  • we showed how not to celebrate after a score.. and the Mormons showed they don't know what two seconds on a PAT means.. nice

  • and the official rule is anything that draws attention to one particular player, even this weekend,a player got a 15 yard penalty for celebration because he saluted to the crowd, and it cost that team the game too

  • Dumb refs.

  • I'm a BYU fan and that has to be the stupidest rule in the whole fucking world. Nice block though...

  • Hurray for the Mountain West Conference killing the Pac 10 in the last few years :D

  • woot woot... ha ha go cougs

  • even if the kicker wouldnt have fucked up, BYU still owns you huskie dick suckers in overtime...haha GO BYU, keep crying husky-fuks

  • @rambomoore9999 Joseph Smith was called a prophet dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb, Read scripture on golden plates dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb, even though nobody else ever saw them dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb

  • @rambomoore9999 lol its funny cause that makes no sense XD

  • That's the hand of God right there.

  • i was at this game and i swear the refs were fucking mormon and were going to the church of lader de saints the next day

  • @amluerxray7 actually they were pac10 refs

  • @NextStep21 yah they can still be mormon any way pac ten officials suck ass

  • If you can't make a 35 yard attempt, you don't deserve to win the game.

  • The kicked was blocked it doesnt matter whether he kicks it 15 yeards back! theres nothing controversial about this if the kick was blocked!

  • The refs did cheat in this game. They cheated against BYU the whole game. What a bunch of crap. PAc-1 is a bunch of cheaters for the conference.

  • UW lost. End of story. The penalty didn't lose the game, folks. BYU blocking the PAT won the game. Don't worry...UW will get another chance to lose to the Cougs this Sept.

  • i love jake locker!!!! hes a flipin beast

  • I'm a BYU fan and I don't love the rule that Locker broke. However, even if UW had made the extra point, there is still no guarantee that they would have won the game. Plus, the kick was so low, it nearly hit his own players in the back. I'm not sure the penalty can be entirely blamed for the block.

  • Who cares if Washington got a flag. BYU would've just blocked the kick anyway. It's not like the flag changed the game.

  • I'm a BYU fan and I honestly didn't like the call... But nevertheless, Washington should have played through and they just didn't execute...

  • just not a good call at all

  • How does losing that bad to FSU AT HOME feel BYU fans?

  • how does loseing every single game last year feel??

  • Owned by Cougars twice in one season! Go BYU/WSU! This may be the only thing the two schools share in common!

  • Worst call ever.

  • These guys sound like Bert and Ernie, hahaha, Its so funny to see so much bias play calling and then to see there hearts broken when BYU blocks the kick!! hahaha. Bert said ""Now thats purley in the hands of the officials!!'' aaaaahhahahahaha, nope its in the HAND OF JAN JORGENSEN!! He blocked the damn kick!!

  • way to go jan jorgenson to block his kick. so what are you washington fans crying about now??????? that was obviously the right call. Go cougars. they will beat oklahoma this september!!!!!! right? oh yeah. quit your whining washinton fans. go cougs

  • game over byu won the game no uw

  • I'm a BYU fan and I don't agree with the call. A 35 yard fg directly from center isn't the most difficult kick in the world, and BYU blocked it soundly. Great play, bad call, great play. Credit to both teams for a great game and just too bad it had to come down to something so stupid.

  • Only team without a win last year in the FBS.

    bwahahahaha!!!

  • All over sports shows? LOL do you have no education about the propaganda model in mass media? Of course they wanted to cause controversy, it brings viewership, and UW is part of the big money PAC10. I was at that game and Locker threw the ball 40 feet into the air no question, thats a penalty everytime. Just make your stupid extra point next time and quit crying about it. You sound like a bunch of classless losers. Also, I love UW and their fans but people like you are making it difficult.

  • hey guess what bro im a usc fan and i think that that was the right call and if the officials hadn't blown that blatant hold on 4th down that extra point never would have happened

  • hahaha, true true.....

  • We blocked the kick..........nuff said......

  • @TheaAmbiance Lol. No one and I mean no one cares what you say because we beat you this year with a worse team. So yeah... Pac 10 = Fail :D

  • It isnt a matter of the rule book you mormon fucks!!! Yeah, keep quoting the goddamn rule book and watch every college football game on a saturday and watch how many fucking players break that piece of shit rule and DONT GET A PENALTY CALLED. Yeah, by the book Jake broke the rule He didn't walk over and hand the ball to the ref. BUT 99 OUT OF FUCKING 100 TIMES, REFS DON'T CALL BULLSHIT LIKE THAT. OTHERWISE HALF OF THE TOUCHDOWNS IN THE COUNTRY WOULD BE FOLLOWED BY A 15yd FLAG!

