The behavior of the gases around this object, the consistency of the light it has (yes, I fullscreened it) and the rate of movement all scream "NOT A ROCKET". Seriously...watch a few videos of rockets being shot off at night, then watch this one again. You'll see it isn't a rocket. And if a rocket fails, it falls like a rock. This one didn't. @bluebeard2011 You are correct, it's in the (very) outer atmosphere, however it's not a portal, as has been outlined in earlier comments. A major clue should be that it has a direction of motion from west to east - the same as the Earth and most Earth-launched spacecraft. A stationary object would appear to move east-west as the Earth rotates. In fact it moves in EXACTLY the direction (and speed) expected by the launch inclination (34 degrees-ish) of the Falcon 9 test launch 1, as was reported.

You may notice that HAARP is in Alaska and EISCAT is in Norway - both at high lattitudes where they actually get aurora and which the two facilities are involved in studying. The alleged HAARP base in Australia is in Exmouth WA- in the sub-tropics. Thousands of kilometers from an aurora OR the spiral!

If that's supposed to be a rocket, why don't the contrails disperse with the wind? It should be about 20 or 30kms up there. the wind speed should be up there at 100-200km/hr or so. Same excuses as the Norway Spiral. There must be a HAARP-like array nearby or something like that.
@x2deemable Actually Falcon 9 was in a stable low-Earth orbit at that point - its altitude was approximately 250km, so there is essentially no air molecules to cause wind. Whatever it ejected (probably fuel) is free to float alongside it at whatever velocity the rocket itself was travelling (around 7km per second) - matching perfectly what you would expect according to Newton's first law of motion.

To throw a stick in the works to all the 'rocket' believers, look at all design parameters for them. They simply dont carry extra fuel for this type of prolonged burn.
They are designed with minimum weight in mind and carry just enough to leave the atmosfere.
@OZPULSE1 As I stated in the other thread, it was a test launch - you'd expect extra fuel, for safety reasons, if nothing else. Not to mention, atmospheric pressure isnt constant - you cant assume rockets have a "one size fits all launches" fuel load that will be completely used.
I also dealt with your other claims there, regarding the spiral shape and the time for which the spiral was seen. Needless to say, they are both easily accounted for by the rocket explanation.
Yet another one of those spirals by the look of it. And yes, they all get explained away by people saying they are rockets. I guess it's possible that all of a sudden there are several rockets that all go wrong in the space of a few months, and all of them form a strange spiral shape in the sky. Very likely... I'm not saying it's a UFO, but I don't believe it's a rocket either.
@JakeAnnetts The one in China barely made it off the ground - you even see the silhouette of the launch tower in the video. Falcon 9 performed quite well - it reached orbit without incident and only had a slight spin. The other two (Russia and Norway) are likely the same type of rocket - they have a history of failure. The "Bulava" class SLBM - go look up the test failure rate yourself.
Personally, I dont see what makes the rocket explanation so unlikely.

I agree that people need to focus more on the available evidence rather than baseless claims. It's unfortunate, but I see the same pattern of evidence vs speculation in more important debates, such as climate change. I think it's important that people should be able to identify claims backed by reason and evidence vs those that arent.

It's not a UFO it is the 2nd Stage spinning from a Falcom 9 Rocket that was launched from the US and it takes less than 60 minutes on got around the Earth.

Regarding that moving mist, could it be that there's mist in between you and whatever this thing is, and as it moves it's light illuminates the mist in between you and it? So it's not that the mist is moving, but it's illuminating the mist near it? And when it moves far enough, the mist behind it goes dark so you can't see it? Just a possibility.
@new2hackin That's a reasonable explanation, however that's not how it acutally looked in real life! This is especially noticeable towards the end of the video when the object is in the eastern sky and the mist became harder to see because the sky is lighter. If there were mist everywhere, it would have been more noticeable in the lighter sky, not less noticeable.
I too live on the Gold Coast! I too saw a UFO here! It was in 2006. I first I saw a distant light while on the freeway. But as we were getting closer it too was getting closer. Then it suddenly moved sharp and really quick. It was still a distance away. But as it got closer I really saw something! It was hovering just in-between the freeway. Right next to helensvale Westfield. I saw it in enough detail to see 4 lights equal on all sides of the circle. and one odd one I found the sameone on utube
@roro879 A good question! From a practical perspective, by the time someone had prepared a plane for flight and actually gotten off the ground, the UFO would be long gone. I've read that there have been times when military jets have been scrambled to intercept UFOs, but the UFO always evades them!

Turns out your UFO is know an IFO!! The orbital trajectory of the Falcon 9 rocket roughly passes over SE QLD/Northern NSW at approximately 0650. Quite a spectacular site.

The moon moves, the Earth rotates and the lunar orbit can appear very quickly when viewed from the right angel. The moon setting on the horizon has appeared that fast before. First hand observation.

It is the planet venus. The bright light from the planet is being scattered by moisture in the atmosphere near to the location of the observer. Venus is often very bright and is often reported as giving the appearance of moving, but it is the movement of the clouds that gives that impression. Nice video, a very common thing to mistake venus for a ufo.

