They were cranking out tanks so fast that some left the factory unpainted. They also, in early parts of the war, sent out less rifles than soldiers. The idea was to take one off of a dead comrade. I'm not a redneck.. I'm a Russian American serving in the armed forces with american weaponry, which is good engineering, but the Germans have the crown. Firing the G36 from HK is a joy. It feels somewhat more controllable even though it uses the same rifle round as my M4. I don't care who its made by as long as its soldier friendly and had knock down power.

exteremely biased video. AK-74 is reliable as fuck, extremely simple to assemble disassemble, extremely low cost to manufacture. The accuracy compare to m4 in theory should be about the same with muzzle velocity higher(AK-74) at the same barrel length. Fully holding buttstock gives you alot more practicality than telescoping buttstock of a m4. Simplicity, realiability, decent perfomance and very low cost by big margin makes soviet assault rifle a real warrior, not a toy with fancy rail and stuff

Compactness = Actually, the standard AK's overall length is about the same as the M-4 Carbine, but it's compactness you're looking for, go see the AKS-74U
Modularity = Go check out the AK-200.
No matter what the AR rifle throws at the AK, the AK always has an answer for them.
@Mikoyan01 Actually, the AK is less accurate due to the piston fucking with the barrel's harmonics and the gun itself has manufacturing tolerences looser than a $2 hooker on payday. It's accurate enough to the job, but Yevgeny Dragunov had to make some serious modifications to the basic pattern when he designed his rifle. Also, while AKs rarely break, when they do you basically have to trash the whole gun. M16s are easier to maintain/fix as a rule.

Second, LAV has classed dedicated solely to teaching people how to use an AK. Flash hiders do reduce muzzle flash all around, not just for the troop firing it. Muzzle brakes, on the other hand, are like mini-flashbangs by comparison. Practically draws your enemy a map to your position.
@RaderizDorret Perhaps I'm wrong about his bias. According to Army Field Manual FM 3-22, the primary purpose of a flash hider is to mask the flash for the shooter. Like somebody mentioned, we wouldn't be using tracers if we were very concerned about hiding flash signiture.
@esh325 Tracers aren't that commonly used. Hell, the powder in our rounds is formulated to be low flash as well. Also, the Army believes that standard CLP is a proper solvent for a precision rifle. I'm highly dubious about what's in some of the field manuals. Finally, LAV is a retired Master Sergeant who served his entire 20 years in the special forces community and was an armorer for Delta Force for most of that time. It's safe to say he knows what he's talking about.

I'm not denying he's a knowledgeable and very experienced person, but like everybody, he's still human and makes mistakes.
@esh325 Not for rifles, they're not to the best of my knowledge. Most of the tracers I see come from belt-feds and AA guns. And I'm using the CLP bit as an example of something that the Army is wrong about. I agree that Larry is human and can make mistakes, but he's correct far more often than not.

I should have worded my "not commonly used" bit to clarify with respect to rifles. Again, flash hiders reduce overall flash. The main benefit is to reduce the chances of blinding the shooter, but it also makes it harder to determine where a shot came from. A weapon with a brake is more likely to give your position away more readily than one with a hider.

A muzzle break reduces recoil but amplifies flash. Tracer rounds are only used in machine guns, not rifles. It has a dual function. Your are right about a flash suppressor lowering the flash of the firing gun to primarily let the shooter see what he's shooting at night.
However, this also reduces your light exposure to the enemy. If there weren't a flash suppressor, you'd attract all the attention of the enemy, instantly giving away your position at night. With the suppressor, the enemy needs to be more focused to know where you're shooting from with a small gun flash to be seen
@cod4isthebestest The problem is, that you have to fit the scope on that receiver, witch the barrel fits on. In case of the AR its the upper receiver, this is easy, because you can just fit your scope in the top, but the AK, fits its barrel on the lower one ( one perimeter for its durability ), so the Scope has to fit on the lower Receiver and this is why its needing mount, witch can look a bit weird for western eyes.

@LimpBizkitRus You do know that both the T72 and T80 are considered main battle tanks, the light/medium/heavy line of thinking disappeared shortly after the second world war. The T80-series of tanks (T-64 lineage) have the same issues as the T-72. No Soviet/Russian tank is really comparable to any modern Western MBT in terms of armor protection. They have a much different design philosophy.

