i saw spazz, trixie, trudie, alice bag and terry bag. i remember they threw trixie off the set for busting in and ruining a take when she screamed 'where are the fucking donuts?" this is when people starting coming around trying to get a look at "punk rock" what happened to spazz?
This TV show nearly killed me. I was in the hospital recovering from an emergency appendectomy when it came on the TV in my room. I laughed so hard I about split my stitches open. I was in serious pain but I couldn't stop laughing.
I remember seeing this on live TV. I went out and bought the Dickies EP the very next day. Then saw them open for 999 at a black baptist church in north st louis in March of '80. Still luv the Dickies (and of course, Don Rickles) to this day...
@sharpasaneraser If you could only see my tears. A great man once said, "Can't we all just get along?" That man was Rodney King. I cry for you, Sharpeareraser. I pray for your soul.
I wish more of this episode was shown! It was hilarious! The leader of the pogoers got mad at the sailors and said "Come on punks" to his friends, like he was the leader of a gang on West Side Story. Too funny :D
Wahay! Great clip - it was brave of the producers to use them, I can't imagine a 1970s british sitcom letting a punk band loose in the studio :) Thanks for posting!
i FINALLY FOUND KID CONGO, THAT'S HIM IN THE PURPLE JACKET. THE DICKIES GOT SIGNED ON THE STRENGTH OF THIS PERFORMANCE , AND THAT THEY WERE ALREADY DOING TV , SOMETHING A&M 'S REPS IN ENGLAND COULD'NT FORESEE.
It's funny how some of us in our 20's make fun of old dances like the Fly, the Hustle, and the cockroach stomp dance. But some of today's dances aren't that much better, like the Bird Walk and the Souljah Boy dance.
I used to watched this show when Comedy Central channel first came out of the scene. Comedy Central used to show a lot of oldies show like Sargeant Bilko, Car 54 Where are you, Machales Navy, CPO Sharkey, The Adams Family, etc. I miss it.
Before comedy central was comedy central, but rather the comedy network they ran CPO Sharkey along with Soap, The Odd Couple, Car 54, and reruns of SCTV. I used to watch. This way before TV Land in 1990.
I'm an old man now. I saw this when it originally aired in '78, and never forgot it. This was the only sitcom of that time whose producers had even a faint idea of what punk was, or how to present it. It's an amazing thing to see now, 30 years later. Thanks for posting it.
It's called a cycle of shows that have been off the air for 10 years or longer. When Nick at Nite first aired, they showed alot of reruns of Green Acres, My Three Sons, Beverly Hillbillies, and the like. But with the years dwindling on and it being the 21st century, now sitcoms from the 80's and 90's are considered classics. It wouldn't be surprising if shows like Martin, Living Single, Friends, and Seinfeld began appearing on Nick At Nite within the next decade.
-well u predicted right about Friends being on Nick at Nite. The problem is Nick at Nite has totally lost it's identity. Gone is the creative packaging and quirky humor that used to make the network almost pop art tv.Now it is just one slab of reruns after another that you could just as easily see on any WGN superstation. The problem with networks getting money is that they don't have to be creative anymore.
@20carrocks Actually, it was rerun on Comedy Central, or HA! a few years back. In their punkish tone, they got rid of it by saying, "You're rude, you're obnoxious, you're outta here!" They ran all of the episodes and dropped it. Following the way of many genre networks, they ran vintage shows (Camp Runamuck, Ernie Kovacs), then developed new shows and got rid of the old one.
For those who want to know, the female "pogo-er" winds up enlisting, with Sharkey's help.

I wish CPO Sharkey would come out on DVD or run on Nick at Nite.

Yeah I don't know why they insist on replaying the same stupid early 90's shows like Fresh Prince over and over again.

@trapadoored Hence why I said it wouldn't surprise me. Even TV Land is showing sitcoms that have only been off the air for 7 or 8 years.

@jcjh20 I refuse to believe any one could honestly think this was any better than 'Fresh Prince'.
