script in the world and turn it to shit with poor delivery. You can't rely on writing alone.
@tomsega But his delivery is not coincidental is it? The delivery itself is perfect for the jokes he is telling, therefore there is a weight of intellect behind his delivery, yes?
@jmckendry84 I'd say that you're worse then any of them, because you're so smug that you needed that opinion to be liked just to prove that arent like his 'typical' fans. Which you are
Stewart sent an emal today saying he would be playing glasgow in febuary !
Sadly a few hours later it has sold out
Sadly many of the people that have bought the tickets have now realised they cant go and have had to offer the tickets for sale for more than twice what they paid for them
Say I went to see Billy Connolly and started doing his act at clubs there's nothing wrong with that? Telling his stories, doing his routines? Getting money for it?
I understand altering jokes and retelling them or using them without realizing which is incredibly common. Willingly doing so, if it isn't a crime, should at least lead to ridicule or an apology. Learn a George Michael song, record and sell it then try saying intellectual property doesn't exist. In court. With his cock in your mouth.
this guy just isnt funny .... not naturally funny at all ... his voice is dull ... his body language is dull ... his mind is dull .... people are so easily pleased by mediocrity these days
boygenius, please share with us some of your genius - would love to know who you think is naturally funnier, who excels in bodylanguage, who has a better mind for comedy than ''this guy''
@boygeniuz And without Dudley Moore there'd be no Jerry Sadowitz. What's your point? People are alike and there's only so much to draw from and only so many ways to reconstruct it into original material.
If someone was 100% original you'd probably find them hard to listen to or to find funny because how can you relate to someone who would have to have NO common traits? I used to obsess over originallity, it's more of an obstacle than anything. People don't or can't appreciate it in it's time.
i agree with you ... but this guy is just like someone fromthe audience having a go .. you only had to look at peter cook and dudley moore and would would start to smile ,, naturally funny ,, not just saying "clever lines" ... he might have an intelligent observational mind but he should let someone else say it
You do realise that he knows exactly what he's doing don't you? Clearly not.
I went to see him live and he did a five minute bit reading the funniest criticisms of him on Youtube - all of which claimed that he is boring, dull, speaks in a boring voice and doesn't do any jokes which is a bit like complaing about Lenny Bruce for deconstructing society and dirty words in a jazz-influenced jewish accent. It's deliberate you idiot. And he is funny, you just don't find him funny.
dear djzoneboro, are you joe pasquale? is that why you don't find this funny? I bet you're one of them that thinks peter kay is hilarious dressed as a woman aren't you? :(
I just knew the joke would start with "Jou Pasquale walks into a bar". Guess Stewart stole my joke then, didn't he? ;) There's no such thing as intellectual property :)
Your comment is painful to read because it's the meta-literary equivalent of someone saying a joke, everybody in the room laughing and you there saying "ooooof...that joke went down like a lead balloon" in the midst of the laughter. What comedians do you like then?
The sentences "He is not funny" and "I don't find him funny" are completely different.
One is stating an objective fact that is true for everyone and the other is a subjective opinion.
I would have no problem in you saying that you personally don't find him funny, fair enough, you don't dig him. But you cannot say he or the routine is very unfunny because it is very funny to someone, it's just you don't find it very funny.

Joe Pasquale once stole not just a joke off Frank Skinner but a whole story, which was actually a true story which happened to Frank Skinner and his friend. So he's not just stealing jokes he's stealing peoples childhood memories lol
The joke is a pretty basic version of the paraprosdokian, too simple and generic to warrant any serious claim to authorial credit, unlike, say, an invention of Steven Wright, Emo Philips or Hedberg's. I think it's more credible to object to cases of plagiarism where the material was more esoteric or particular: Denis Leary, Dane Cook, Carlos Mencia, etc.
Stewart Lee is a very unique comedian. He's one of that rare breed of comics that genuinely aren't funny and yet manages to make a living. Every time I watch his performance it seems forced like an attempt to be the Lenny Bruce of his generation. But Lenny Bruce was ground breaking. Lee is just - well he's like Liam Gallagher trying to be the Beatles. Disappointing. Get out of my garden Stewart! I like to end on a hysterical note, well one you'll find amusing at least.
@anothercrusader So who would you say is a funny comedian? Stewart Lee is deeply respected by his peers, his comedy is a very aquired taste, like marmite!
@chalkus Do Stewart Lee's peers ever fill the house. I presume he wants to make money out of his talent. Just what his peers think is irrelevant. Does his brand of humour fill auditoriums or club rooms. There's alternative and alternative. You asked me who I think is funny, I presume to make a judgement. Well the answer is, far too many to write here, from Jack Benny and Emo Philips to Eric Sykes and Eddie Izzard and a vast amount in between. Just not the cruel cheap comedians.
