@supermanxd12 I think a 4.0 upgrade is likely at some point in the next 3 months (depending on when Google releases the source code), officially or unofficially.
Alright... 43 or 70? 43 is much more pocketable, much more handheld, which is kinda what im looking for. On the other hand the 70 has capacative touch screen wich allows for better gaming so any1 want to make up my mind?
I have an Archos 5, its crap! Constantly crashes and have a stuck pixel in the center of the screen. Warranty is worthless, customer service will not help me. Only had unit for 2 months and warranty is worthless!!!
@strungoutontech Archos 70 IT is more pocketable than Samsung Galaxy Tab. Archos is lighter, thinner and more compact. About 99.5% of the apps in Google Marketplace work as well on Archos as on Samsung as a very small minority of apps absolutely require a backfacing camera, compass or 3G/AGPS to work.

@Charbax Not any more. Galaxy Tab is now $350 wifi version. Galaxy tab has 512 mb of memory for apps. The front and rear facing camera that work with video chat applications. Ships with full android market. More responsive, faster, better screen.
@strungoutontech Archos is still nearly half the price, Archos was $250 9 months ago, is thinner, lighter, fits better in jacket pockets, has kick-stand, has real HDMI, real USB host, real video codecs support, you can install full Google Marketplace on Archos in about 2 seconds, Archos is just as responsive, just as fast, both have same class processor, RAM does not matter for Android as multi-tasking pauses background apps in any case. Better screen, that's only if you do not care its heavier.
@Charbax 512 of memory obviously matters. You know this as well as I. Archos gets quickly bogged down with multiple tasks. Its ok if you don't mind constantly killing apps with an app that kills apps. There are dozens of cases for most electronic devices that have kick stands built in. The size and weigh difference between the two are slight. 11 oz to 13 oz for the tab. Codec support is good for both. Archos is much more unstable, just look at reviews around the web. Nice try.

@Charbax I would almost buy an Archos 70 but it has a pretty poor build quality and like all Archos products it is unreliable and unpredictable. On the positive like you say, its at least 75$ cheaper than the Galaxy tab. You get what you pay for.

@iTailsTheStunter I've had no problems with my apple products and love the apple products I own. I don't like microsoft what so ever... Android seems to be really nice. I'm definitely giving this a try.
@Darkhoster Don't get me started. I live in Canada and you can bet this thing will be $350 or something here if you can even find the thing. I feel a trip to the U.S. coming on.
Hey guys i was just wondering, with the tegra 2 chip coming out is it worth buying this now, i really like this product and am anticipating its release in the states but it it worth getting, please let me know
@blackutube1 Onlæy using VOIP apps such as Fring, Nimbuzz, Truphone, Google Voice, SIP droid, eventually when official Skype comes to Android and more such apps. This way calling on Archos tablets can actually be much cheaper than using regular phones, in fact calling can be free.
@EternalComos he is saying there are hacks on the internet that allow you to manually add the Android market. It's not supported, but the hack will make it work.
@gcysne You will very probably be able to install the full Google Marketplace on this device easily by finding the right market4archos.apk file on the Internet after this tablet has been released. Follow the ArchosFans forums for that.
Actually, release date is pushed back, 1st-15th November as commented by some online stores that had it on pre-order. J&R and Amazon.com removed pre-order pages, had too much orders. Amazon.de accepts orders for 101/70 but ther's no accurate release date.
@mcninjah it might get driver for that on its USB host port. Otherwise you can do 3G using a Mifi adapter or using Bluetooth tethering with any compatible mobile phone with such BT and data plan.
@AnnaMishel Yes, but over WiFi or Bluetooth, using either a Mifi adaptor (available below $100 unlocked in some markets) or using a Bluetooth mobile phone with a data plan and bluetooth tethering support. But then the phone calls probably have to be VOIP based using SIP or Skype like protocols if those apps are available on Android. What this means, you can make perhaps much cheaper phone calls than with a normal phone.
I am very impressed with archos and the new line they have just relased to the press. It is about time that they hit the mark. I hope that they can make updates a regular thing and hope that the support is there. This is a great choice for everyone that is looking for the ipad alternative or to get into the android scene. For the price it is very nice and is impressive.
I am ssoooo disappointed with the new Archos tablets.. I've been waiting months for them to come out.. Out of the 5 tablets they're releasing, there is no 3G or 4G internet capability.. and there is no GPS... Even the Archos 5 internet tablet had the option for GPS.. Why did they drop this functionality in the next generation? WHY Charbax, WHY??!
@xphobus That's fine and dandy, but at least some of these tablets should have it built in to the tablet itself, and not require it as an "add on".. ESPECIALLY considering the previous archos 5 had GPS..
@Gangularis Fast GPS requires 3G modem inside, otherwise GPS lock down is very slow, takes about 30 seconds. If Archos makes a 3G version of any or all of these (that can happen if any carrier buys into the idea), then there will be A-GPS 3G assisted GPS on those.
This isn't going to access cell networks. It's basically a super-sized android media player which is exactly what I want. I just hope it can access ad-hoc networks and see my droid's wireless tether network. Finally something that isn't so big I can't easily carry it around, or so small that it isn't viable as a decent e-reader.
i'm in trouble !!! i can't decide if it's better this (7 inches) or the 10.1 inches model ... the weigth is so low in both models and the main difference is only the dimension
This is the Android 2.2, it supports Adobe Flash 10.1. Could you make a video on YouTube to act? I would like to know also what web browser, this encompasses. How much does this cost in the euro currency?
this time it look very nice for archos : price, android 2.2, hdmi, usb, divx, mkv, camera it's beautiful .... hope there is not bugs & that they are going to be out quickly.
What features does this one lack? Samsung has GPS and is pretty much a big phone right? I'd like to see GPS but this looks like a good product for not a lot of money!

