  • Pedro don't give a crap. Take the money and run baby! Hahahahahahaha. The dude says he got most of his money back . What was that , like three hundred bucks? Btw. That looked like Dap that guy used or maybe vinyl mastic.

  • Looks like MR.B did that man that guy was shit for our class.

  • WTF!!

  • I think he used paint to stick it down !!!!!!

  • what the fuck the use for thinset hotmud

  • first time to see using chisel in taking out tiles..lol

  • Nice use of chisel...LOL

  • Fortunately, I submitted a complaint to the NYC Dept of Consumer Affairs and they took care of it. It took about 2 years, but I was able to collect a good portion of the money i blew on this crap job.

  • Bull S**T Get a damn license and insurance , it covers the home owner and your business. And if your a tough guy who thinks your so good that nothing ever goes wrong , youll be the one with the lawsuit...

This crap hes pulling out is all mastic, the whole shower is junk. rip out start over.

  • agree with you !

  • That's pretty much what happened. After I pulled these tiles off (with no effort) I had to re-do the whole thing myself. That contractor took off and never came back.

  • @michaelsdacko Did the guy that you hired go to jail for what he did to you?

  • Bad quality mastic

  • @DRSATANXXX agree with you ....

  • So to become reputable you need to become licensed? Bollocks! In every trade there are always cowboys, people who want to rip you off. Licensed or unlicensed.

  • I said unlicensed and uneducated wannabe contractors! Licensed in and of itself doesn't mean shit, I agree! It's the lack of thorough knowledge that creates these problems. These yahoos go to a HOME DEPOT class on how-to-lay-tile and suddenly they are an expert.

At least with an active license, the consumer has some protection via bond.

As far as "reputable" goes, that takes years of stellar performance and great service!

  • you dont get what you dont pay for, dont try to get the installer cheaper, get the tile cheaper.ill set tile for a doller per foot but dont bitch when somthing happens

  • what the hell does license have to do with any thing regarding doing a quality work & using right material been in installation of flooring 25 years never needed a license. (big man can go suck it) home builders are licensed but they put hard surface on new concrete and house settle's sense you are a installer you now the rest. don't cry because you won't get rich doing flooring you in wrong business, call your congress man and thank Ronald Regan for NAFTA idea. that's what killing prices

  • looks like they used mastic adhesive they should have used thin set mortar and had more of a slope for the water runoff

  • looks like sheet vinyl glue .... should have used mortar

  • Did they use drywall mud as an adhesive?

  • yep bubble gum will do that !

  • 13 yr flooring contractor here, being undercut happens because they don't pay to be lisenced, Ins and Incorperated, not to mention tax exempt, FEIN number, yearly dues!! Us legit contractor HAVE to charge more to cover costs such as this, for a qaulity job as well, if we go the length in being legit you get what you pay for!

  • lisenced is spelled licensed, they should teech u dat in kontractir skool

  • I see this kind if shit all the time in Southern California! Unlicensed and uneducated wannabe tile setters are always undercutting me.

I agree with you, you get what you pay for.

  • ha h ah ah aah aha ha ha aha ha haa ha ha ha ha aha h ha aha ha aha

  • People take note. Ive quoted jobs recently and have been undercut by upto 50%, This is why and how so called pro's can afford to work for peanuts. You get what you pay for. If the price sounds to good to be true.... It is.

  • I am an electrical contractor and have also been under cut by half. I am disgusted but...YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR.

  • i absolutely agree with you, the sweet taste of a cheap job is LONG forgotten after a bitter taste of a cheap job gone wrong, i have no sympathy for people that go for the cheaper tilers and get fucked over, you get what you pay for, you dont pay ford money and expect a ferrari do you, same goes for trades men/women

  • pay peanuts get monkeys

  • I am a master tile craftsman in southern california. I would never use mastic in any type of shower or tub surround. Thinset mortor with an acrylic additive is a sure bet for long term adhesive qualities.

Also, the backerboard is an inferior method for cement backing, the walls, pan, curb and bench should always be cement floated over a lathed and scratched surface!!

This method is the only true and tested way to guarantee long term integrity.

Do the right thing, hire and old-school cratfsman

  • @jonathanstile you can use a modern membrane like ditra or keri with the proper thinset, and installation...cemant backerboard is inferior?? hardiboard?? why so.. its impervious to mositure and mold... again it has to be installed right.. I agree with you on the mastic.... wrong mortar for any tile in a wet area like a shower or bath

  • Well there yours problem they used Mastic instead of thinset mortar, moisture won't let mastic dry ever. You got to use Thinset in showers, bathtubs, jacuzzis, etc. I do tile work and I only use mastic in reas where there won't be moisture.