  • ha to bad uw didnt win any games all year dumb ass

  • @TheaAmbiance I watch college football every week and the refs got this one right. Nobody celebrates like that without getting flagged...throwing the ball way up high in the air (the video didnt show how high the ball went up) is ALWAYS called a penalty.

  • @TheaAmbiance and 100 out of 100 times, UW fans will cry about it ;)

  • Man Fuck the Fucking Refz...UW had this game...Everyone Fucken Knows it

  • @121813 ya, let me tell ya, we all knew that Washington was gonna win in overtime :P pretty arrogant statement. Whose to say the xtra point wouldnt have been blocked anyway? It was still a chip shot. If they had the game they would have BLOCKED.

  • I LIKE HOW U WASHINGTON FANS CRY ABOUT THIS!!! it was ur own refs( pac 10) And they always srew the opposing confrence team!

  • Washington got robbed but they had a horrible season

  • LOL... The "savior" Jake Locker, tryin to stunt and ended up costing UW the game... priceless.

See you pups October 24th, when "nike U" makes it 6 straight.

    BOW... DOWN... TO 0-12!!

  • everyone get's bad calls. I don't like byu or washington but i watched the game. BYU blocked the field goal and won, thats that. And the film shows the ball going 30 feet in the air. But good job with BYU's Defense in getting the block

  • the ref that threw the flag teaches science at my school and he's the worst football and baseball coach ever! seriously we have talent and speed cause we win track every year but our football team wins 2-4 games a year and baseball wins like 3-6

  • it was enthusiasm.

    and speeding can kill someone

what will throwing the ball in the air do?

and it made this team a winless fucking team!

and made BYU look like the shit even though they we on their backs against a shitty team

    you said it your self.

  • How did that make byu look like the shit? At the time they were ranked in the top 25 in the country. If anything it made your team look REAL shitty until the block at the end. Pretty much a win by default, not something I would be particularly proud of.

  • i ment if they beat BYU

and my team is shit smarts

  • After a score or any other play, the player in possession immediately

must return the ball to an official or leave it near the dead-ball spot.

    This prohibits:

    (a) Kicking, throwing, spinning or carrying (including off of the

field) the ball any distance that requires an official to retrieve it.

    (c) Throwing the ball high into the air.

    (d) Any other unsportsmanlike act or actions that delay the game.

The officials should have let this go.

  • It's all because Willingshits is the most fucked up coach in the history of Washington football.

  • what i hate is that BYU thinks they're hot shit when are really a mid-major joke.

  • What the officials meant was this:

"Personal foul against Washington for unsportsmanlike conduct. 15 yards to be enforced on the try...and no points to be scored against BYU for at least the next 27 days."

    :-)

    GO COUGARS

  • Let's see - Neuheisel, followed by Wyoming, then the annual General Conference bye, that would be 103-0 over 27 days.

  • Did they seriously play on Fri. to avoid missing General Conference? USU has a fair amount of LDS players as well. Not to mention the fan base of both teams.

  • @brothergames lmao Go Cougars? Must feel great to be a fan of the WORST TEAM in the Pac-10!

  • Byu was ahead in every single stat, and fumbled into the endzone for a touchback otherwise it wouldn't even have been close...

Ask Kai Forbath (UCLA) if we need a 15 yard penalty to block a kick.

The officials didn't miss their block assignments and let a guy through (he got held, too).

BYU would have won in overtime.

DID BYU EVEN PUNT THE SECOND HALF? I CAN'T REMEMBER ONE?

The Pac one is 0-5 vs. the MWC...

And oh yeah... BYU 59 - UCLA 0

  • I agree that the Pac-10 sucks this year and it's awesome that they are now 0-6 against the MWC. First off, I was at this game. BYU was getting worked and played terrible the first 3 quarters. Second of all a kick from further back needs to be aimed lower to get distance which makes it easier to block. Third, UCLA sucks this year. The only team they beat is 1-3 and the 1 win is against a 1-3 FCS team. Not saying much. I'd be surprised if UCLA gets bowl eligible this year.

