No, I've seen them try before, and they fail terribly. On the other hand you put a figure skater with good coordination and some practice, I'm pretty damn sure he/she will have little problem playing hockey. Charlie White, and ice dancer, did it! Have I ever seen a hockey player enter a FS competition? Nope. :)

How can you compare hockey and figure skating? They're a two VERY different things. The only relation is that both sports use an ice surface.

I am a Male Figure skater and race all the time at my rink against High School and college hockey players.( Undefeated ) All you have to do is learn to use your toe pick for your as an advantage. Plus I learned how to skate like a hockey player and a speed skater combined also any time we have a spraying competition I win because I have a toe witch helps me spray above the boards. I race with out padding too.
the toe pick has nothing to do with "spraying". lol
to get a good "spray" its all about how the weight is on the blade and the angle of the blade on the ice when the "spray" is executed. hockey players can "spray" just as high as us figure skaters.

Listen, I'm a hockey player, I have no problem with figure skaters but come on, don't compare the sports to eachother. Hockey players can't jump and twirl around in the air and Figure Skaters wouldn't be able to keep up with a Hockey player in a race. (I beat figure skaters in a race everyday, I beat hockey players too but that's not the point.) But I respect all winter sports, even Figure Skating. Both sides are good skaters and you know it.

Im a figure skater, and my brother was a hockey player, he was the 1 the learned me how 2 skate as fast as I do. Not any1 on his team could skate fast, and not any1 I know from figure skating is fast, but you can always find some that is fast in bout of the sports, and some that isn't, it's all about how the skater is ;)
hmm for all those making comments about how hockey is harder than figure skating--i'd like you "hockey" players who only work out once a day for about two hours (since that's all you hockey players seem to be able to handle) skate with the figure skaters who skate for eight hours a day, plus school (most of us skaters have above a 3.5 by the way), then back to skating. and those are just the ones on the lower levels of the sport.

Atleast you guys get breaks and get to catch your breath. Skaters have 3 and 4 minute programs without stopping..while doing jumps, spins, and footwork.
Awesome, 3-4 of one routine then your done for maybe hours? Hockey plays take 1-2 minute shifts, get off for maybe a minute then get back out there again. Figure skating is a sport against imaginary competition. You have to do your best and just hope the next "guy" doesnt show you up. When you have the puck in hockey there are 5 opposing players who can and will knock you on your ass. Figure skating is a lot of gliding around backwards with maybe 8-9 jumps thrown in, its more of ice dancing.
@hckyboy14 Let me see you do fifty jumps in four minutes if you want to prove your point about figure skating being mostly ice dancing. It's not POSSIBLE.. anyway, we do a whole lot more jumps in practice- jump after jump after jump after jump. Fall after fall after fall. We hardly even rest before trying the jump again. Our programs just happen to have less jumps in it because the judges would place us last if it were all jumping.

Hockey player takes a slap shot to the mouth, gets off the ice, gets maybe 10-15 stitches then gets back out there and continues the game. We only have as many pads as we do because other people are knocking us down. You "guys" have no pads because your only enemy is your own coordination and gravity.
Yes but a figure skater is not just jumping around, a figure skating spins in the air and has to land on just one leg. That's why they hurt really bad, if they fall they are still dizzy and the shock is even more powerful, plus their costumes are really tight so they sense the damage way more than a hockey player that has a heavy costume protecting him.

You have your 4 minute session, hockey players have 40-1 minute shifts, on average. Playing an average of 20 minutes a game. They exert a lot more effort accelerating then a figure skater, as figure skaters rarely come to a complete stop. Therefor momentum is on their side. Not to mention, getting checked, falling and getting up. That doesn't hurt? you kidding?
IF a figure skater jumps and falls....they get back up and keep going. Competitive figure skaters have to train every day for hours and they get injured all the time. You also have to have a lot of stamina to be able to do 4 minute programs which include quad and triple jumps and spins...not to mention they have to skate ridiculously fast to be able to cover the ice. Hockey players don't have to skate the entire time they get breaks. Even while they're on the ice sometimes they just stand

People in figure skating fall on there chins and get stitches, the next day they're back on the ice, if there apendix is taken out, they get back on the ice in a week, for hockey. it's not the same. and it takes lots of skill and balance to land one jump or spin a good spin
I find it really hard to believe that hockey players only get a 1 minute break between their time on the ice. What its it like, 25-30 players on a team? Even with injuries, suspensions, and goalies, that's still 3-5 lines of people at 2 minutes per line... that's at least a 4 minute break in between each 2 minutes of play.
Both sports are tough, and neither is going to be able to convince the other either way. Seriously. I cna't believe people still argue over this.