  • I also noticed that Backer Board was used, It should have been taped with mesh tape and tape coated with thinset.

Go buy a couple bags of thinset, scrape all that mastic off as you go and reset the tiles. problem solved!! Oh yeah SEAL IT AFTERWARDS!

  • First of all, you don't use "LATEX MASTIC" on a sink surface, Mastic is for sticking tiles to sheetrock or painted (WALLS).

Second, it looks like the tile was never sealed.

    Third, Always check references

  • Research how to videos before hiring the contractor. so when he's working, you make sure he's using the products correctly. Pick up the product and read the lable yourself to see if he's doing it right. He works for you. Now you still have to hire the higher bid to fix what the lowest bid screwed up!!!!

Looks like you got what you paid for!

You should add the contractors name to your video. (In case someone else searches for him)

  • also if you dont grout properly and u leave little holes in your grout water and moisture can enter through these and then start popping tiles off.

  • water from entering beneath the tiles anyway. if in a bathroom and its tiled floor to ceiling i allways put a neat clear silicone seal around the bottom jus to help keep water out incase of any settling on the floor in years to come. i have done many many bathrooms and wetrooms like this and for the past 9 years have never had a single job go wrong. i sumtimes go back to do other work in like say 3-4 years and all my jobs still look perfect. tiling is not an easy job. many think it is !!!

  • if its a cement based board and the floor is plywood mostly all of them can be laid by applying a flexible cement based tile adhesive to the back of the board then laying them that way and using a flexible adhesive to tile it. if its a concrete floor then the boards can usually be screwed and rawlplugged but u should never need to use a backing board on a cement floor. i allways use a flexible grout on whatever floor im doing, be it a solid floor or flexible. if its grouted properly it stops any

  • the problem is that he has used a wall tile adhesive that is not waterproof. the grouting also wasnt done properly, hence the water getting under the tiles like that and making the adhesive loosen up again. is a concrete base i think so all he needed to use was a bag adhesive that you mix yourself, like bal cement based or summin like that. if u want to be even more safer you can use a single part flex like bal. also a flexible grout helps to stop the lines from cracking. and is more waterproof

  • not good

  • What's the name of the contractor and company name? How are you helping anyone if you don't supply the names?

  • .

two real scenarios: A and B

    A. its a DIY job gone wrong and hes embarassed.

    B. he hired they contractor/painter whose price was 75% cheaper than anyone else.

Either way is usually a recipe for diaster but sometimes it works. You get what you pay for in the contractor business.

    .

  • What the Hell !!! C'mon this cant be serious . You have to use thinset not mastic on those standing water areas !?! What in the name of construction goofball wierdness Please ! You have to oversee these kind of jobs you cant let people in your house without inspecting the materials they are using ?!! This is out of the question .

  • hey amigo, sorry bout that holmes! me think i know tile. get you on the next one maybe a deck or something!

  • Looks like he confused mayonaise for tile adhesive, this is why I hire based on word of mouth from from people I trust~

  • Should of used latex waterproof mortar especially for the bathroom, lots of moisture in that room

  • Ha1 That guy tooled you for 15k and burned it in his crack pipe!

Have the Judge send him to wiz-quiz and then he'll be off to the pokey. :)

  • man.....15 grand.

get your money back.....then find a local mafia guy & use that money to take out a hit on the buttcheek who calls themself a tradesperson & delivers garbage like that.

but seriously, pursue it through the authorities until they take his license away completely. Imagine the other people who this idiot has done it to & will continue to do it to if you don't stop him.

  • wheres the grout? thats a pile. Why dont you go find the guy responsable and whip his ass

  • i am..... currently working with NYC DCA to get my money back....

  • nice. :o)

  • I dont know what country you live in however, there are Government Agencies in which you can complain about a trade persons licence, when they complete work which is faulty or not to standard. Hope this helps

  • Oh nice. Mastic in a shower. Is there a waterproof liner under that cement board? and if so, how did they attach the cement board without putting holes in it? Looks like a complete rip out to me.

  • Wow, what a complete mess. Im guessing by the apparent glue being wet, that the area was exposed to water???? Hopefully, you have pulled the lot out and replaced it all.

    regards

    wez walker plumbing

  • yup..... i replaced all that shit myself. Meanwhile i paid well over $15,000 for this job when i ended up replacing it myself.

  • OMG. That's awful. It sucks that you can't trust people. I hope you get your money back.
