I played this song earlier today with the IMEA District 6 Honor Band. I like this recording except the tubas were kindof a let down in measure 261. (that's 5:55)
When we played it earlier today, the tuba section was pumping out a consistent, blasting, powerful, lip-splitting tone that just wasn't there in this recording. In measure 260 the line slows down and builds in anticipation, then 261 hits and it's not as loud as 260. Then again, if they had 2-3 tubas, that would explain it.
I don't usually enjoy playing 3rd trombone (I'm a first usually), but this piece was just... calling to me. 3rd trombone was the most fun easily. I loved to just rock those attacks! I sure hope I get the opportunity to play another Maslanka, this was an incredible piece.
The trombones, at the start could be a bit more in tune on the attack. Good xylophone rolls... and tom playing. Great percussion, all around. Go bari sax
Wow, I haven't listened to this recording since we got back from performing it in Indy. I would love to play this again. That xylophone part is SOOO much fun to play. Too bad i flubbed up the descending triplets coming out of the soft section :(
VERY impressive for a high school ensemble!
