  • I tried this last weekend but I was in Chicago and I couldn't get anywhere that had fresh fish or lemons. Instead I used orange juice and a can of tuna. It didn't work out so well and the room service people laughed at me when I asked for the seasoning and told them what i was doing :(

  • LOL..... "Exactly 4 MINUTES! Why? I have no idea; it was a pure guess!" Classic

  • im wondering if you can take the skin off the salmon before you put it in the cup

  • haha yur so smart looks like your cooking a maruchan though XD

  • What a clever little pumpkin you are! Talk about inventiveness....

  • wow Chef you are like the Macgyver of cuisine becuase you just took a simple everyday appliance and turned it into a culinary machine of perfection.

  • very creative!

  • I think you need a whole series of stuff you can make in a hotel room with a coffeemaker.

  • Nice one Chef John!

  • such a clever way to cook salmon. you are truly amazing.

  • LOL damn chef john just mcgyvered that salmon! looks delicious!!

  • lol, reminds me of the cook fish in the dishwasher recipe

  • genius

  • it's like instant noodles , haha .

  • so clever. amazing video

  • No offense to the muslims, I love you guys but seriously- every single cooking video on youtube has the same 20 muslim guys asking what they can use instead of (insert something here). It isn't a Chef's job to go out and remake every dish to see what can be replaced in their dishes- thats your job. If you don't want to use pork, then try chicken. If you don't want to use chicken, try tofu. If you dont want to use tofu, then use groundhog meat. No substitute will taste the same.

  • @harmonem muslim? don't you mean vegetarians

  • Watching you make this fish reminded me of the girl that went fishing with seven guys, She came home with a big red snapper........................

  • Well done ChefGuyver! :D

  • McGuyer of food prep...

  • Ok I read it, lol I kinda guessed this reply. so typical Chef John. haha so much fuss over something so trivial? Chef John love your videos and humor! You rock!

  • Nice, but think I would prefer the salmon raw. Maybe you could cook 2 minute noodles in the coffee maker next time :-)

  • what was Chef Johns reply for changing the pork to beef dishes lol I'm Muslim too and the question was silly but I guess innocent. BUT I WANT TO KNOW CHEF JOHN's answer Please please tell me

  • @xMrCustom24x funny

  • Nice, though I'd have eaten it raw.

  • Very cool!

  • My food wish is something you can do with peanut butter

  • That was so great! I used to live in the Seattle/Bellevue area some time back and did saw the Pike's Place couple of times, but one thing I never saw was the famous fish tossing that happens at the Pike's Place. Did you saw it?

  • That is really innovative! Healthy too :D

  • Lovely...but I would have just shoved it all into my gaping maw, raw! Still, what you did looks beautiful. Beautiful!

  • cinnamon buns chef i told u cinnamon bunzzzzzz lol =D

  • I stayed in city hostel seattle (they had a small kitchen) and also made king salmon! i was surprised to find it cost 20 bucks a pound, but it came out oh so awesome :) I made it in a ton of melted butter with some of my trusty seasoning mix I bring everywhere with me and some fresh herbs. It was awesome, I recommend getting salmon if you're up in seattle -- and make sure you get it from the gangsta place (the 3rd pic in the video) SO GOOD

  • cowboy

  • Only chef john can make a fine looking dish out of a coffee kit lol

  • Wow... Id be nervous that it wouldnt be cooked enough (with my skills) how can you tell when the salmon is fully cooked? Just by the colour change I assume? Should it be slightly flakey or tender?

  • @xMrCustom24x Wrong again. Try again and make it count this time.

  • thats easy

  • you should make a variation on your program called:

    ghetto food wishes

  • @MilfHuntah YES! ghetto food wishes sounds amazing LOL I have even coined my cooking style as "ghetto delicious" :)

  • hahaha you people crack me up... yeah, muslims, change religion. and also, catholics, remember that you can`t eat pork on fridays. so you should also consider deconvertion.

i`m a vegetarian. and also atheist. i feel offended by your stupid questions about pork and you being a member of any religion. i`m waiting for apologies. leave chef john alone.

  • that is cool!

  • Very clever!!

  • @xMrCustom24x poached you idiot.

