  • Wow! Coolest guitar is the last one! I LOVE Airlines! He had a twin tone sitting in the back ground when he was playing all the electrics in the loft!

  • Wow. Thanks for that. Beck is a living legend who continues to grow musically.

  • You can really tell how much he luvs them axes......

  • You don't get "skunked" unless you let it.

  • As butt head an beavis would say ... cool.

  • A 54 TELE FOR $600. WTF??????????????????

  • Seymour duncan owned him ahahaha

  • awesome

  • I didn't go too deep into the posts so this may already have been mentioned.

The McLaughlin Strat (3:04) appears to be strung lefty.

  • @ricknet57 Maybe I spoked too soon. Did he say "I run it the other way so it don't get picked"?

  • I am 25 and i really want to start playing guitar is too late i am a bit musical

  • @rustyjames761

no way dude, I'm 21 and I started playing only about 2 years ago, if you have a passion for it just go for it, to many people get put down by their age. Sure there'll be people better than you that are half your age (same thing for me) but it's not a competition, it's about achieving your own musical identity. Just enjoy it!

    ~Bartolucci

  • @Bartolucci711 cool reply man, thanks

  • Fantastic. Bottom line: Jeff could pick up any guitar and make something special happen. But, better yet, he can take a special guitar and make something exquisite happen. I always want to give away my shit after watching him. The "Wired" Strat has always been one of my favorites. As far as Seymour Duncan is concerned...He should give the Tele back. Period. I have sold back several sentimental guitars to friends at the original price. Difficult, but good karma...I hope! C'mon, Seymour!

  • @Prestostark ...The thought of Seymour Duncan "skunking" Beck out of that Esquire is sickening......Just plain EVIL!

  • @TennManWithHeart Indeed!

  • Nigel Tufnell has a nice collection of guitars.

  • Seymour Duncan screwed over Jeff Beck, eh? Wow, what an ass. Considering what that guitar was used on and how much it still means to Jeff Beck, he should have the decency to return it to him.

  • Thanks you! awesome~ really enjoyed this.

  • Great Video! really enjoyed it. thanks

  • I can listen to people talk about their guitars all day

  • Jeff Beck could take a 2x4 with strings on it and make it sound awesome. He is awesome.

This is the reason he is called the guitarist's guitarist...

  • thats not an L5.. its an ES 175

  • I dont think thats an L-5

  • he is quite similar to Snape

  • Of course, that's an ES 175...not an L5, Jeff. Anyway, a great video.

  • @mallorga1965 hey check out the vid of him at the white house with bb, buddy, and everybody else

  • " If you can't play that in five minutes , Don't even think about playing the guitar "

  • Goodnnnnnnn

  • 7 bieber fans didnt like this video...

  • Still got the ol tagger on it......

  • VRtimemachine: the Duane Eddy tune is Peter Gunn. You can hear Jeff's great full cover on his Rock 'n' Roll Party album. Fantastic.

  • does anyone know the name of the Duane Eddy song that he plays on the Gretsche?

  • you're really happy with your guitars, i'm happy to know you thanks brother

  • Jeff is one of the greats but that is definitely an ES 175.

  • @jonal335 The ES-175 doesn't have a body that deep. That was the main difference between those two guitars.

  • Yeah, but that "L-5" sure looks like an ES-175. The inlays, the neck pickup location, the switch location and the lack of the flowerpot headstock inlay all say ES-175.

  • I'd kill (literally) for an L5!!

  • I've never heard JB play those Chet Atkins /Knopfler boom chick kind of chops.... this man is a legend!

  • A wireless exactly...

  • I wish people would give me fucking guitars like that. People just hand him guitars

  • legend.

  • Where is his seafoam green Fender six string bass with the tagger still on it?!

  • DONT TOUCH IT, IT CAUNT BE PLAYED!!!!!!!! WELL DONT POINT!!!!!!!

  • @jrmarrero96 I wasn't pointing at it!

  • @jrmarrero96 lol! I also have a Marshall amp and all the nobs go to eleven!

  • @smoluk1 There are also amps that go up to twenty, but it is not nearly as cool as going to eleven.