@anothercrusader Unfortunately, you seem to misunderstand Lee... he is not cruel or cheap. How many clips have you seen?! Perhaps you need to watch a show.
I'll give it to you on Eric Sykes, Eddie Izzard (although he's gone off the boil), Emo Philips (not so much) but I feel you are unaware of Lee's successes in writing, directing, etc. Who else do you cite as a good comedian aside of these?
@chalkus I'm not supposed to cut him a break or understand him and find him funny on that basis. What, you want me to feel sorry for him? I've seen plenty of his work, its not as though he hasn't been around for years. It's up to him to make me laugh, not my job to laugh at him out of sympathy. What are you, his uncle or something? I just don't like comics who bully. That's not humour except to a certain type. Last time, I just don't find him funny!!!!
@anothercrusader He is not bullying although I like the irony in the temperature of your post! Its funny how you have tried to twist onto the sympathy rhetoric. Interesting.
It is up to him to make you laugh but it is up to you to not misrepresent him; you are doing so in suggesting he is a bully. Real shame cos you seem like an intelligent enough chap.
@chalkus You don't think he's a bully? So for example, you wouldn't call his recent attack on comic Michael McIntyre bullying. It is the classic bully set up based on envy and wanting the adulation he has but unable to achieve it and therefore ridiculing him in the media to hurt him. Sorry old chap but that's a bully. By the way I like the irony in the temperature of YOUR post (Jeeze!). I just realised that you have pretensions way above your ability. Rock on Mr pseudo intellectual.
@anothercrusader what is it with stewart lee haters and their intellectual insecurity.... very sad. He is not a bully, if you actually watch that whole show, you'll see why.... stop taking the daily mail's rhetoric and arguing as it make you look like a total numpty.
He didn't attack McIntyre, check out the show and you will understand the joke when it has context. Sorry kid, he's not a bully.
Its also ironic that you, whilst bemoaning bullies, resort to name calling... very funny!
@chalkus I don't read the Daily Mail. Are you that shallow you read that crap? You make assumptions way beyond you abilities. You should get some rest now before you implode. I'm a bully? That's a good one. I put up a reasonable argument and I'm a bully? Take a long hard look in the mirror lad. You may not like what you see but sadly, you're stuck with it. Name calling indeed! How purile. And this is the very last you will hear from me on this comedian. I DON"T LIKE HIM. Sorry!
@anothercrusader You follow the same assumptions as the daily mail, taking jokes out of context like the daily mail and so on. Have a look at what you have written, YOU resorted to name calling, hence my accusation that you are a bully. Listen kid, you have exposed yourself no only as a hypocrite but a jealous bully. You don't understand this guy and it makes you angry, when you try to justify yourself, you miss the mark. A silly young man indeed
He didn't really ever want to do it for money, but now he's got a family to look after he has stated that he's had to buckle down and make some money.
There's plenty of interviews...
"Just not the cruel cheap comedians"
Pretty suggestive that you haven't really seen or heard much of his stuff, from On The Hour, TMWRNJ and FoF, none of it has ever been cruel and especially not cheap. Quite the opposite!
@seansalvador1 Oh but I have seen seen quite a lot of him, or if not as much as you, well a little goes a long way and seems like a lot. I'm just not camping outside his trailer and worshiping at his alter the way some people do. Sorry I can't like every comedian I see and I .... well I don't like Lee. It amazes me how insecure his fans are. You and that other apostle seem determined to get me to say I like his act. I don't! He doesn't remotely turn me on. There, end of story. Let's all move on.
@anothercrusader "I'm just not camping outside his trailer and worshiping [sic] at his alter the way some people do"
This is a very strange recent trend on internet message boards, that whenever anyone defends anything at all they are immediately labelled a fanatic and this is used as a reson to completely ignore what it is they have said. Label them fanatic and then have done with it... as though that's good enough!
"You and that other apostle seem determined to get me to say I like his act"
...!?
Apostle? Why on Earth would i want you to like him? All i did was point out that you wrongly accused him of cruelty and cheapness, which is pretty absurd, it's like calling John Cleese short.
@seansalvador1 (SIGH!) Rearrange these words into a well known phrase or saying - life get a. I'm done with this now thanks. I have reached my boredom threshold. Actually I reached it a long time ago, as I did my appreciation of Mr Lee.
@anothercrusader "It amazes me how insecure his fans are." hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha, thats the funniest thing I've ever read. The accusation of insecurity coming from the least confident person on here!