  • NCAA 2008 Rules

    Page FR-122

    2. After a score or any other play, the player in possession immediately

must return the ball to an official or leave it near the dead-ball spot.

    This prohibits:

    (a) Kicking, throwing, spinning or carrying (including off of the

field) the ball any distance that requires an official to retrieve it.

    (b) Spiking the ball to the ground.

    (c) Throwing the ball high into the air.

    (d) Any other unsportsmanlike act or actions that delay the game.

  • they blocked the field goal

its not like they blocked it cuz it was farther away.

they could have blocked the shorter one even without the penalty!

  • Think about it. A kick from further away needs to be aimed lower to get distance to reach the uprights as opposed to a PAT from about 20 yards back. A lower kick is easier to block.

  • BYU4U sent something about the last post i made. Only problem is the difference between is that a law is concrete and that rule is under interpretation. If you have a BAL over a certain limit you go to jail. If you drive over a certain speed you go to jail. BYU4U please in your wisdom tell me how High is "High in the air" 2 inches 10 inches 30 ft?" It was a judgement call and the refs screwed the pooch on that one!

  • Cool. But video WAY too long.

  • BYU just blocked UCLA's 30 yard attempt. Must have been the players that won the game not the refs. Washington needs to learn how to block better.

  • AMEN! to "cdtamazing"

  • NCAA Rule 9, Section 2:

After a score or any other play, the player in possession immediately must return the ball to an official or leave it near the dead-ball spot.

    This prohibits:

    (a) Kicking, throwing, spinning or carrying (including off of the field) the ball any distance that requires an official to retrieve it.

    (b) Spiking the ball to the ground [Exception: A forward pass to conserve time (Rule 7-3-2-d)].

    (c) Throwing the ball high into the air.

  • I don't get it - a rule's a rule, and should be enforced throughout the game. This isn't BYU's doing, it's something that washington did to screw up, and it cost them.

  • like the commentor said that was a bad call no question about it

things always seems to go the way of BYU in basketball or football

  • are you a Utah fan?

  • All this bullshit could have been avoided if the guy made a 35 yard chip shot

  • thats what i'm sayin

  • Hard to make a chip shot when your O-line dosent stop the defense from blocking your attempt. Dumb Fuck. Did you even watch the video?

  • I dont blame the kicker i blame the special teams in whole, if your team can't convert a successful 35 yard chip shot from the middle hash then maybe they should be a division III program, or the dumb ass QB could've just gave the ball to the ref... Douchebag

  • washington fans please tell me this. What did the refs call have to do with byu blocking the PAT??? Will u please stop complaining.

  • Washington was holding all day and was almost never flagged. Pac-10 officiating is terribly biased just ask anyone who watched the Oklahoma vs Oregon game a few years ago. Keep crying i don't feel sorry for you.

  • what is the big F-IN deal??? who cares where the PAT started from? BYU blocked the kick. they would have blocked in no matter where the ball was snapped from.although it was a bad call washington did not lose because of the refs. get off the refs' back

  • I am a High School Quarterback. I did almost that excact same thing one time, and not even i got a flag. And beleave me they tell you when they think u are drawing attention to yourself!

  • as a huskies fan, this makes me phisically ill. the refs should be fired...

  • BYU made the play to win the game when they needed to. BYU did nothing wrong, it was the ref's doing, so don't hate on BYU, hate on the ref.

  • byu = gay

  • Hmm... How's your favorite college team doing, I wonder?

  • each and every play in every game, ref's use their better judgement. If not, there would be holding calls on every play. The simple fact is that this ref called an unneeded, unwarranted call because he could. he is a joke, the call was a joke.

  • If he had better judgement, they would have called AT LEAST one call on Washington before the final minutes of the game. Including obvious and blatant holding calls.

  • its dumb as hell and i dont even follow college football. He threw the ball up after play was done. It also takes time for special teams and whatnot to come back on so who the hell is it hurting? That one dumbass rule if you ask me.

  • you can't throw or toss the ball after a touchdown in college football. period! he tossed it pretty high up and so i agree with the official call of unsportsmanlike conduct. at the college level, once you get in the endzone, just drop the damn ball, then go celebrate with your teammates

  • That it is so god damn Biest!

U only think that because you are a BYU fan. Not deny it because everyone can tell. This was wrong!

  • Whenever they show all the replays, they never show just how high up the ball was thrown. It was more than 25 feet!!!!! How can the refs not call that? I agree that it's a stupid rule. I've always hated the celebration rules. But until they're changed the call has to be made.

