What they did with SGU was trying to copy stuff from Battlestar Galactica. The endless travel on a rusty ship, the characteristical zooming in space sceenes or the whole soap opera like personal relations etc. It was sold well (very well) in BSG but obviously it didn't serve the SG climate and so it went down... I liked it anyways (SG fan so no wonder ;]) but i think Atlantis was much better. Anyways - both shows went down sooner than they should...

I couldn't agree more. SGU and SGA both could have gone much longer. SGA had loose ends with the fate of Ford (who is totally alive) and the war with the Wraith. SGU was a copy of Battlestar Galactica and Star Trek Voyager but I still liked it a lot. I thought the idea of exploring a new galaxy each season was great.

SG Universe is what happens when the fans get ignored, we move on, they should have taken pointers from Star Trek, they listens to the fans made a few movies after the series and the rest in history and the holders of the sci fi record for total shows/spin off/movies Even half of another Atlantis season would have been better then both season of SGU and to think of the money saved :)

The opening for SG1 was ponies for an hour and the producers went on a feminist kick telling us how Major Carter was important even though she was a woman. Absolutely boring and absolutely horrible. At least SGU gave me something to feed the mind with instead of drivel in the opening episode. It's television so it's preference

@okami1101 I think that was the problem though, what made the SG 1/A great isn't in Universe. It alienated Stargate fans and might have survived longer if not named Stargate. Also the characters weren't as likable. SGA's story was good, but McKay and Sheppard made Atlantis live as long as it did. In fact I think one of the reasons the series didn't survive as long as it could have was the constant change in supporting cast ie. Elizabeth Wier and Carson Beckett.

I think it may have been more of a "it would be nice to do a SGA movie" and more of a "maybe the fans will forgive us if we tell them we'll start doing movies for SGA."