Secondly a figure skater wears nothing but a layer of clothes. Landing a big jump can have as much force as 10 times the skater's body weight. So for me, that's 1,100 pounds of force. Compared to a 200 pound guy..

Hell even some one small like Naziem Kadri could take out any figure skater.

I am specifically talking about a spray when you scratch up the Ice with the toe pick and Ice shards fly up into the air not a hockey stop spray.
But that is true in a hockey spray they can spray just as high but when I use the toe pick I can shatter ice all the way above the boards

ok everyone chill out--they're two different sports, both of which require a ton of athleticism, but in DIFFERENT ways. you can't compare the two--they require different training, different mindsets, that's why they're DIFFERENT sports!

Listen, I'm a hockey player, I have no problem with figure skaters but come on, don't compare the sports to eachother. Hockey players can't jump and twirl around in the air and Figure Skaters wouldn't be able to keep up with a Hockey player in a race. (I beat figure skaters in a race everyday, I beat hockey players too but that's not the point.) But I respect all winter sports, even Figure Skating. Both sides are good skaters and you know it.

I agree with you. I am a figure skater, we are really good at different things. I am a fast skater though. I have a lot of respect for hockey players.

i am a fast figure skater to but i raced a hockey skater and its the baldes thhat make them faster. I was raceing and my toe pick got in teh way and bam! right on my elbow.

Im a figure skater, and my brother was a hockey player, he was the 1 the learned me how 2 skate as fast as I do. Not any1 on his team could skate fast, and not any1 I know from figure skating is fast, but you can always find some that is fast in bout of the sports, and some that isn't, it's all about how the skater is ;)

hmm for all those making comments about how hockey is harder than figure skating--i'd like you "hockey" players who only work out once a day for about two hours (since that's all you hockey players seem to be able to handle) skate with the figure skaters who skate for eight hours a day, plus school (most of us skaters have above a 3.5 by the way), then back to skating. and those are just the ones on the lower levels of the sport.

a lot of figure skaters actually played hockey before. i used to be on a hockey team before i started figure skating. besides any figure skater could kick a hockey players butt concidering you wear tons of padding so u dont hurt yourself, while we just take the pain!!! so yeaa figure sk8ers are 5385933 times better

you have to be MORE athletic for figure skating then for hockey... you try to skate for like 4-5 mins doing insane muscle draining jumps. AND look good doing it! you guys like spit and sweat and stink.. like dont get me wrong hockey is fun to watching.. but come on.. it gets boring! haha id rather sit down and watch figure skating at the olympics then a hockey game.. its all the samE!

WOW are you kidding? Did you actually say you don't need to be athletic and aggressive for figure skating? You actually have to be MORE athletic to figure skate than to play hockey. Atleast you guys get breaks and get to catch your breath. Skaters have 3 and 4 minute programs without stopping..while doing jumps, spins, and footwork.

Awesome, 3-4 of one routine then your done for maybe hours? Hockey plays take 1-2 minute shifts, get off for maybe a minute then get back out there again. Figure skating is a sport against imaginary competition. You have to do your best and just hope the next "guy" doesnt show you up. When you have the puck in hockey there are 5 opposing players who can and will knock you on your ass. Figure skating is a lot of gliding around backwards with maybe 8-9 jumps thrown in, its more of ice dancing.

@hckyboy14 Let me see you do fifty jumps in four minutes if you want to prove your point about figure skating being mostly ice dancing. It's not POSSIBLE.. anyway, we do a whole lot more jumps in practice- jump after jump after jump after jump. Fall after fall after fall. We hardly even rest before trying the jump again. Our programs just happen to have less jumps in it because the judges would place us last if it were all jumping.