  • Yeah that was pretty bs...

  • that was a stupid call about throwing the ball in the air.

  • i love how the BYU fans are just calling the washington folks sore losers. im a UK fan and i feel that was totally bogus as well. stupidity. so get off your high horse BYU and accept that the officials sucked.

  • Of course they sucked!!! That's why they missed all the holding and other calls the entire game!! Go look at the play by play and you will see Washington did not get flagged until the very, very end of the game. And that was not because they were playing perfectly.

  • Shut the hell up moodytoons! you were so lucky that the refs made an awful call. If the BS penalty was applied on the kick off then UW would have GONE FOR TWO WITH LOCKER AND WON! So dont pop off like that, because you and your mormon team almost lost. BTW Jesus saves!

  • It was also luck that gave our team 150 yards more offense than Washington, and luck that made us fumble in the endzone right? Who had more luck?

  • Hey dumbass, you and your morman team are ranked 15th in the country, its expected that you have more total offense than UW.

    PS: Have fun in hell!

  • It was expected and we did. But luck had nothing to do with BYU winning. In fact, luck made the game close for Washington. Well, Locker helped a ton too. Very good player.

  • that is gay you have to bring up religion into this you FUCKIN fool!,oh by the way keep my seat warm in hell, and learn to spell MORMON right you DICK!!

  • Garguinchona, I think you have more of a problem with a mormon school beating UW than you do with the refs, just reading all of you comments. Your always bashing on the mormons at the end of your comments. Stop whining that a mormon team beat UW. GROW UP!!! Sheesh! and stop whining about everything other than the fact the UW lost and the call was based off of a RULE, not biased, and that BYU blocked the kick afterwards. Your done talking, you just look like a retard everytime you comment!

  • your a fuckin doushbag u cocksucker fuck those mormons

  • WOW, your cool. You can use big words!!! How old are you, like 10???? Seriously, come on. Bashing on a religion you know nothing about???? Use your computer for something useful and learn about something, like a new vocabulary or something about mormons before you start takling about their religion like that. No need to act like a complete dick while looking retarded at the same time!

  • yep he does and we believe that,so keep huggin your NIV

  • That was bogus. Washington College should've had a regular Extra Point attempt. being 15 yards farther back puts more pressure on your kicker and team and results in bad things more likely then not. He scored the possible tying touchdown and he was celebrating with the team like the announcers said... he wasn't celebrating in self-righteousness. I understand it was spiked behind him, it wasn't intentional. They blocked it, but it should've been at the 10 not the 25. That rides on the officials

  • the dam morman coach at the end for the interview was a jackass

  • He may be a MORMON, but you are a completely illiterate, incompetent, prejudice, ignorant MORON. Boo. You shouldn't say a word about something you don't know anything about. Bringing religion into this is just immature.

  • how am i illeterate? do u even know what that means. I actually know quite a bit about religion

  • Yes, I know what illiterate means, it means your education background is lacking, and that maybe you can't read or spell very well. And if you claim to know a lot about religion then why can't you spell Mormon correctly?

Anyways, doesn't matter anymore. Did you happen to see the BYU UCLA score this weekend? If not just look at the score. And I did happen to see the score of the Wash game too. Bye Bye. Maybe next season they can amount to something.

  • honestly i dont know why your ranting about your BYU team im not even a washington fan. the call was just bs. Who agreed with that call other then BYU fans?? espn analysts didnt? but since BYU is such a big powerhouse football school you know everthing. BYU will be nothing this year or next

  • you are so correct..... and the there is talk that byu should get a chance at the bcs title. no way..... they might have kicked the crap out of ucla and shouldnt have won against washington, but they can compete with any of the top 10 teams. byu gets the most atheletic mormons from the entire country. many of students feel its there christan duty to play at byu. byu should be so much better because of this fact.

  • Come on wash fans...Why don't you show some good sportsmanship. You can't throw or spike the ball in college football, and that's that! They still should've been able to hit a 35 yard attempt, but it was BLOCKED BABY!!! Go BYU!!!!! Wash fans need to quit whining. Just a game. And it's too bad Jake Locker is the only player on the team.

  • you've never kicked a football have you? a 35 yarder is not even a gimme for the Pros let alone a college kid. And dont call me a Washington fanboy, i am a Husker to the bone. Let the kids play, they should ultimately decide the outcome of the game not the officials.

