It doesn't make any sense what some of you are saying. Let me try to explain. If a chihuahua attacks me, the damage is minimal. If a pit bull attacks me, the results could be devastating, maybe even fatal. Why is it so hard for people to understand that? I'm not saying ban pit bulls, but hold the owner's accountable for their dog, with heavy heavy fines and maybe even jail time if they fail to contain/control their dogs.

You're right that some dogs are more aggressive than others. My landlady allows dogs to stay in the rooms she rents out (there are five rooms in the house and she rents out four of them and lives in one of the herself). However she said she will never rent it out to someone who has a Pit Bull of Rottweiler. It's just too dangerous.

If you look at the stats, even though people say Pitbulls are trained to be dog aggressive, not people aggressive the numbers are huge. Also, about 80% of the time, the shocked owner of the Pitbull gets injured when he/she tries to stop them and then their beloved pet turns on them. However, I think the problem is breed definition, no one even really knows what a REAL Pitbull is any more.

i use to just test the stun gun at rottweilers and other breeds and they get scared and run away from their fence,but pits dont back down as easy,which is why aggressive pits must be killed.Those pits i use to walk by were so crazy they would ran into they fence and it didnt even hurt them,there was a metal bar below the fence and they ran into it repeatedly,they also tried to chew the fence apart,i hate pits that behave this way.now pits are illegal in my county,not city,the entire county.
i love good pits but i hate bad ones,i use to work in a animal control kennel,so i know.when i was a teen i had a stun gun and use to shock these pits at a business i use to walk by at night,the dogs are so crazy that a stun gun to their mouth doesn't slow them down just made them more vicious;so one night i took my machete and stabbed one of those demons right in the mouth though the hole in the fence.There were 2 pits at the kennel that i loved.Names were Showtime &Princess both gray&white.
Most people are NOT responsible enough to own a dog or have a kid.....it is not surprising that these things happen. You have a choice own a dog for protection or a gun. I trust over a burglar alarm and I like the fact that she has a great sense of smell and hearing. Nothing gets by her and so there is no element of surprise. Owning a gun without having a warning of an intruder is worthless! All dogs need training and more training...they can't just be locked in the yard and ignored!

I live in Massachusetts.. Here you can't get home owners insurance if you own an aggressive breed, including German Shepards, rottweilers, dobermans, pitbulls and wolf hounds. The insurance companies don;t want to take the risk. And if you lie to them and someone gets bit, the dog gets destroyed, you get sued, and then go to jail for insurance fraud. Nice!

this news story is completely,,fraud..other news have showed this story and this news media left so many gaps out..and did not speak on this attack clearly..the girl was walking her dog the mother was also there..the old lady walked towards them and wanted to pet the dog..the dog did not want to be petted..the owner said the dog simply backed away from her but the old lady still wanted to pet him.. the dog felt annoyed and threatened. the girl lost hold of him and he attacked..people stay away..

Theres a difference between a feral wild animal and a domesticated canine. I agree that some dogs are simply unstable. This is often caused by bad breeding. That isn't the fault of any breed. In that case it isn't the fault of the owner either. It's the fault of the breeders. Usually back yard breeders and puppy mills.

Ya know collies use to be a REALLY popular breed. People thought their long faces were charming. Breeders began breeding for longer faces. Eventually their heads were to oblong and their skulls were to small for their brains. They became very aggressive. This is the day the idiots met. None of the owners should ever own a dog (of any breed again). There is obviously more to be said about this incident. The media needs to step up and talk unaltered dogs, chaining and socialization. The trilogy of dog attacks.
i agree ive owned many APBT and they have the best temperment ive seen the one i own now gets along great with my border collie and they said the dog broke off the leash. ive never left my dogs out on a leash im not saying its wrong im just saying that if dogs do not get enough human contact they become human aggresive 98% of the time so mabye it had a reason for breaking off the leash the news reporter obviously didnt care they just wanted a good story for a good paycheck

It doesn't make any sense what some of you are saying. Let me try to explain. If a chihuahua attacks me, the damage is minimal. If a pit bull attacks me, the results could be devastating, maybe even fatal. Why is it so hard for people to understand that? I'm not saying ban pit bulls, but hold the owner's accountable for their dog, with heavy heavy fines and maybe even jail time if they fail to contain/control their dogs.

You're right that some dogs are more aggressive than others. My landlady allows dogs to stay in the rooms she rents out (there are five rooms in the house and she rents out four of them and lives in one of the herself). However she said she will never rent it out to someone who has a Pit Bull of Rottweiler. It's just too dangerous.

