By just walking on the streets of big cities you can see the huge gap between the rich and poor. The current government is nothing like how Mao intended it to be. It's still a totalitarian regime, but they're getting softer as they don't want the people to turn into an angry crowd. Hence all the great events to create some national pride... but there's still a long way to go.

@etopla Well no, China is "officially" a communist country, but a lot of their rules are based off of capitalism and they do use some capitalist ideology in their economy, so really China is kind of a mix. They say they are 100% true communists though, and they do kind of act that way

I dont question that Mao was an inspiration during the revolution, but he should have staid away from politics like the Insane and mentaly disturbed man he was. There are leaders for war and for peace, he was not for peace. That is why Democracy is superior. Winston Chruchil for instance was a great leader during the war but a terrible one in peace, therefore his polital career ended.

Mao was a great man and leader. He brought fairness and equal rights.. All the death tolls on the Great Leap Forward, The Cultural Revolution and his whole time in power are exaggerated by the US just to give this illusion that Communism is horrible. Look at China now under a capitalist system, workers are exploited and treated unfairly to the point where they kill themselves in factories. Capitaism is the real killer, fore example the African slave trade killed at least 100 million.

When talking about communist revolutions, western historians call the casualties "political dissenters," yet when talking about bourgeois revolutions, those same historians call the casualties "victims of war" or "the cost of war," a blatant form of propaganda. @Trpr88 I'm not a Maoist scholar, but I have read all of his major and most of his minor works from 1920 up until his death, and he has been routinely opposed to taking violent measures against people. His favorite anology, which he used over and over again, is that when you want to cure an illness you never attack the patient, but you attack the infection. He never approved of violence, but it is inevitable in the middle of a revolution. A revolution is not a dinner party.

This is proven by the fact that he cut his policies off shorter than planned when the veil of secrecy surrounding him that was propped up by those under him was removed. Mao, just like Stalin, has had his history spun by the capitalist media to make him look like an inhuman monster, when in fact, he liberated the people of China and did a lot of good for the economy. People always fall victim during a revolution, it is in it's very nature. Some mistakes were made, yes, but they were mistakes in which Mao fully acknowledged, and in fact, most of these mistakes attributed to Mao were historically totally disconnected from him.