Also, why dont you just make ten louder and make ten be the top number and make that one a little louder?

  • It's exactly one louder, innit?

  • What is the orange guitar?

  • Beck is a guitar historian of sorts, that explains why he's such a unique talent... he chases the classic tones and keeps that tradition alive.

  • Now i know what it must have been like to find a lump of Gold on your claim

    Thanks this is pure . . .

  • he sounded so peed off that seymour duncan had taken his tele i thought he was gonna give the address of where its stored just 4 payback

  • This guy's got talent, he should keep at it hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaahahahahah

  • that is one of the coolest videos I have ever seen. Thanks for the fascinating history lesson!

  • "still got the ol' tagger on it" haha Jeff is amazing!

  • Aw...

The beginning of the interview made me weep.

Seymour, don't be a douche. Give Jeff his beloved guitar back!

  • where's his oxblood les paul?

  • I couldent help but feel he could have put more effort in to this interview.

  • If he had a one-string cardboard guitar he`d make it sound great!

  • "listen the sustain.. listen to it..."

  • @Lollertron You could go have a bite, and come back and it would still be playing.

  • You can see where Chris Guest got Nigel Tuffnel from can't you?

  • @madgeniusmusic "I dont play it because i dont want to get it nicked" + a little imagination = "dont look at it!"

  • I wonder why he referred to a bridge on a guitar being a 'trick' when talking about his tele.

  • @okamasphere The word trick is a slang for modified. It's a hot rod term usually used to describe a car that has been modified. Jeff is also really into hot rods. "That car is really trick, or tricked out" So when Jeff said "it doesnt have a trick bridge on it", he means it doesnt have a modified bridge. Other words its stock.

  • @okamasphere He meant that it wasn't a "trick"bridge - it's fixed, no tremolo/floyd

  • damn why he didnt show jackson and charvel...sad

  • jacksons awww awsome

  • thank you for sharing this with us !

  • legend

  • Excellent film, good to watch ~ Thanks for posting ~ all the best, Geoff

  • How is he getting vibrato on chords? ...On a Macaferi?!?

Actually I've played one, a looong time ago, about 25 years and if memory serves the neck bends as the whole guitar is bakelite.

If you have one - don't put furniture polish on it - it eats into bakelite!

  • @3Deity You should know why...because he is Jeffrey fucking Beck!

  • Why not buy a LP or SG if you want to play HB's?

  • @bashfulbrother They play differently and have 24 3/4" scale length, Fender have thinner classical guitar fret wire and 25 1/2" scale length with a different neck shape. If you are used to Fender its very odd playing a Gibson as the control aren't where you want them. Plus, this was back in the late 60s, Eddie was still 10 years away.

  • @3Deity Very intelligent and succinct answer. Thank you. I, of course, would never try to second guess his decisions. The man is one of a few handful of geniuses that are taking music to it's next level. Fantastic mastery of the neck.

  • "What's this diddly diddly stuff!"

  • The seymour duncan story doesn't surprise me. I had dealings (or rather tried to have dealings) with him in the mid-nineties during my r&r on a product. Didn't seem like a nice person. After a disappointing experience with him, I've never used his pickups. As good and better ones all over the place.

  • Wow. No love for the two amazing Soloists that were on the rack. Shame; those are two historic Jacksons.

  • Not Cruelty Free For Guitar Players. Jeff You need to divest yourself of a few guitars and I have space. Whatever you happen to be tired of - I will handle shipping - and it would resolve some of the existential quilt for getting so many gifts yourself. Turn around the karma.

  • that room looks too small for the big sound that JB would put out. Airplane hanger is what I envisage as the room required for him to really stretch out.

  • Six people wish they could play like this and are crying like a little baby...

  • Imelda *

  • Seymour should give you back the original one just be be a good mate. Come on Seymour you have made plenty of money over the years so give the mans guitar back.

What do you say Seymour Family???

  • master !!!

  • Jeff Bek...a little too full of himself!

  • @countryclassic no where close.

  • At around the 8 minute mark is Jeff playing the intro to "Cat Moves" ? The song he recorded for Cozy Powel's album.