  • cool food and hotel hack

  • if left alone in a hotel room, starving, with only a filet of salmon, a lemon, some tarragon, salt, pepper, water and a coffee maker, this is what macgyver would do.

  • awesome... :O

  • Isn't there any smell in the room?

  • And it goes well with a nice cup of steaming cold salmon-estragon tea *zip* yum!

  • mmmmm...with drizzle of EVOO will be nice, too. ;-q

  • LMFAO XD. You just hacked a hotel room and its coffee maker XD

  • i just watch this just to see the food

  • ok.. thats wiki wiki wirdeO.O

  • For all you people who are so sensitive about the answers you get here, I really don't think this channel is for you. I'm not naming names, but all of you who have had any negative comments about anything Chef John has said since becoming "famous" I think you should unsubscribe. But I do have a solution for you. Jolene Sugarbaker. Check out her channel. I think you will be a lot happier over there. In her latest video SHE asks the questions!

  • YOU'RE. SO. CREATIVE. PERIOD.

    What the moly!

  • Cook something with an Xbox 360

  • @krhysthy22 As hot as the thing gets you can probably poach eggs top of it

  • @krhysthy22 Hero _0_

  • @krhysthy22 yea because xboxes heat up enough to cook a turkey.

  • @Havokx21 with the red ring of death yeah. haha

  • Chef ur are amazing I've done a few of ur recipes and I loved them.

  • I don't get all this controversy in the commentaries... To me it just looks like a whole lot of people lost a couple of chromosomes...

Anyway John, i think this video was in fact quite genius. As all people know (if they've handled fish) salmon is hard to mess up. You only need a few touches and the delicious meat and your ready. That is not the brilliance in this video, your creative way of carrying the dish out with scarce resources is. Inspiring.

    Best wishes / Swedish Subscriber.

  • wow- so much talk about this alleged rude comment that i had to see what it was. total waste of time spent looking it up. people are all up in arms for no reason. geez. case in point- the guy chef john said this to is still subcribed to this channel. if he can take a joke, what is everyone elses problem? lighten up people. that was not an insult. it was a very innocent joke. and pretty funny. and if you are that serious...you should unsubscribe

now on to the food- very creative idea chef! :)

  • Thought he's going to put the salmon into kettle.

  • cook with a car engine

  • i took some LSD and walked around pike place market. the fish where still breathing WOW!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @anarcyXarsonist. He's talking about the chicken stock vid. O_O

  • that's one way to impress a beautiful girl in a hotel room. thanks chef john.

  • It's almost like making Ramen, just, you know, a whole lot better.

  • wait WTH!! you were in my state and you didnt hit me up?? wow chef John.... :/

  • 12 HOURS? I DON'T HAVE 12 FUCKIN HOURS.

  • @AcceptMe what are you talking about?

  • These people with no humor must be from Europe <----- Thats a joke too btw!

  • Chef John, I hope you dont block comments again because of people that have to find something to gripe about. Say something nice and they'll think of something wrong with it. Along with your vids, informative feedback from your fans help too.

  • That's amazing!! You ROCK!!!

  • That looks really good!

But one question... didn't your room smell like fish the rest of the day?

  • ur the MacGyver of the chef world

  • Hahaha the comments from random people on here are like a comment battle. Its funny. But, I was really amazed by your thought to even attempt them. Great idea, great job and I'm actually interested in attempting this.

  • Super cool and innovative!

  • Wow! That's amazing Chef John! :)

  • lol i can't believe ppl are taking that sarcastic comment chef john made so seriously. i'm muslim and i thought it was funny.

  • CONGRATS ON WINNG THE CONTEST CHEF JOHN!!! CAN'T WAIT TO SEE YOU ON FOOD NETWORKS

  • Just tried it out right now! Its was FUCKING AWESOME!

  • Thats pretty awesome

  • well i think a little bit of sarcasm will makes him what he is today not you fags commenting about his comment its just a crappy joke.

  • @SealDogification Its because that joke was not on you, he shouldn't have commented something that sensitive. I don't think you realize the magnitude of this situation. Just because he was telling a joke doesn't give him the authority to say whatever he wants! What if you said,"My mom doesn't cook salmon, what are some other substitutes? " and Chef John said, "you're going to have tell your dad to divorce with your mom and marry a new one ." What would you say?
