Agreed with truerailfan01 - back to a classic consist, minus the obs car at the rear. Maybe those will come back some day, too....I can dream, right? Great video!
Thank you MsC1953.The dining car service makes up for the train being late all of the time.Also the Lake Shore Limited food taste better than all of the East Coast single level long distance trains in my opinion.I hope the Observation and Dome cars get put back in service with the East Coast long distance trains.
The Lake Shore Limited isn't late all the time. In the last week it was only late 3 out of 7 days and none of those 3 was more than 1 hour late. HOWEVER: Today it is estimated to be 5-6 hours late.
There are currently no modern done type cars, so don't count on seeing any such cars being returned to service any time soon.
also the diner fare on the lake shore is generally the same as any other diner out of NY-commissary, so if it tastes better thats most likely psychological.
Don't get me wrong, I'm very happy to have the Diner back and real diner menu....
@nhlives I have ridden the Cresent,Silver Star,Lakeshore Limited (2007) and Silver Meteor and ate on all those trains.Even the menu's are the same.Amtrak's chef's cook the food different based on the region they are from.If you order the same thing from train to train you notice that the food taste different each time.
while that may indeed be true all 3 of the trains you mentioned are staffed with Diner crews out of NY Commissary so most of the are from same part of the country (Metro NY).
I'm not saying one crew is as good a cook as the next - but thats IS to say that the food on the EB Lakeshore #48 on January 5th (48-05) is also different then the food on the EB Lakeshore the next day (48-06) or for that matter from the food on 49-05 and 49-06) as those would all be different crews.
@nhlives I understand that you are not saying that one crew is good as the the next.All of the Amtrak Chef's cook great food.I hated taking the trains when they had Diner-Lite cars.
Finally the Lakeshore Limited look like an Supersized Cardinal without its dining cars.I love the Heritage sleepers,diners,and coaches better than the Amfleet 2's and Viewliners.Eventhough the Viewliners look sweet as hell.I love when the Lakeshore Limited have its dining cars because it looks like an classic train.Nice Video.

@TheADude213
Oh? I actually HATE them.. I mean they might LOOK cool but they are some of the WORST designed passenger cars ever to grace North American rails.
