@ItsValli Good observation. What I think is the reason is that Ilayaraja was 'The Music Director' in all its sense - not just 'Musician' / 'Technician' which unfortunately all of the current generation are. A film's narrative is carried on the shoulder's of both visuals & audio. If one fails, it will fail to impact the viewer. In most of Ilayaraja's films he did an astounding job of strengthening the narrative. Thats why almost all directors except Maniratnam have mostly failed post Ilayaraja.