  • wow fag.... their celebration with all the fans charging the field before the clock runs out should give them a 10 yard penalty, and repeated down.... i mean, if its a 15 yard penalty for 1 guy to "celebrate" then whats the penalty for 1700 people to celebrate? i mean for gods sake... he ran it past all those people... and then was excited... but how about the blocking line? a lil bit more excessive in my opinion and they should be penalized... not the qb

  • They were penalized. A 15 yard penalty on the kick-off. Geez, people, look at more than just the penalty.

  • Maybe you're right about the kick not being a gimme or whatever. And honestly, deep down I really absolutely hate the celebration rules. BUT THE FACT STILL REMAINS: Locker threw the ball over 25 feet in the air!!! That's simply just against the rules. I really wish the game could've gone into an overtime battle. That would've been sweet. But don't blame the refs, blame the lame rule.

  • And also: The refs didn't decide the outcome of the game. The refs didn't throw the ball 25 ft. in the air. The refs didn't blow the extra point by kicking it on a low trajectory. The refs didn't block the kick. They penalized BOTH teams for celebration. By the lame rules (maybe try reading them, I did) they made the right calls.

  • That official ought to be suspended anytime the refs get in the way and dont let the players decide the outcome is a tragedy against sports

  • That ball looked like it was thrown pretty high. I don't see where judgement would come into play there. Should it be a penalty? NO. Under the current rule is it a penalty? YES. Plain and simple. Locker shouldn't feel bad though. The kick should have been made, regardless of the excessive celebration. Blame the line...

  • regardless of what football "experts" are saying, the penalty had nothing to do with the kick. jan jorgensen was standing ON THE GROUND IN FRONT OF THE KICKER. he broke through the line, the ball didn't even make it to the leapers at the line of scrimmage. so all that crap about trajectory is stupid. the UW line broke down, jorgensen got in there and made the play. end of story.

  • I am neither BYU or Wash fan, and I say with total conviction the penalty should have been called. The rule specifically states that if you throw the ball high in the air like Locker did, it is a penalty. The problem is the rule should not say what specific acts constitutes a penalty and leave calls entirely up to the ref's judgement. If I am a ref and I am being judged by my boss and the rule says throwing the ball in the air is a penalty, I throw the flag.

  • I'm with you 100%. So called "Experts" are saying that Locker through the ball parallel to the groung... what a load. He threw the thing straight up in the air. Thus, the penalty call was correct.

  • He threw it down behind his shoulder not up... the call was bogus. I am a fan of neither team... It shouldn't have been called. He jumped up threw it down over his shoulder to celebrate with the team. He didn't launch into the air and dance on his own.. he threw it over his shoulder and I can bet that he didn't spike it intentionally and celebrated legally with the team. That was bogus. You never know what would've happened if it were not called, but that is how it should've have been. Bad Call

  • That's Pac-10 officiating for you

  • I'm a huge BYU fan and even I have to say that was a bad call. You can argue the more ambiguous points about about vague, subjective rules all you want, but the fact remains that a bad call cost Washington an overtime.

Come on other BYU fans, you can't say that was a good call and still claim to be objective. YOU KNOW you'd be arguing the other way if it was the Y who got hosed.

  • Washington still had a fairly easy kick to make and it got blocked. Washington may not have won in overtime. If they had gone for 2 they may not have made it. If they had kicked from the 20 they may not have made it. To say Willingham said there was no plan to go for two. Look at the stats BYU was the better team and Washington had the homefield advantage. All Washington had to do was make a relatively easy 35 yard pat and they didn't end of story.

  • And ANYONE who thinks this was a "good call" is either blind or a homer. Say what you will about "the rule". There is a difference between the letter of the rule and the spirit of the rule and that was NOT in the spirit of that rule.

  • What is all of this crap talk about letter of the law and spirit of the law. Explain that to the judge on a DUI or speeding ticket. Explain that to the jury on a murder charge that you think was justified.

The rule id there for a reason. IT'S BLACK AND WHITE because it's so clearly spelled out.

Lets talk about spirit vs. letter when reading the Bible, okay?

  • LOL you have to be joking... "what is High in the air" When you can give me a clearly agreed upon definition of "High in the air" we can talk until then you sound like a Homer! PS: if you can justify a Murder to a Jury you go free.

