never had a problem w/ 2.4 ghz. i have 4 planes, all with AR500 and AR6200 full range receivers. maybe you were using park, non full range receivers.
For the flaps you can just use two servo's, the linkages and the control horns, plus something to hinge the flap itself with. You can also do it with one servo using flexible control wire and the servo sat in the middle.
No tips for this machine really, just enjoy! She really does fly beautifully. The one thing i would say is upgrade to a good radio like a DX6i and it'll make a good plane even better.
Stay away from 2.4 ghz, lost 2 planes because of it..