  • Wow He's got Jackson strats......Haven't seen the Jackson guitars with him on the stage though

  • @beabbong Hi, I believe that Jeff played the solo on the Mark Knopfler song (performed by Tina Turner) 'Private Dancer' using the pink guitar .I believe it is a Jackson.I think that he also used the orange (Charvel /Jackson?) guitar on the 'Flash' album. Not sure if there is any live footage though.

  • @TheHumbuckerboy He used the orange Jackson Soloist in the Ambitious video, and I saw him on the cover and inside of a 1984 or 1985 Guitar World magazine. Later when they asked him if he was still using The Jackson ( I don't think they knew he had 2 ) he said it didn't last , the neck was too thin. He used one of them on the 1st song on the Jeff Beck Guitar Shop album from later in the 1990's or so on the fadeout of the first song on the album.

  • @metalfiend124 The song was Guitar Shop. Inside of the guitar world magazine was an article that said, Jeff Beck still the world's guitarist and most of the pictures were with the Pink Jackson. I still have the magazine, and it made me want to get a Soloist SL1 too. Plus Eddie Van Halen had some guitars from Charvel and Randy Rhoads had the white Rhoads prototype guitar. He later ordered 3 more RR1's after they altered the shape of the white on into the RR1 available now.

  • Damn that 54 telecaster sounds like heaven, but then again Jeff Beck could probably make a broomstick sound like an orchestra.

  • It's a Gibson es 175 not an L5...

  • " I've been playing Telecasters since, God knows when, '50-'59?" What he meant to say was 1850-1859...this guy is OLD

  • @Phodie56 Sure he might be old but, he was playing professionally before he was 21, was #5 on Rolling Stone's top 100 guitarists, and has been winning Grammy's all the way up to 2010.

  • @Jackle61 I know! It's crazy, right?! All of those early bands that were pioneering the business...I dunno how they did it. Glad as heck they did though :)

  • @Phodie56 Old or young this guy is a Guitarist Guitarman..Can outplay anyone you can think of..There are a few better not many..Love that Tele..

  • I believe Jeff Beck has achieved immortality.

  • @jipak93 don't jinx it! lol

  • Nigel Tufnel.

  • @lenskap LOL... shame on you Christopher Guest... takin' a man's accent AND his shag!!!

  • @VauntedVizios Great response!

  • @lenskap hahah whats this diddly diddly stufff

  • @lenskap Pwahahah god its so ironic isn't it?

  • One of the coolest videos on youtube i have ever seen

  • love how the maccaferi gets the vibrato without actually having a vibrato on it..

  • Good interview, but all I could think about the entire time was that Jeff was going to walk over to a Marshall stack and point out that they all go to 11.

  • i rented this guitar to do... some stuff

  • Jeff wants his guitar back.

  • Fantastic! Thanks for letting us have a peek at your guitars Jeff!

  • The Best that ever was, is, or will be. Rock on Jeff !!!

  • He sounds like snape

  • What is Jeff doing with my guitars?? :@

  • ''Led Zeppelin Jimmy that is''.........Pfft as if we didnt already know....

    Both true legends...

  • JB could get tone out of a coffee table if it had strings. Unreal.

  • If you're a young player, don't be discouraged by Jeff's comment about the Peter Gunn riff--don't give up after five minutes. He's a guitar genius afterall.

I once read a guitar player interview with him where he said he stops practicing if he annoys himself within the first ten minutes--very high standards.

  • Jeff you want me to go kick seymours ass and get your Esquire back for you?

I know some russians that do that sort of thing xD

  • how many of us guitar players would like to be in the room with him? can i get a hell yes? i thought so!

  • JB's being a little disingenuous here. He gave Seymour Duncan the pick of five guitars in exchange for the Tele-Gib; Seymour chose the Esquire. Can you blame him? The '54 Strat was given to Beck by the late Steve Marriott; Beck waited until Marriott sobered up to claim it. And the white "Wired" Strat (an early 60's model) was actually the second one given to him by John McLaughlin. The first was stolen, which is the source of Jeff''s "nicked" comment.

  • Dang, I feel like I've just been to church!

  • 15 minutes with the great Jeff Beck hanging out, listening to him talking about his guitar collection and sharing his own personal anecdotes. Now how cool is that? He also comes across as just a regular bloke.