  • Why don't you test Locker to see how high he can throw it in the same way and then we'll talk. I'm sorry you cannot understand the rules. I guess speeding isn't really speeding if it's only 5 MPH over. By the way, talk to OJ about the murder thing.

Newsflash... Washington sucks anyway. That's what a one-man-band does.

  • Real typical, we can always count on the mormons to go to the rulebook for us. I guess that would've been a sin in the state of Utah, throwing the ball at God like that. P.S. congratulations you barely defeated one of the worst teams in Div. 1 history, that says a lot about your team. Kudos to BYU.

  • Dude OU got Jobbed and Lost that game to oregon. The Pac 10 Refs said Oregon recovered an onside kick that an OU player came out of the pile with.

  • Did anybody notice that Locker even switched the ball to his throwing hand to throw the ball high into the air. He was carrying it in his left when he scored.

Just another proof that the refs made the right call.

  • how can people argue the call with that kind of incriminating evidence?

  • Do you have video of BYU WR Collie basically spiking/throwing the ball between his legs after scoring a TD, like as if it were a basketball?

    That was sportsmanlike.....?

  • Did YOU read where Ty Willingham ADMITTED that what jake locker did is something the officials HAVE to call if they see it?

  • Bad call

Saying the refs took the game out of the players hands isn't true though. Washington SHOULD have converted the PAT even with the extra challenge.

  • Even wiothout the 15 vyard penalty BUY would have blocke dthe extra point or stopped the 2 yard conversion. 15 yars at 30 yards or at 10, what;s the diff? BYU blocked it period. That is what decided the game.

  • you guys don't get it. it was a good call hence the rule that says you can't throw the ball in the air. don't say it was a bad call, it wasn't it was a bad rule.

  • ok. but calling it a bad rule is a vast understatement

  • The rulebook says that if you throw the ball into the air it's a penalty. He threw the ball into the air. Ergo, penalty.

Blame the rulebook, not the ref. And these announcers are idiots (like most are). Spiked it behind his head? BS. He threw it straight up.

  • Ahh the refs didn't decide the game. Locker should have dropped the ball and not flipped it up in the air. To boot the entire WU line blocking for the PAT just totally gave up. There's no way a block up the middle should happen. Maybe the guy from the corner unblocked if he is super fast but not up the middle. They still should have made the PAT and went to OT. The players are suppose to know the rules and he obviously didn't. Blame the coach for not making clear to players what the rules are.

  • rules are rules

  • wow that was an A W F U L call, i do not think people should be able to celebrate in the face and make the other team look bad, but that celebration was neither excessive or trying to make BYU look bad, horrible call.

  • uw sucks.

  • What is up with PAC 10 officials? What a horrible call.

  • fucking mormons

    god is for idiots

  • and beer is for lowlife losers like you

  • lowlife??

i'm not the retard that believes in some fucker in the sky

i put people who believe in god with people who believe in bigfoot ...and santa... and the easter bunny

  • Wow someone is really messed up, thunderFence

  • so you blame mormons for the ref throwing the flag on the correct call, makes perfect sense...

  • give me a break nobody blocks a regular mextra point dont act like its all the kickers fault

  • The refs may have gotten the call right, but that doesn't mean the celebration/taunting rule has been called consistently. Take any given game, multiple times per game you'll see two opposing players in each others faces between plays. What do you think they're doing, exchanging cookie recipes?

There's nothing that can be done about this game now, but the NCAA needs to rethink what unsportsman like conduct is.

  • the refs have nothing to do with the outcome of this game. you can look at every play and say it can either make or break the game. are you all forgetting about the two OBVIOUS no calls against washington's offensive line two plays before the touchdown? isn't that the refs fault too? but did byu sit around and blame it on them? no they kept playing.

the actual RULE that the officials were told to have NO leniency on was if you throw the ball more than 25 feet in the air they HAD to call it

  • and secondly, the only one who can be blamed for this loss is the kicker. no doubt about it. that was a horrible kick which was blocked very nicely by BYU. He kicked it way too low and he look way too long to kick it. it was his fault end of story

  • bs. thats it.

when a miami hurricane makes a sack in the first quarter and does a mini celebration, thers no call.

when he celebrates with his team, not taunting, in the dying seconds of the game it gets called. wtf.

