Wow! Coolest guitar is the last one! I LOVE Airlines! He had a twin tone sitting in the back ground when he was playing all the electrics in the loft!
no way dude, I'm 21 and I started playing only about 2 years ago, if you have a passion for it just go for it, to many people get put down by their age. Sure there'll be people better than you that are half your age (same thing for me) but it's not a competition, it's about achieving your own musical identity. Just enjoy it!
Fantastic. Bottom line: Jeff could pick up any guitar and make something special happen. But, better yet, he can take a special guitar and make something exquisite happen. I always want to give away my shit after watching him. The "Wired" Strat has always been one of my favorites. As far as Seymour Duncan is concerned...He should give the Tele back. Period. I have sold back several sentimental guitars to friends at the original price. Difficult, but good karma...I hope! C'mon, Seymour!
Seymour Duncan screwed over Jeff Beck, eh? Wow, what an ass. Considering what that guitar was used on and how much it still means to Jeff Beck, he should have the decency to return it to him.
Yeah, but that "L-5" sure looks like an ES-175. The inlays, the neck pickup location, the switch location and the lack of the flowerpot headstock inlay all say ES-175.
@okamasphere The word trick is a slang for modified. It's a hot rod term usually used to describe a car that has been modified. Jeff is also really into hot rods. "That car is really trick, or tricked out" So when Jeff said "it doesnt have a trick bridge on it", he means it doesnt have a modified bridge. Other words its stock.
@bashfulbrother They play differently and have 24 3/4" scale length, Fender have thinner classical guitar fret wire and 25 1/2" scale length with a different neck shape. If you are used to Fender its very odd playing a Gibson as the control aren't where you want them. Plus, this was back in the late 60s, Eddie was still 10 years away.
@3Deity Very intelligent and succinct answer. Thank you. I, of course, would never try to second guess his decisions. The man is one of a few handful of geniuses that are taking music to it's next level. Fantastic mastery of the neck.
The seymour duncan story doesn't surprise me. I had dealings (or rather tried to have dealings) with him in the mid-nineties during my r&r on a product. Didn't seem like a nice person. After a disappointing experience with him, I've never used his pickups. As good and better ones all over the place.
Not Cruelty Free For Guitar Players. Jeff You need to divest yourself of a few guitars and I have space. Whatever you happen to be tired of - I will handle shipping - and it would resolve some of the existential quilt for getting so many gifts yourself. Turn around the karma.
that room looks too small for the big sound that JB would put out. Airplane hanger is what I envisage as the room required for him to really stretch out.
Seymour should give you back the original one just be be a good mate. Come on Seymour you have made plenty of money over the years so give the mans guitar back.
@beabbong Hi, I believe that Jeff played the solo on the Mark Knopfler song (performed by Tina Turner) 'Private Dancer' using the pink guitar .I believe it is a Jackson.I think that he also used the orange (Charvel /Jackson?) guitar on the 'Flash' album. Not sure if there is any live footage though.
@TheHumbuckerboy He used the orange Jackson Soloist in the Ambitious video, and I saw him on the cover and inside of a 1984 or 1985 Guitar World magazine. Later when they asked him if he was still using The Jackson ( I don't think they knew he had 2 ) he said it didn't last , the neck was too thin. He used one of them on the 1st song on the Jeff Beck Guitar Shop album from later in the 1990's or so on the fadeout of the first song on the album.
@metalfiend124 The song was Guitar Shop. Inside of the guitar world magazine was an article that said, Jeff Beck still the world's guitarist and most of the pictures were with the Pink Jackson. I still have the magazine, and it made me want to get a Soloist SL1 too. Plus Eddie Van Halen had some guitars from Charvel and Randy Rhoads had the white Rhoads prototype guitar. He later ordered 3 more RR1's after they altered the shape of the white on into the RR1 available now.
@Phodie56 Sure he might be old but, he was playing professionally before he was 21, was #5 on Rolling Stone's top 100 guitarists, and has been winning Grammy's all the way up to 2010.
@Jackle61 I know! It's crazy, right?! All of those early bands that were pioneering the business...I dunno how they did it. Glad as heck they did though :)
Good interview, but all I could think about the entire time was that Jeff was going to walk over to a Marshall stack and point out that they all go to 11.
If you're a young player, don't be discouraged by Jeff's comment about the Peter Gunn riff--don't give up after five minutes. He's a guitar genius afterall.
I once read a guitar player interview with him where he said he stops practicing if he annoys himself within the first ten minutes--very high standards.
JB's being a little disingenuous here. He gave Seymour Duncan the pick of five guitars in exchange for the Tele-Gib; Seymour chose the Esquire. Can you blame him? The '54 Strat was given to Beck by the late Steve Marriott; Beck waited until Marriott sobered up to claim it. And the white "Wired" Strat (an early 60's model) was actually the second one given to him by John McLaughlin. The first was stolen, which is the source of Jeff''s "nicked" comment.
15 minutes with the great Jeff Beck hanging out, listening to him talking about his guitar collection and sharing his own personal anecdotes. Now how cool is that? He also comes across as just a regular bloke.
all the older players are recognizable playin' one single note(Beck,Clapton,Gilmour,Carlos Santana....).I don't hear this soul anymore with the new ones
@Kidnapper89 "The Peter Gunn Theme" from the American TV detective series of the late-50s/early-60s. It won a Grammy for Henry Mancini, and has been a jazz/rock staple for about the last 50 years. It's been covered by everyone from Duane Eddy, to Sarah Vaughn, to Jeff Beck, the Blues Brothers, Emerson, Lake and Palmer, and even my sister. Jeff is right; every school kid can play that one!
Love the 1st Strat part. "I don't play it, I don't want to get it nicked" as he places it, one handed, over the back of his rack, which holds value greater than my house. Let's leave his garage for another day. Bloody rich bastard...
Wow! Coolest guitar is the last one! I LOVE Airlines! He had a twin tone sitting in the back ground when he was playing all the electrics in the loft!

Love the 1st Strat part. "I don't play it, I don't want to get it nicked" as he places it, one handed, over the back of his rack, which holds value greater than my house. Let's leave his garage for another day. Bloody rich bastard...