You resort to bottom-line name calling with everyone and call it a 'reasonable argument'. You have not done so, to debate, you have to receive somebody else's point, all we're trying to point out to you is that, taken in context, Stewart Lee is not a bully.
@chalkus Ok you're right and I'm wrong blah blah blah, whatever. Stuart Lee is not a bully he's the most altruistic and kind man on the planet. Anyway I'm done with you too. You and seansalvador1 are both utterly dull and one dimensional! There! There's a bit of "Name calling" for you. By all means send it back if it floats your boat!
@anothercrusader Its ok, you've been demonstrating your hypocrisy for a few posts now.... a bully calling a patron of an anti-bullying charity a bully!!! Haha, I'm going to resort to name calling now, you made yourself look like a right dick
@chalkus Well well well just check out the ironies in your post. Sooner or later you had to bite, you couldn't resist it could you Mr Sanctimonious. Oops there I go again, name calling. Good luck with the rest of your life. Cheerio.
@anothercrusader Don't make it look like you knew what you were doing, you are no where near bright enough for that kid. You've been resorting to name calling for a while, taking the bait at every opportunity, like you will again now!
@Deanocfc popularity does not equate to talent. McIntyre happens to be the most popular/biggest selling comedian around at the moment but so was Bernard Manning at one point! That is only a reflection of a good marketing team.
I find McIntyre's comedy too easy, too safe and whilst he is witty, there are many that are quicker than him
@Deanocfc If you had cited good comedians however, one might be able to enter a debate on comedy ability. Also, I notice you are a football fan........
Yeah, Lee is my favourite comedian, but I hate comedy snobs who think it always has to be high brow to be of worth. I actually love Michael Mcintyres predictable observational comedy because he's very good at it.
One of those flimsy transparent plastic bags you get at service stations filled with cold gruel with a crude drawing of a face on the front of it has let himself go.
Hey people, just because you like stewart lee doesn't mean you have to hate all other comedians. Lee Mack is not thick as someone said, he is pretty quick witted and his ability to come up with a lightning fast pun etc is a talent I'm sure Stew would be glad to possess. Stew works comedy from a different angle, and can be quite cerebral. His popularity ebbs and flows and is on a high right now, and like anything his style will be aped and become tired for a while, it's the way of the world.
@mickstephenson, I entirely agree. The two comedians are totally different in style and content. I am a huge fan of Stewart Lee, and have been since the mid '90s and Fist of Fun. I'm also a fan of Lee Mack's standup shows. Having a broad sense of humour, I find I like many comedians, in much the same way as I enjoy music, movies and novels from different genres.
Stewart Lee is a clever comedian but I don't know who could laugh out loud to many of his jokes as it's all quite moany and political. I like to watch him for a bit but Billy Connolly, Mcintyre, Kevin Bridges are so much more 'funny'.
@Deanocfc Seen as they both have the same material, I can understand that you'd find them funny. You're not thick for liking McIntyre, you just don't like being challenged and it is just entertainment that you are looking for. McIntyre is the worst out of the two, bad observations, week material, poor stage presence, slow wit, poor at handling hecklers and a terrible interviewee on Desert Island Discs.
If you like warm diarrhea though, that is up to you...
Haha McIntyre is only one of (if not the) top comedians around right now. I find what Mcintyre actually talks about is obvious, but the way he presents it all is very funny. It's warm diarrhea if you want to look down on lighter entertainment and be all snobby.
"I don't like to be challenged" is quite a insult as you don't know anything about me. I think you should come down from your flimsy pedestal.
@Deanocfc McIntyre is not challenging and the other comedians you cited aren't either. I like Lee, I like Teeuwen and I also like observational stuff but I think McIntyre is poor... an example that having a stong promotion team behind you will get you anywhere. McIntyre is not respected by his peers as Lee is.
Good obervational comedians, in my opinion, include Greg Davies, Terry Alderton (although he can be quite abstract), Colin Hoult, Late Night Gimp Fight, Russell Kane, plus many others.
I think that the dislike of McIntyre does revolve a lot around jealousy. His rise has been phenomenal and there is no doubt that he makes thousands, even millions, laugh so he can't be all bad. I like many other comedians of all different styles but if McIntyre makes me laugh, then I don't think I need to feel guilty.
@Deanocfc Its easy for one to draw that conclusion but that negates the motive for one's art. McIntyre has got a fantastic promotion team behind him.... he is a product and any product can be successful with the right back-up.
Its fine that you laugh at McIntyre, thats up to you, however, one day, you'll wonder why. have you even seen a whole stewart lee show? given Hans Teeuwen a go? Greg Davies? Alderton? These people demonstrate how McIntyre uses quite basic material.