I'm not a redneck.. I'm a Russian American serving in the armed forces with american weaponry, which is good engineering, but the Germans have the crown. Firing the G36 from HK is a joy. It feels somewhat more controllable even though it uses the same rifle round as my M4. I don't care who its made by as long as its soldier friendly and had knock down power.

exteremely biased video. AK-74 is reliable as fuck, extremely simple to assemble disassemble, extremely low cost to manufacture. The accuracy compare to m4 in theory should be about the same with muzzle velocity higher(AK-74) at the same barrel length. Fully holding buttstock gives you alot more practicality than telescoping buttstock of a m4. Simplicity, realiability, decent perfomance and very low cost by big margin makes soviet assault rifle a real warrior, not a toy with fancy rail and stuff

Which is why they don't really give a damn about recoil and care more about concealing their position. Soviets, shoot on the move, so controllability is more important and concealability is not so important. Not that the US values soldier lives more, just that their doctrines are different.

Accuracy = The main factors that made the AK less accurate than the M-16 is the larger round and the angled stock, but now we have a smaller round and more straight stock AK-74
Compactness = Actually, the standard AK's overall length is about the same as the M-4 Carbine, but it's compactness you're looking for, go see the AKS-74U
Modularity = Go check out the AK-200.
No matter what the AR rifle throws at the AK, the AK always has an answer for them.

@Mikoyan01 Actually, the AK is less accurate due to the piston fucking with the barrel's harmonics and the gun itself has manufacturing tolerences looser than a $2 hooker on payday. It's accurate enough to the job, but Yevgeny Dragunov had to make some serious modifications to the basic pattern when he designed his rifle. Also, while AKs rarely break, when they do you basically have to trash the whole gun. M16s are easier to maintain/fix as a rule.

Second, LAV has classed dedicated solely to teaching people how to use an AK. Flash hiders do reduce muzzle flash all around, not just for the troop firing it. Muzzle brakes, on the other hand, are like mini-flashbangs by comparison. Practically draws your enemy a map to your position.

@esh325 Tracers aren't that commonly used. Hell, the powder in our rounds is formulated to be low flash as well. Also, the Army believes that standard CLP is a proper solvent for a precision rifle. I'm highly dubious about what's in some of the field manuals. Finally, LAV is a retired Master Sergeant who served his entire 20 years in the special forces community and was an armorer for Delta Force for most of that time. It's safe to say he knows what he's talking about.

@esh325 Not for rifles, they're not to the best of my knowledge. Most of the tracers I see come from belt-feds and AA guns. And I'm using the CLP bit as an example of something that the Army is wrong about. Hell, most units still think that the M16 can be run dry, not to mention I've seen people taking cleaning rods to the crown of their barrels. I agree that Larry is human and can make mistakes, but he's correct far more often than not.

I should have worded my "not commonly used" bit to clarify with respect to rifles. Again, flash hiders reduce overall flash. The main benefit is to reduce the chances of blinding the shooter, but it also makes it harder to determine where a shot came from. A weapon with a brake is more likely to give your position away more readily than one with a hider.

It has a dual function. Your are right about a flash suppressor lowering the flash of the firing gun to primarily let the shooter see what he's shooting at night.
However, this also reduces your light exposure to the enemy. If there weren't a flash suppressor, you'd attract all the attention of the enemy, instantly giving away your position at night. With the suppressor, the enemy needs to be more focused to know where you're shooting from with a small gun flash to be seen

@cod4isthebestest The problem is, that you have to fit the scope on that receiver, witch the barrel fits on. In case of the AR its the upper receiver, this is easy, because you can just fit your scope in the top, but the AK, fits its barrel on the lower one ( one perimeter for its durability ), so the Scope has to fit on the lower Receiver and this is why its needing mount, witch can look a bit weird for western eyes.

@LimpBizkitRus You do know that both the T72 and T80 are considered main battle tanks, the light/medium/heavy line of thinking disappeared shortly after the second world war. The T80-series of tanks (T-64 lineage) have the same issues as the T-72. No Soviet/Russian tank is really comparable to any modern Western MBT in terms of armor protection. They have a much different design philosophy.

@LimpBizkitRus actually, the soviets im sure used that as a sales pitch to all of those other countries such as Iraq, and other sat republics... The famous T-72.... alot of people thought they were something serious... but in desert storm, the coalition saw the rounds falling short :)
