Someone once said that the saucer was supposed to represent the future, in that only women worked there. I'm not sure how accurate that statement is, though.
My brother pumped his first tank of gasoline there, on the day that he'd received his drivers license.
unfortunately this is no longer there. I do not remember when they tore it down but I wish they hadn't. I remember from when I was a kid growing up there.
anyone remember the saying "turn right at the flying saucer?" my gf is not from here and would look at me as if i were nuts if i tried to explain this, thanks for the video
Thanks for uploading this. I remember being very young and my parents stopping here to get gas. Too bad they tore it down. It seems in our disposable world anything that is unique or has character is thrown to the wayside.
omg I remember this thing!! I don't remember it ever being opened (I was born in '78) but it stood for many a year and my great grandparents, grandmother and mother always told stories about it!! great video!
I miss driving by this although I never seen it in use like it is here in the video. I just liked seeing the structure as we passed by. Now they built a darm Drug store in its place. Great memories for sure!
It was taken down and put into storage for a travel themed museum to be built in Ohio. They didn't pay on the warehouse space and all the contents got scrapped. The only part left was the center where the cashier sat. It was down off of North bend road but I think it's gone now too.
@ldames2 - This was at Five Points. Rt 20, Lake Ave, Park Ave and Main Ave meet. The BP is still there. The old Garfield's Restaurant is a Mexican place last I knew. Where the Walgreens now is, that's where the flying saucer was. I used to work at that Sohio/BP -- Gas-n-Go (the saucer) was closed then, but still standing.
The Arby's hat was taken down this past spring and they put a regular sign up just like all the other Arby's, not sure why they took it down, it was so cool, cause it was the only one around like it.
I drive by this site almost every day. The spot where that and the house you see behind it is now a Walgreens. I remember in the bubble at the top would be something depending on the season...(Santa in x-mas, bunny around easter, etc.)
I cannot remember anything about the band, but I always remembered the flying saucer! Actually I think it was scrapped. The museum lost the funding so they scrapped the saucer. Good thing that didn't happen in Independence Day!! :)
@BhagaVideo It was the scariest place for me to drive, I always got confused on where I was suppose to turn to go to different place! I was only 16 then.
Wow, thank you for sharing I was not even born when you took the footage.. I Love to see it functioning I always wonder as a child and even when I got to adult hood what It would look like if it was in business.. Yeah they tore it down but I heard they couldn't not put it back together that they lost some of the pieces so its in a landfill somewhere...
Oh my gosh I'm from Bula and love this video!!! They took the flying saucer a long time ago and it went to a museum somewhere in Cleveland. I was never able to see it functional, so this is AWESOME!!! ;)
