Like any other wildcat, caracals are pretty high maintenance in captivity, and they're a bit stinky, but they're nice to look at. I once fell in love with a cougar cub and had to take a cold bath in reality when it came to raising him properly. I couldn't do what it takes to care for him, so I had to pass.

Best to choose yourself a good cat from an animal shelter.

Well it depends. A caracal can be happy in the hands of the right person.

If a person is cruel against an animal, the animal will have a short life. Animals in captivity reaching a very high life span means that the owner has taken care of it well.

Medically, yes it has been well cared for, and I don't doubt that an owner would care for it and not commit overt acts of cruelty like beating it or not feeding it.

But they're depriving a wild animal of freedom, which is cruel. I wouldn't trade my freedom for an increased life span. I wouldn't buy myself an extra 10 years if the price was jail, because I'd simply be buying myself extra time in jail.

Yes...But if was given a chance to take care of a Caracal I would take care of it well. I won't underfeed it or torture it. Besides, the Caracal might enjoy a morning walk and chase the field mice and stalk the tree sparrows around here! That would be a great exercise.

I looked again - the camera does capture it when 6 is turning into 7 seconds but the camera is moving real fast. You can at least freeze frame it.