On the archos 70, using the micro SD card, what are the storage options?
AnnaMishel 1 year ago
It support flash?
alistassio 1 year ago
@alistassio Yes around launch in October Android 2.2 should be ready for it and support full flash 10.1.

Can this archos use 3g usb modem? Thanks.
mcninjah 1 year ago
@mcninjah it might get driver for that on its USB host port. Otherwise you can do 3G using a Mifi adapter or using Bluetooth tethering with any compatible mobile phone with such BT and data plan.

Can't decide if I should buy either the 70 or 101 archos or just wait for the gingerbread tablets
elink04 1 year ago
can you make phone calls?
AnnaMishel 1 year ago

@charbax, how crisp is the 800x480 screen on that? compared to a gen 3 ipod touch?

I am ssoooo disappointed with the new Archos tablets.. I've been waiting months for them to come out.. Out of the 5 tablets they're releasing, there is no 3G or 4G internet capability.. and there is no GPS... Even the Archos 5 internet tablet had the option for GPS.. Why did they drop this functionality in the next generation? WHY Charbax, WHY??!
Gangularis 1 year ago
@Gangularis you use a bluetooth gps receiver working with a app called bluetooth gps or receiver and have gps :)
xphobus 1 year ago
@xphobus That's fine and dandy, but at least some of these tablets should have it built in to the tablet itself, and not require it as an "add on".. ESPECIALLY considering the previous archos 5 had GPS..
Gangularis 1 year ago
@Gangularis i want to see how would you hold a 7 inch or 10 inch ! tablet very close to the front car glass so the gps signal wont get lost
#LOL
xphobus 1 year ago
@Gangularis Fast GPS requires 3G modem inside, otherwise GPS lock down is very slow, takes about 30 seconds. If Archos makes a 3G version of any or all of these (that can happen if any carrier buys into the idea), then there will be A-GPS 3G assisted GPS on those.

@Charbax Ok, thanks for answering, and thanks for taking all of those vids! I lurk around your forums a lot, but have not registered.

@lofty

@ILMORUZ i'm having this problem as well
should i go for the more portable one
or go for the ultimate touch experience....
i'm sure i would be happy with either one!
just the decision!!

This is the Android 2.2, it supports Adobe Flash 10.1. Could you make a video on YouTube to act? I would like to know also what web browser, this encompasses. How much does this cost in the euro currency?

Why does the Samsung Galaxy cost so much more?
What features does this one lack? Samsung has GPS and is pretty much a big phone right? I'd like to see GPS but this looks like a good product for not a lot of money!
LoftyCuber 1 year ago
Because the Galaxy is 3G and the price is being jacked up by the cell phone carriers.
