From what I experienced, I really can't say that they are lazy. In my opinion, there is nothing wrong with their working moral. Education however, like most third world country not everyone can afford school. But this is a discussion that could take hours. :)

This is a problem. From GDP Thailand is on place 25. In front of a few western european countries like Portugal. But it is so unfair distributed. You have the people in Bangkok making 3000 Euro after tax. and farmers in the rural areas living on 65 Euro/Monat. Thailand is an agriculture based economy, and it is hard to get rich that way. They are hardworking, but perhaps not as driven as the Singaporeans, Japanese, Koreans, Hong Kongers who are more driven than Americans. Some parts of Bangkok are more modern than second tier cities in USA or Europe. Although on the whole the country is not first world.

Patong is nothing compared to pattaya, you think the ping pong shows are disgusting? take a visit to pattaya and go to some of the hardcore sex shows they have there, the girls have sex on stage with dildos and stuff and some of the girls are even underaged. I beg to differ thailand being a poor country. They have good natural resources,manpower and never been colonised making them a better model for a country compared to neigbouring Malaysia and Singapore\(which both seem to either lack in manpower, natural resources)but look where they have come to now?I dont think the sex industry boosted their economy. I think its time for thai people to come out from their stereotype of being labelled a sex country and work hard towards being a model nation. :)