If you look at the stats, even though people say Pitbulls are trained to be dog aggressive, not people aggressive the numbers are huge. Also, about 80% of the time, the shocked owner of the Pitbull gets injured when he/she tries to stop them and then their beloved pet turns on them. However, I think the problem is breed definition, no one even really knows what a REAL Pitbull is any more.

i use to just test the stun gun at rottweilers and other breeds and they get scared and run away from their fence,but pits dont back down as easy,which is why aggressive pits must be killed.Those pits i use to walk by were so crazy they would ran into they fence and it didnt even hurt them,there was a metal bar below the fence and they ran into it repeatedly,they also tried to chew the fence apart,i hate pits that behave this way.now pits are illegal in my county,not city,the entire county.

i love good pits but i hate bad ones,i use to work in a animal control kennel,so i know.when i was a teen i had a stun gun and use to shock these pits at a business i use to walk by at night,the dogs are so crazy that a stun gun to their mouth doesn't slow them down just made them more vicious;so one night i took my machete and stabbed one of those demons right in the mouth though the hole in the fence.There were 2 pits at the kennel that i loved.Names were Showtime &Princess both gray&white.

Most people are NOT responsible enough to own a dog or have a kid.....it is not surprising that these things happen. You have a choice own a dog for protection or a gun. I trust over a burglar alarm and I like the fact that she has a great sense of smell and hearing. Nothing gets by her and so there is no element of surprise. Owning a gun without having a warning of an intruder is worthless! All dogs need training and more training...they can't just be locked in the yard and ignored!

It is true that Delises figures are lower regarding pitbulls.The statistics I referred to are from Merrit Clifton,which I find more credible.Delises study is an independent one,and she does have a clear pro-pitbull agenda (just look at her website).Cliftons study is used by governmental departments.
Still,even if Delise was right (which she is not),and pits were responsible for 21% of human fatalities,it is still horrible,considering that they account for 2-3% of the U.S.dog population.

I live in Massachusetts.. Here you can't get home owners insurance if you own an aggressive breed, including German Shepards, rottweilers, dobermans, pitbulls and wolf hounds. The insurance companies don;t want to take the risk. And if you lie to them and someone gets bit, the dog gets destroyed, you get sued, and then go to jail for insurance fraud. Nice!

this news story is completely,,fraud..other news have showed this story and this news media left so many gaps out..and did not speak on this attack clearly..the girl was walking her dog the mother was also there..the old lady walked towards them and wanted to pet the dog..the dog did not want to be petted..the owner said the dog simply backed away from her but the old lady still wanted to pet him.. the dog felt annoyed and threatened. the girl lost hold of him and he attacked..people stay away..

It is a great breed and beautiful but boy when it turns on you or your loved ones, I dont know what to think if you will still hold that same excuse. my pitty is well trained and as harmless as any other dog. she's amazing. the dogs that do attack are treated badly. it has nothing to do with being a pit bull. it's all in how they are treated. y'know how firemen are always seen with dalmatians? they are one of the most ill tempered breeds. worse than pits. and have a temper trigger that would make any pit seem docile. stop listening to the media and learn for yourself!

Theres a difference between a feral wild animal and a domesticated canine. And its stupid people that usually want pit bulls because of their "macho" look and reputation, and because they dont know a damn thing about dogs they end up neglecting the animal and adding to negative statistics. People dont realize that there is more to abuse then just beating the animal. Confinement can cause frustration levels to rise and therefore can cause aggression. Thats just one example.

that is bullshit... I fought a pitbull one month ago, when I was just walking home. It just started running/barking at me, then I used my backpack as a shield. You don't know how much I wanted to kill that thing because I've fought so many many fucken dogs. I don't tease them or anything - I swear.

APBT's are the only breed specifically bred for NON-human aggression (handlers in dog fighting rings had to work closely with pits that were over-stimulated for a fight, so any sign of human aggression, and the dog would be killed on the spot.)I'm glad you got out of that one though. I agree that some dogs are simply unstable. This is often caused by bad breeding. That isn't the fault of any breed. In that case it isn't the fault of the owner either. It's the fault of the breeders. Usually back yard breeders and puppy mills.

always an excuse for this breed/dog...why i am sure there are bad breeders for all breeds...but other breeds seem not to maim so many and kill a handful of people each year...there at least need to be mandotory insurance requirements to own this dog and simular ones like it, known to mame and kill. huge fines/jail time if you don't get insurance. and if your dog actually attacks someone and seriously gets hurt off to jail you go...owners are 100% responsiable for the dog. no excuses!!!

Ya know collies use to be a REALLY popular breed. People thought their long faces were charming. Breeders began breeding for longer faces. Eventually their heads were to oblong and their skulls were to small for their brains. They became very aggressive. Its because pit bulls are an extremely popular breed that bad breeding has had such a devistating effect. People breed them to BE aggressive (because aparently it's kool). It isnt in the original nature of the breed.

pit bulls are not born 2 kill cmon..i had two for over 5 years and they were good with kids and not vicious at all..its the owners not the breed..you can easily raise a rott or just a mutt to kill..the media just loves to cover pits because they invoke fear and what makes people watch the news? just count how many murders, drug busts, serial rapists, killer bees, shark attacks etc start off the news

i agree ive owned many APBT and they have the best temperment ive seen the one i own now gets along great with my border collie and they said the dog broke off the leash. ive never left my dogs out on a leash im not saying its wrong im just saying that if dogs do not get enough human contact they become human aggresive 98% of the time so mabye it had a reason for breaking off the leash the news reporter obviously didnt care they just wanted a good story for a good paycheck