  • How could anyone not like this? I just came across it accidentally & enjoyed all 14:34 of it

  • @rocky52a I agree.. Jeez, he sounds so Sad , about trading that Yardbird Guitar .. lol

  • That was the best 14;34 of my life..

  • he seems to miss that esquire or at least regret that trade to a degree

  • a dick???????!! really???

  • Why are people being so negative? He's a great guitarist going through his amazing collection of guitars. Enjoy!

  • @straitveiw74 Jeff is far from a dick.... met him once, gave him a beer and we had a short but great chat about some bands on the festival :)

  • How cool is this :))

  • Thanks for posting this. Lovely.

  • Love his music. His contribution to music is undeniable, but he just seems like such a dick.

  • @straitview74 nah he's just proper english

  • Why the fuck doesn't he do a record of him just playing like this! sell a ton! Cmon Jeff

  • John5 would luv to have that tele.

  • @DALE97DSM john 5 loves all teles

  • I don't think that's an L5. Poss ES 295 or 175

  • all the older players are recognizable playin' one single note(Beck,Clapton,Gilmour,Carlos Santana....).I don't hear this soul anymore with the new ones

  • "I'd like you to have this 54 strat"

    "Thank you very much Mr."

That type of shit happens to me all the time lol

  • You know, that Jeff guy gets a lot of free guitars. Thing is, do they all go to 11?

  • WHAT?? ..No metallic Dirt Bag Darrell Zack metal pedals from the KING of great tones. lol

  • why not just make ten louder........but this one goes to 11

  • Nigel!

  • Best one left of his era for sure....

  • The white strat looks like its strung lefty !

  • Seymour Duncan told me the story about the Esquire and meeting Jeff. haha.

  • Fascinating - thanks!

  • The worst part of this video is that it ended

  • jeff was practicing his country licks before this vid haha

  • whats that tune from 10:32?

  • @Kidnapper89 "The Peter Gunn Theme" from the American TV detective series of the late-50s/early-60s. It won a Grammy for Henry Mancini, and has been a jazz/rock staple for about the last 50 years. It's been covered by everyone from Duane Eddy, to Sarah Vaughn, to Jeff Beck, the Blues Brothers, Emerson, Lake and Palmer, and even my sister. Jeff is right; every school kid can play that one!

  • @desertswo thanks man

  • haw about the frank zappa groupis thar fucknyou

  • "This one....goes to eleven....see"?

  • What a great post. Very informative and i enjoy Jeff's commentary about each guitar. 5*****

  • He's a much more 'all round' guitar player than I realised. Rockabilly - jazz.

  • beck on acoustic made my day...

  • muchas gracias

  • some piece of history indeed!

  • 5 people are fackin retarded.

  • that's not an L5! It's ES175

  • @guitaress1 if jeff beck says its an L5 than its an L5... gibson will have to change the name

  • @DakotaPlaysGuitar - LOL Hilariuos!

  • @guitaress1 You're right!!

  • @guitaress1 True. It's an ES175

  • Didn't Jeff smash an esquire in the 1960's film "Blow Up"?

He sounded best when playing through the old Vox AC-100 amps!!

  • Oops !! Sorry to be a bore. Only just read all the other comments and realised I'm hardly first to spot the"Nigel" resemblance...

  • Wonder where Spinal Tap's Nigel Tufnel got part of his his character from, eh..?

PLEASE Don't get me wrong and start shooting me down. Just havin a laugh here.

I have fucking LOVED Jeff Beck For EVER! A true guitar God's guitar God.

(Gotta Love "Don't even LOOK at That one " and "But these go to eleven.." Nigel too! - bet Jeff does...)

  • @longjonwhite

You are not wrong. Christopher Guest has said many times before he based much of the Nigel character on Jeff Beck. No joke.

  • Love the 1st Strat part. "I don't play it, I don't want to get it nicked" as he places it, one handed, over the back of his rack, which holds value greater than my house. Let's leave his garage for another day. Bloody rich bastard...

  • Jeff Beck is my guitar god!!! This guy is where most rock guitar players followed.