I think it's plain to see that he uses very basic material, but McIntyre's shows are great to watch for many people including myself. I like to watch other types of comedians that give you more to think about as well, I've watched quite a lot of Stewart Lee, I'm not a fan of Greg Davies that much, I haven't heard of Teeuwen or Alderton (sorry). I know why I find McIntyre funny, not so much WHAT he talks about but just his overall presentation, physical movement, etc. He is light.
@Deanocfc For me, I concentrate on what is being said and how its being delivered. McIntyre's material is too simplistic - Jack Dee for example, an observational comedian, is infinitely better all round. Davies' last show is pretty good, I was pleasantly surprised. Hans Teeuwen is abstract satire and Alderton is abstract observational, both very good in their own right. I'd definitely watch a whole show rather than clips, I feel clips don't get the whole point across.
I love Stewart Lee's comedy ... but I get uneasy at those of his fans who pat themselves on the back because of their supposed intellectual superiority: it makes me look bad. I just think he's funny, that's all, but if you don't fair enough; we'll never get each other to change our minds.
So did Stewart Lee like Michael Redmond's joke so much he needed it for his own set? So he waited and waited until someone "borrowed it" so he could then borrow it himself, then under the guise of satire, have to write this clever and funny routine on material theft as a cover for his own misdemeanor. 20 years is a long wait? Patience wins the day :)
There is a Clever subplot to that Routine. Years ago Stewart Lee Claimed that Comedian and actor "Patrick Marber" had stole a character of Stewarts Which The Ideas was thought up by Lee and Herring. For the Radio 4 show . " on the hour"
Marber was seen to do this character on the TV show " the day today"
I spend too much of my time looking through the comments on Stewart Lee's material to find people who completely hate him....... not a waste though: I find it completely life affirming.
@SuperTruth77 It was up minutes after it was on TV. It's not listed in the search results anymore, for some strange reason. The old link still works though.
that was brilliant! off to see him next week :)

In court. With his cock in your mouth.

try Jerry Sadowitz ... there are many people like Stewart Lee ... nothing original whatsoever .. nothing
boygeniuz 4 months ago
@boygeniuz And without Dudley Moore there'd be no Jerry Sadowitz. What's your point? People are alike and there's only so much to draw from and only so many ways to reconstruct it into original material.
If someone was 100% original you'd probably find them hard to listen to or to find funny because how can you relate to someone who would have to have NO common traits? I used to obsess over originallity, it's more of an obstacle than anything. People don't or can't appreciate it in it's time.

I like to end on a hysterical note, well one you'll find amusing at least.
anothercrusader 6 months ago
@anothercrusader So who would you say is a funny comedian? Stewart Lee is deeply respected by his peers, his comedy is a very aquired taste, like marmite!
chalkus 6 months ago
@chalkus Do Stewart Lee's peers ever fill the house. I presume he wants to make money out of his talent. Just what his peers think is irrelevant. Does his brand of humour fill auditoriums or club rooms. There's alternative and alternative. You asked me who I think is funny, I presume to make a judgement. Well the answer is, far too many to write here, from Jack Benny and Emo Philips to Eric Sykes and Eddie Izzard and a vast amount in between. Just not the cruel cheap comedians.
anothercrusader 5 months ago
@anothercrusader Unfortunately, you seem to misunderstand Lee... he is not cruel or cheap. How many clips have you seen?! Perhaps you need to watch a show.
I'll give it to you on Eric Sykes, Eddie Izzard (although he's gone off the boil), Emo Philips (not so much) but I feel you are unaware of Lee's successes in writing, directing, etc. Who else do you cite as a good comedian aside of these?
chalkus 5 months ago
@chalkus I'm not supposed to cut him a break or understand him and find him funny on that basis. What, you want me to feel sorry for him? I've seen plenty of his work, its not as though he hasn't been around for years. It's up to him to make me laugh, not my job to laugh at him out of sympathy. What are you, his uncle or something? I just don't like comics who bully. That's not humour except to a certain type. Last time, I just don't find him funny!!!!
anothercrusader 5 months ago
@anothercrusader He is not bullying although I like the irony in the temperature of your post! Its funny how you have tried to twist onto the sympathy rhetoric. Interesting.