I cant believe someone said figure skaters are tougher then hockey players too, Perfect example, Figure skater misses "his" jump and falls on his elbow and the routine is over. Hockey player takes a slap shot to the mouth, gets off the ice, gets maybe 10-15 stitches then gets back out there and continues the game. We only have as many pads as we do because other people are knocking us down. You "guys" have no pads because your only enemy is your own coordination and gravity.

Yes but a figure skater is not just jumping around, a figure skating spins in the air and has to land on just one leg. That's why they hurt really bad, if they fall they are still dizzy and the shock is even more powerful, plus their costumes are really tight so they sense the damage way more than a hockey player that has a heavy costume protecting him.

@Radio1ceCream Both of you are retarded... You can't even compare the two. One, requires more finesse, for sure. Both require stamina. You have your 4 minute session, hockey players have 40-1 minute shifts, on average. Playing an average of 20 minutes a game. They exert a lot more effort accelerating then a figure skater, as figure skaters rarely come to a complete stop. Therefor momentum is on their side. Not to mention, getting checked, falling and getting up. That doesn't hurt? you kidding?

IF a figure skater jumps and falls....they get back up and keep going. Competitive figure skaters have to train every day for hours and they get injured all the time. You also have to have a lot of stamina to be able to do 4 minute programs which include quad and triple jumps and spins...not to mention they have to skate ridiculously fast to be able to cover the ice. Hockey players don't have to skate the entire time they get breaks. Even while they're on the ice sometimes they just stand

Hockey skaters in a public session dislike you because your always spinning and causing a danger to all of us and your always talking shit .. Hockey skaters get damages 2 times as bad as you .. if we get checked into the plastic barrier it kills. You drop because you lack skill

People in figure skating fall on there chins and get stitches, the next day they're back on the ice, if there apendix is taken out, they get back on the ice in a week, for hockey. it's not the same. and it takes lots of skill and balance to land one jump or spin a good spin

I find it really hard to believe that hockey players only get a 1 minute break between their time on the ice. What its it like, 25-30 players on a team? Even with injuries, suspensions, and goalies, that's still 3-5 lines of people at 2 minutes per line... that's at least a 4 minute break in between each 2 minutes of play.
Both sports are tough, and neither is going to be able to convince the other either way. Seriously. I cna't believe people still argue over this.

:) u clearly dont know anything about figure skating. First of all if u miss a jump and fall u still need to continue wearing a smile on ur face. Secondly a figure skater wears nothing but a layer of clothes. Thirdly throwing urself into the air and spinning four times and landing on one foot certainly is much more superior than a hockey player following the puck and wacking it all around the place.

@hckyboy14 We only get off the ice if we badly fracture something. I'd like to see you skate without pads, crashing into the ice is a lot more painful than crashing into another skater. I would know, I have collided with other skaters before when both of us were going very fast.

@otter1119 Last time I checked, ice is a lot harder than a padded up man. Sure, we don't fall much in competition. But we fall more than a thousand times to master a jump.
Landing a big jump can have as much force as 10 times the skater's body weight. So for me, that's 1,100 pounds of force. Compared to a 200 pound guy..

and we also get to skate with hot girls. many people think most male figure skaters are gay, but in truth, isn't it the hockey player who is "gay" because he's the one skating around with a bunch of guys? in figure skating (the only true skating sport) we have the choice of skating with a beautiful girl. imagine--eight hours a day with a hot girl. in hockey, you get two hours a day with sweaty guys who have stinky feet. i'd take skating any day.

That's a stupid, and illogical assumption. First of all we're not skating with a bunch of guys, you don't see us holding hands while playing hockey. The only way that argument could be valid is if in Figure skating, you were to check her into the boards and knock her down in open ice. I suppose you think boxing is gay because two guys are punching each other? No.. I respect Figure Skating but I wouldn't want to do it. So respect Hockey because we're both Winter Sport athletes.