@WellSightedGentleman The altitude of Falcon9 at this point is about 250km, travelling at roughly 7miles per second... It's well outside our atmosphere! Objects from other countries routinely fly over our heads - I get messages on twitter almost daily that tell me times and directions to look for the International Space Station, for example. There would be literally dozens of satellites, etc that fly over Australia each day.

And it didn't fail - it was successful, with only a slight unintended spin upon reaching orbit.

Yet another one of those spirals by the look of it. And yes, they all get explained away by people saying they are rockets. I guess it's possible that all of a sudden there are several rockets that all go wrong in the space of a few months, and all of them form a strange spiral shape in the sky. Very likely... I'm not saying it's a UFO, but I don't believe it's a rocket either.

@JakeAnnetts The one in China barely made it off the ground - you even see the silhouette of the launch tower in the video. Falcon 9 performed quite well - it reached orbit without incident and only had a slight spin. The other two (Russia and Norway) are likely the same type of rocket - they have a history of failure. The "Bulava" class SLBM - go look up the test failure rate yourself.
Personally, I dont see what makes the rocket explanation so unlikely.

@Haribolman No problem - I actually like looking into things like this, and get asked about them quite frequently. I agree that people need to focus more on the available evidence rather than baseless claims. It's unfortunate, but I see the same pattern of evidence vs speculation in more important debates, such as climate change. I think it's important that people should be able to identify claims backed by reason and evidence vs those that arent.

Why would a rocket fly from america to australia when it has never happened before? Why did it not go straight up with a 10 to 15 min burn? Straight up is what 50k ? How many THOUSAND K to OZ DO the distances and velocities coincide?how is it still in low earth orbit if there at all? Seems too low for any orbit from pics, ,circle E *10 to gain orbit? Why are we suddenly getting at least THREE spiral anomalies from rockets never really observed before?Its still not making sense to me.

It happens all the time actually. I get tweets that let me know when the ISS is going overhead quite regularly, for example.

Rockets dont actually go straight up. They launch vertically, and slowly arc over until they are parallel with the Earth's surface.

Yes - the distance and velocity coincide exactly - Falcon 9 was right where it was meant to be at that time.

Remember you arent looking at the rocket itself, only the ejecta "spat out" from the rocket, which covers a large area.

since when did rockets from US head over Australia? If the did / do how is it we have never seen one before? The times dont add up,the rocket should have ben fully in orbit in 10 to 15 mins.? Its got enough fuel to head right round the planet, at a height visible from the ground.? When was the last time ANYONE saw a rocket do this? they go straight up and away.?

Regarding that moving mist, could it be that there's mist in between you and whatever this thing is, and as it moves it's light illuminates the mist in between you and it? So it's not that the mist is moving, but it's illuminating the mist near it? And when it moves far enough, the mist behind it goes dark so you can't see it? Just a possibility.

@new2hackin That's a reasonable explanation, however that's not how it acutally looked in real life! This is especially noticeable towards the end of the video when the object is in the eastern sky and the mist became harder to see because the sky is lighter. If there were mist everywhere, it would have been more noticeable in the lighter sky, not less noticeable.

I too live on the Gold Coast! I too saw a UFO here! It was in 2006. I first I saw a distant light while on the freeway. But as we were getting closer it too was getting closer. Then it suddenly moved sharp and really quick. It was still a distance away. But as it got closer I really saw something! It was hovering just in-between the freeway. Right next to helensvale Westfield. I saw it in enough detail to see 4 lights equal on all sides of the circle. and one odd one I found the sameone on utube

@roro879 A good question! From a practical perspective, by the time someone had prepared a plane for flight and actually gotten off the ground, the UFO would be long gone. I've read that there have been times when military jets have been scrambled to intercept UFOs, but the UFO always evades them!

The moon moves, the Earth rotates and the lunar orbit can appear very quickly when viewed from the right angel. The moon setting on the horizon has appeared that fast before. First hand observation.

@flutiwaxene As stated previously, I didn't even notice the moon until after the object had disappeared and I'd started walking again. It was only then, after a short while, that I turned around and saw the moon in the sky over my head, and slightly behind where I was standing.

this appears to be caused by an Ionospheric research device.. Same spirals seem to appear over Norway where devices exist. Similar to HAARP. But the one in Norway seems to be infamous for creating spirals in the sky.

It is the planet venus. The bright light from the planet is being scattered by moisture in the atmosphere near to the location of the observer. Venus is often very bright and is often reported as giving the appearance of moving, but it is the movement of the clouds that gives that impression. Nice video, a very common thing to mistake venus for a ufo.

@WellSightedGentleman The altitude of Falcon9 at this point is about 250km, travelling at roughly 7miles per second... It's well outside our atmosphere! Objects from other countries routinely fly over our heads - I get messages on twitter almost daily that tell me times and directions to look for the International Space Station, for example. There would be literally dozens of satellites, etc that fly over Australia each day.

The mist would not be anything inside the atmosphere, but most likely fine particles of something (probably left over rocket fuel) being vented into space from Falcon 9 as it spun slowly - but your point about it refracting (or reflecting) light (from the setting sun in this case) is almost certainly true. :-)
