right, there has been too much speculation over what this song is about, I'll tell you right now, this song is about people in everyday life who are orsinary and do like, extraordinary things with no credit or very little, it's about idolising ordinary people, he explains the meaning of this song on the VH1 performance :)
This song is about Kurt, its also about himself, its about you, me, him, her, them, and us. Its everyone who can make a difference in peoples lives for the better
only 2 or 3 foo fighters songs are about kurt, one is friend of a friend and another one is let it die(about kurt's and fuckin courtney' relationship), i think there's anoher, don't know which, this one's not about kurt, he even says it in the vh1 storytellers...
@NiKoZeRo2 Let it die is not about kurt, the only foo fighters song that was written about kurt is friend of a friend. Let it die was about relationships between people, along the same sort of lines as "I should have known" is.
Though I do agree with you there, people are always making connections with his songs and say "oh they have to be about kurt.." but this song in particular actually was written about kurt though
stop the b.s. this is art working at its best. whether its lyrics or instruments. knock off the contraversy. Music was made to be listened to and be inspired as well. the song is just a kickass song.

Listen to the opening lines. It's about Kurt. and it's about any ordinary person who does something extraordinary. but Kurt is certainly laced throughout the song.
@nirvanafreako maybe as a "nirvanafreako" you're only projecting what you'd like it to be about, and that's cool. The beauty in music is that something someone says, can be related to by anyone who finds meaning in the words.
Besides, knowing what Kurt died about, and how he felt, to glamorize him in a song like this and knowing how Kurt felt, having been there through Nirvana's success...Dave wouldn't want to make him any more of a martyr than mainstream culture already does.
for some reason I feel like this is a very sad song