  • There is no rule against celebrating with your teammates. But the rules do SPECIFICALLY say that you must drop the ball or throw it to an official, and points out that throwing the ball high in the air is a violation

  • BAAAAAAAAAADDDDDD CAAAAALLLLLLLLL THAT WAS TOTALLY RIDICULOUS. BYU fans thought it was crap too. I was sitten next to em. Its a bunch of 19 and 20 year old kids who are really excited. He didnt throw the ball in the air to taunt BYU. He was just excited. You shouldn't lose the game because of that. And btw all you fags who say its UWs fault on the kick nobody blocks an extra point. call was BS

  • Give me a break. Numerous holding and other penalties by UW during the game that went uncalled (as usual) by the PAC-10 refs. Then, when one call actually goes the other way, everybody from UW fans to biased ESPN commentators to BCS snobs are up in arms.

  • you give me a break. i hate the fuskies but they were ROBBED. stop being retarded. the refs should NOT have called that. washington got ripped off, thats for sure.

and it's pretty clear BYU isn't BCS material. sadly enough, they'll dominate the MWC and probably make it to a BCS game, which they will lose handedly.

  • 2 games into the season isn't enough to tell who isn't BCS material and who isn't.

  • This is obviously the correct call. As ESPN and others have posted the official ruling, what Locker did was obviously against the rules. It doesn't take a physics major to see how high he threw up the ball and how long it took to come back down and land on him and his teammates while they were celebrating.

You can complain about how dumb the rule is all you want, but you can NOT complain about Locker being flagged for what he did. Period.

  • THE REFS GOT IT RIGHT.

The rule is clear, you can't throw the ball high in the air. Watch the video, count the seconds between when he throws the ball and when it comes down. It clearly had to go high in the air.

If you want to "blame" the outcome, blame it on UW committing the penalty, or on BYU blocking the PAT, or the UW kicker kicking it too low. But you cannot blame the refs.

  • 1. According to the rule (read it some time), and guidance by the league to crack down on those breaking that rule, the refs made the right call. After all, he threw the ball up more then 25 feet in the air. If you have a complaint, complain about the rule, not the refs.

    2. The blame really belongs to Washingtons kicker. That was a very low kick. He had the center hash, 30 yards, and he kicked it low. He blew it, and nobody else can possibly be blamed.

  • I'm getting tired of ESPN commentators saying Locker simply gave the ball a little toss over his shoulder. It's obvious he threw it very high!

Also, as said before, the refs DID NOT block the extra point!! The refs did not decide this game.

  • yes they did

    it was a bullshit call

  • The officiating by this PAC10 crew was HORRIFIC! This was actually one of the few correct calls they made - you may not like the rule, but it is there. However they consistently missed holding calls throughout the game ... Huskies got the better of the calls through the game. As to this final play - IT WAS BLOKED! Refs had nothing to do about it.

  • um, are you all forgetting that BYU BLOCKED THE KICK? the players decided their own outcome. the kick was blocked. end of story!

  • Question:

If you don't want a flag on this excessive celebration ruling, why don't you list all of the rules that shouldn't be enforced, and then get all the coaches in the conference to agree that this list shouldn't be called?

If you don't like the rule, then fine. But it is *NOT* the officials' fault.

A play like this has the official's hands tied. They have to call it. If they don't, the other coach has a legitimate beef with why they didn't throw a flag; it's a rule, after all!

  • well, look at it this way. if it wasn't for Jake Locker these guys wouldn't have been in this game or have ANY OFFENSE whatsoever! he's the only bright spot on this offense from what i've watched. receivers dropped SO many catchable balls. he's the heart and soul of this offense and when he's gone, tyrone has NO future.

  • Uh, the ball was HEAVED thirty feet into the air. If he had simple spiked it, no flag, no problem. Get over it Husky fans. It may be a ticky tack rule, but if you don't know the rules of the game and what might cost you a penalty you could always just give the ball to the ref and go celebrate like crazy on the sidelines. UW got what it deserved.

  • actually, spiking it would get teh same 15 yard penalty unless you spike it so hard that it sticks in the ground. Rule 9-2, Article 1(a)(2) asserts that "After a score or any other play, the player in possession immediately must return the ball to an official or leave it near the dead-ball spot." If this doesnt get called in every game, the refs either don't know the rule or they just pay attention after touchdowns

  • Nonetheless, the kids should know the rules before the game and be versed on them. Particularly so that something like that does not happen. Just kneel down, say a prayer or whatever and give the ball to the ref. THEN go act stupid on the sidelines and get ready for OT.