It is up to him to make you laugh but it is up to you to not misrepresent him; you are doing so in suggesting he is a bully. Real shame cos you seem like an intelligent enough chap.
chalkus 5 months ago
@chalkus You don't think he's a bully? So for example, you wouldn't call his recent attack on comic Michael McIntyre bullying. It is the classic bully set up based on envy and wanting the adulation he has but unable to achieve it and therefore ridiculing him in the media to hurt him. Sorry old chap but that's a bully. By the way I like the irony in the temperature of YOUR post (Jeeze!). I just realised that you have pretensions way above your ability. Rock on Mr pseudo intellectual.
anothercrusader 5 months ago
@anothercrusader what is it with stewart lee haters and their intellectual insecurity.... very sad. He is not a bully, if you actually watch that whole show, you'll see why.... stop taking the daily mail's rhetoric and arguing as it make you look like a total numpty.
He didn't attack McIntyre, check out the show and you will understand the joke when it has context. Sorry kid, he's not a bully.
Its also ironic that you, whilst bemoaning bullies, resort to name calling... very funny!
chalkus 5 months ago
@chalkus I don't read the Daily Mail. Are you that shallow you read that crap? You make assumptions way beyond you abilities. You should get some rest now before you implode. I'm a bully? That's a good one. I put up a reasonable argument and I'm a bully? Take a long hard look in the mirror lad. You may not like what you see but sadly, you're stuck with it. Name calling indeed! How purile. And this is the very last you will hear from me on this comedian. I DON"T LIKE HIM. Sorry!
anothercrusader 5 months ago
@anothercrusader You follow the same assumptions as the daily mail, taking jokes out of context like the daily mail and so on. Have a look at what you have written, YOU resorted to name calling, hence my accusation that you are a bully. Listen kid, you have exposed yourself no only as a hypocrite but a jealous bully. You don't understand this guy and it makes you angry, when you try to justify yourself, you miss the mark. A silly young man indeed

@anothercrusader "I'm just not camping outside his trailer and worshiping [sic] at his alter the way some people do"

His popularity ebbs and flows and is on a high right now, and like anything his style will be aped and become tired for a while, it's the way of the world.
mickstephenson 6 months ago 4
@mickstephenson, I entirely agree. The two comedians are totally different in style and content. I am a huge fan of Stewart Lee, and have been since the mid '90s and Fist of Fun. I'm also a fan of Lee Mack's standup shows. Having a broad sense of humour, I find I like many comedians, in much the same way as I enjoy music, movies and novels from different genres.
gadge1976 6 months ago
Stewart Lee is a clever comedian but I don't know who could laugh out loud to many of his jokes as it's all quite moany and political. I like to watch him for a bit but Billy Connolly, Mcintyre, Kevin Bridges are so much more 'funny'.
Deanocfc 6 months ago
@Deanocfc McIntyre? Bridges? what planet are you on
chalkus 6 months ago
@chalkus
Earth, and I find these two comedians funny. A lot more funny than than this guy. Or am I thick for liking Mcintyre?
Deanocfc 6 months ago
@Deanocfc Seen as they both have the same material, I can understand that you'd find them funny. You're not thick for liking McIntyre, you just don't like being challenged and it is just entertainment that you are looking for. McIntyre is the worst out of the two, bad observations, week material, poor stage presence, slow wit, poor at handling hecklers and a terrible interviewee on Desert Island Discs.
If you like warm diarrhea though, that is up to you...
chalkus 6 months ago
@chalkus
Deanocfc 6 months ago
@Deanocfc McIntyre is not challenging and the other comedians you cited aren't either. I like Lee, I like Teeuwen and I also like observational stuff but I think McIntyre is poor... an example that having a stong promotion team behind you will get you anywhere. McIntyre is not respected by his peers as Lee is.
Good obervational comedians, in my opinion, include Greg Davies, Terry Alderton (although he can be quite abstract), Colin Hoult, Late Night Gimp Fight, Russell Kane, plus many others.
chalkus 6 months ago
@chalkus
Deanocfc 6 months ago
@Deanocfc Its easy for one to draw that conclusion but that negates the motive for one's art. McIntyre has got a fantastic promotion team behind him.... he is a product and any product can be successful with the right back-up.
Its fine that you laugh at McIntyre, thats up to you, however, one day, you'll wonder why. have you even seen a whole stewart lee show? given Hans Teeuwen a go? Greg Davies? Alderton? These people demonstrate how McIntyre uses quite basic material.
chalkus 6 months ago
@chalkus
Deanocfc 6 months ago
@Deanocfc For me, I concentrate on what is being said and how its being delivered. McIntyre's material is too simplistic - Jack Dee for example, an observational comedian, is infinitely better all round. Davies' last show is pretty good, I was pleasantly surprised. Hans Teeuwen is abstract satire and Alderton is abstract observational, both very good in their own right. I'd definitely watch a whole show rather than clips, I feel clips don't get the whole point across.
