I don't like how so many people think that Scream Machine always got no attention b/c of all the other "newer" coasters at Great Adventure. I call bullshit on all the haters b/c if that was the case, they would have removed Scream Machine way before 2010. It was a coaster enjoyed/loved by true coaster fans all over the US. So, recognize and respect y'all. Scream Machine broke records long before Nitro, Kingda Ka, and El Toro ever did.
Wow have times changed... I can understand how in 1989 it was state of the art, but fast forward 20 years, the last time I went on it, it just is there to nauseate me on a ride superseded by the big boys like El Toro, Nitro, and Kingda Ka. I don't even think I went on it this past June when I went to Great Adventure.
@dadsoldtapes > That's funny b/c I would always ride Scream Machine as soon as I got to the park. My very first coaster was an Arrow looper, so I loved Scream Machine.
Im glad I got to ride it in 2009. I went there this past weekend and was sad to see it closed. I, and Im sure many other coaster fans, will miss this ride very much. A faithful 21 years of service.
Ah back in the day! This was a great year for coasters. The Great American Scream Machine premiered at Great Adventure. Hercules premiered at Dorney Park. Magnum XL-200 premiered at Cedar Point. They all premiered in the same month too. The Arrow mega-loopers were thee hot ticket ^ and the race to build the "Biggest is Best" wood and steel coaster war was officially on with the unveiling of Hercules and Magnum.
i hope they never tare this down i love this coaster even wit al the coasters in the park today and best part is there is never ever a line for it lol
"This ride is smooth". haha. I love seeing the station full and everyone applauding. Now, the car comes back with 5 people in it, all of them wincing in pain, and no one applauding. There's usually only a line for the front seat.
Dude, this was definitely old news. It used to be the best coaster. And for some it still is, for an old roller coaster this one is definitely awesome.
I know that this was old media coverage. I was just saying that people shouldn't hate on it b/c it's an older, rougher rollercoaster. Regardless, it's a fun ride and has never been off my list of fave rides :)
I wonder what it was about these Arrow giants that made them "get rougher" over time. It's sister, Shockwave at Great America, was a favorite of mine and I think those that complained about it being rough just didn't know how to ride it properly and were just wimpy. It wasn't any rougher than a motorcycle...
I went on this in the fall of 91. I was very smooth. It was weird when I went back on it for the first time two years ago and had a different experience.
I think this is funny. They're so scared about what seems now like a "nothing coaster". I mean, Nitro, Medusa, Kingda Ka, El Toro, and all those other monster coasters weren't even there yet. They made it sound like it was like a KK type ride. Although, back then it probably was. LOL.
A lot of people seem to dislike this ride, I loved it. But I'm not SHORT either.

@mofodante89 Yep, 1989 was the year that set the amusement industry on fire. Quite a few parks put themselves on the map since then.

I Like this ride, but this was probably the first and last full train. Today This ride is never full, even when other lines are hours long
