This movie was made in 1949 and Webb and Morgan became such good pals that Webb invited Morgan to appear in two radio episodes of "Dragnet" during the film production. Morgan, however, does not play a cop in any of them--he plays a hotel clerk in one of them.
Harry Morgan is a Show Business Legend. he is perfectly beleiveable as everything from a Crewman in the Air Force in an old Jimmy Stewart-June Allyson movie, to playing the judge in a 1960 court room drama, to Playinmg a Detective in Dragnet. His role of Colonel Sherman Potter was MINT ! MASh didn't really become Mash until Colonel Potter/ Harry Morgan showed up. Potter had Kahunas of Solid Rock ! He's great as the Tough , Caring Daddy Bear to the whole cast. They needed Potter to lean against.
I just watched Harry's archive interview on U-Tube. He had nothing but kind words for every actor he worked with. Please pass on my good wishes to him.
Jack and Harry had "shared the mike" on several "DRAGNET" radio episodes during this period...when the time came to find a new partner for Sgt. Friday in the 1967-'70 series, Webb knew WHO the perfect replacement would be....

I really think Jack Webb bears an alarming resemblance to Keanu Reeves.

This is like an episode of the 'Twilight Zone'. Sgt. Friday and Officer Gannon meet their dark twins, or something. Culture shock!
I always knew Morgan ws good, but Webb shows some acting range here - he is like one of the criminal punks he would be arresting on 'Dragnet'.

@FrankLJ I really like your Twilight reference. It's a really good analogy.

Wouldn't you just love to punch Jack Webb out for beating Harry with his own baby's bronze shoe? I always knew Webb needed a good beatin'!

What a great clip! I've never seen Morgan or Webb like this. And beaten with the baby shoe - cold. Just cold.
