my son died aged 13 due to having duchenne muscular dystrophy i got given a 7 % chance of having another boy with the condition, i would never put a child through the pain and discomfort my son went threw i didnt find out he had it till he was 4 when the symptoms started to show. I have had 3 cvs tests yes there are uncomfortable and yes there are risks, i had 1 miscarriage at 19 weeks but i have also got a healthy 7 and 10 year olds. smile on my sons face knowing they was okay worth every risk.
Ok....then if hes taking a sample...it looks as though he is injecting something in rather than taking it out. And why keep taking the needle in and out so many times if it just takes a second and you only need a small sample? Poor woman almost sat completely off the bed...OUCH!!!!
Is the needle inserted IN the belly during the CVS procedure? My chance is 1 out of 28 for down syndrome & I will do the CVS in a couple of days. I am scared.
I'm sorry but I think there is something very wrong with doing this to yourself when you are pregnant. In fact watching it made me feel quite angry, and I wish people would stop talking about downs syndrome as if it's negative, people are just people, it doesn't matter what they look like. Downs people are usually a lot more loving than 'normal people' and in this day and age a bit more love in the world wouldn't go amiss.
@ShandySpoon people have the tests for other reasons too . lose a child threw an illness ,watch there brothers or sisters or any family member or friend grieve then see if you still feel the same. Watch as your child gets worse and know there is nothing you or doctors can do about it .
@ShandySpoon I'm sorry, but who are you to judge what people may do? Yes, those with down's may be more loving but these tests can't tell you the severity of the condition. Those with down's are likely to have other conditions like autism which also comes in different severities. If someone discovers they have a down's pregnancy then it is up to the individual. No one takes the decision lightly! What people need is a little less judgement from those that aren't in that person's position!
@ShandySpoon: Down's syndrome IS negative. It's a genetic mutation and the child born is a financial and emotional burden to society for the rest of its life. The Downs person will never be independent from its parents, it will always need them, no matter how old it gets. People aren't "just people," they are contributors to the genetic destiny of our species and every person's contribution counts. Genetic defects should be eliminated from the gene pool.
@shandyspoon your a terrible person and deserve to be eliminated from our gene pool yourself you idiot! my son is the most amazing little man on earth! how dare you make fun of people who have never done a mean thing to anyone!
@kassbass123: And you can go get a hysterectomy or vasectomy. You and your retarded child are making things worse for the future of our species. I'm not "making fun" of anyone I'm stating a fact. When you're 60, and you're still changing your child's diapers, my commentary will make a lot more sense.
When he was pushing the needle hard up and down at one point, the screen was black. Which means he wasn't looking where the needle was going. OMG I'm terrified of doing this test.
Thanks for this video! Glad I saw it before I got my CVS laast week. As I'm afraid of needle proced. that go beyond vacc. or blood tests, I wanted to know how a CVS is done in reality - the details incl. how long it takes, about how much pain to expect, how much control the patient has over what happens - to avoid nasty surprises. After watching this, I decided for myself to have a vaginal CVS or none at all. Luckily a vaginal CVS was possible. Respect for the woman in the video! From Holland, S
i had two...not so bad, i feel pretty good right now. they jabbed mewith sme local to, does that affect the baby? wasn't given the option. im good with pain so..i hope everything turned out well for you. i watched the screen not the needles so i got to se it from a different view here lol
was done a lot more professionally & caring by the drs who did the test on me, my whole belly was disinfected & even the scan probe was put inside a plastic bag to make it more sterile, dont let this example put you off having the test done if its needed

I had a C.V.S test done Wed 03/06/09, St Marys, Manchester, Eng., there were two docs assisting in the test, one constantly scanning, the other inserting the needle, both talking to each other & making sure it was done right, the doc didnt ram the needle in like this idiot, they kind of suctioned the placenta out in the needle, then put into sample jar, then a nurse checked the sample, (the needle was left in place) she then asked if possible to get more, which they did, the whole procedure
I agree. I had an amnio yesterday and it was not done in a scan room and the doctor was completely sterile with gloves being put on my nurses. I was covered in Betadine. This is just weird. The way he puts the local in is pretty brutal as well.
Target audience seems pretty obvious to me! Pregnant women trying to find out what actually happens in the procedure, to help make an informed choice of whether or not to have the test!
The gloves are no sterile. I confirm. Not in England but in all civilized nation You must operate in dedicated invasive-test rooms. Not in common scan-room! I confirm in our cautry your medical licence would be immediatly suspended! Please make a favor to yourself: cancel your video!
Incredible! No sterility. a dirty coat, non-sterile gloves! In our Country the Police of National Health control, would immediately closed the office and sent the doctor to court. That's why the English obstetrician are considered the worst of the world ( Eddy J.W. Hosp. Med. 2000 march; 61 (3): 204-6)
ffs.... youve posted this on every bloody comment uve written... for a start.. its an ultrasound scan... doesnt need gloves, its non invasive, and when he does the CVS he puts gloves on, and uses sterile equipement.... secondly the last one i posted a reply to you on was in america not england.... tbh i think u need to stop being so damn racist... and shut up. x

ideally u do not use anesthesia
whats with the people here ranting about sterility
its an outpatient procedure
the needle that went in was sterile right?
sterile is meant for procedure where you touch the object and it goes inside
don't see the ultrasound probe doing that....
yeahsuperstar 2 years ago
There is a risk of infection to the fetus, so of course sterility is important!!
reallirhonda 2 years ago
of course sterility is important but then you should know what it means
as i said the needle goes in which is sterile
the hands stay far far away from the invasion site!
so no risk there
he clearly knows what he is doing

No, it is a CVS procedure. I invented the technique in the 1980's, performed it recently and filmed it.
