  • Barbariccia was the original intended name, named after a demon in Dante's Inferno. However, the original SNES translators didn't seem to know that, so they just transliterated the names as best they could. B's and V's often get mixed up in Japanese to English, as well as R's and L's. Imagine a translator looking at "バルバリシア(Barubarishia)" and wondering how to turn that into a name English speakers could pronounce. "Balbalishia? No... Valvalisha? Better, but it won't fit. Valvalis? Perfect!"

  • バルバルシア のより

    ババリッチーア

    とかくのほうが確かだよ

  • Valvalus? I thought it was Barbaricca?

  • She's invulnerable! Kain, Jump!!

  • when the game first appeared in the US her name was Valvalis and everyone knows her as such....she's awesome!!!!!!

  • I thougth Valvalis was the original English translation, but I don't know. In the Japanese text there, though, the name says Barubarishia. So yeah, that's the Japanese equivalent of Barbariccia.

  • 鬼のバルバリシアに詰まって調べたら、この動画がヒットしましたw

    参考にさせて頂きます。

  • just see RUBICANTE , in JAPAN IS CALLED yoidehanaika LOL

  • This isn't Valvalis, its Barbariccia. Are those names interchangeable?

  • I believe Valvalis is the english name, not quite sure though heh

  • Valvallis is the JPN name. Barbacia is the ENG name.

  • Valvalis is the name used in the original snes translation, and has nothing to do with the Japanese one. In fact, if you are able to read katakana, you can see in the video that her name is Barubarishia. Three guesses what that translates to.

  • i remember hearing something about it was changed, but not sure on that, althouh i did play an original version and i swear it was barbaiccia

  • guys he probley didn't know that he needed those people in frount.

  • Ugh.. Cecil in the back = epic fail. However, I always kept Yang in the front with Cecil and Kain. Even after 17 years of playing and beating FFIV for systems over and over again.

  • why is Cecil in the back?

  • Barbariccia hits like a ton of bricks and counters when attacked, so I guess he put him there to help with support magic while Yang and Kain use hard hitting specials.

This minimizes the damage dealt to the entire party, while dealing a lot to her in the meantime.

It's a pretty good strategy actually. It greatly increases your chance of survival. Wish I'd thought of that when I fought this bitch a few months back. :P

  • Why are you people so intent on deeming a games quality bad because of its looks?? I still play the original ff games from the snes/nes/famicom and even though the graphics are nothing compared to now, the storyline is just as good, and in my opinion, some older games are BETTER than the newer games with brilliant graphics. You'd think you people were born with a PS3 or 360 in your hand. Back when you were young, you didn't complain about the graphics, so theres no reason to moan now.

  • I'm ok with poor graphics. I enjoyed 5 and 6 for the PSX. It's just the fact that they could have done so much better. I'm only disappointed in the graphics because I saw the FMV for this and I thought the graphics would be equivalent to Crisis Core.

  • Crisis Core sucks.

  • try telling that to vintage-aerith, Anyways what didn't you like about Crisis Core?

  • Whats really sad is that this looks better than Final Fantasy VII dispite the fact FF7 was on a more powerful machin -_^

  • PS1 was like 12 years ago though.

  • Still, the PS1 has waaaaaay more 3D capability than a DS does (Don't get me wrong, I'm not a DS hater in the least)

  • I prefer PSP over DS. Although I do have both. lol I'll be selling the DS for parts cause the screen cracked, and while I was trying to fix it, one of the wires popped off and I don't have any soldering tools. :(

  • You must remember that ff7 is a much longer game too. One of the first pioneering games to have polygons to create the 3dness.

  • yeah cant wait 4 this game im playing the gba vertion on my emulator atm its sexy as

  • IMO i think they'er milking out FF VII

  • UH, NO. FFVII was one of the most popular Final Fantasy games. They aren't "milking it" in the least.

Crisis Core was about Zack, a character who hardly had any backstory in the original FFVII.

Dirge was mainly about Vincent, A hidden character who also didn't have much of a back story.

Before Crisis is the back story of the Turks.

And AC is the sequel to FFVII.

ACC is going to be important because it will have the FFXIII demo on it and 30 extra minutes of footage. :)

  • There actually IS a sequel with Cecil's son, but its for cellphones and Japan only.

  • Making a sequel would hurt the legacy more than help it (i.e. play those FF VII "sequels" yet?)...I'm glad they're updating some of these, gives the kids of today a chance to play the classics on a modern system with modern graphics w/o compromising anything

Yes, I do feel at time that they tend to "milk" certain titles (for instance, the FFVI "remake" on the PSX where all they did was add short FMV cutscenes), but if you don't like it, don't buy it...simple

  • I actually hate Final Fantasy, but I love the FFIII and FFIV remakes on the DS. I don't think they are so much "milking" the franchise as much as appealing to a broader audience.

  • haha i find that funny...b4 the fight there all the same size and in the fight shes 2x as big

  • In the SNES version; they are all the same size on the field; but in battle they are eight times as big for the monsters and two times for the allies. So it's been done before.

  • Oh please hope they keep her name Valvalis and not change it to Barbariccia like in the GBA version when this comes out in the US...

  • If only Valvalis was, you know, her name. It's Barbariccia.

  • its barbarricia, not valvalis, that was a mistranslation.

  • I'm not sure sure it is. As far as I can tell the Japanese don't have the letters L or V and use R for the Ls and B for the Vs.

As I saw a dbz sub and he clearly said Bejeta like when everyone knows the man's name.

Direct translations tend to be wrong a lot. Like In hellsing anime his name is clearly Alucard but some of the weeaboo twerps INSIST it is Arucard just because the Japanese don't have the letter L and Alucard is obviously Dracula backwards

  • Note... for the records I know it's Barbariccia originally since I played the original JP FF4... I just think Valvalis sounds better... apparently there is something wrong with giving opinions in these days...

  • Valvalis? Gods, I hate how they translated Barbariccia incorrectly.

  • That's the original SNES translation. Barbariccia is in the GBA translation.

  • Barbariccia had too many characters in her name to fit in the original SNES version, so unless you can come up with something better, Valvalis was a pretty good alternative.

  • In a way yes; but the SNES version could have it as Barbaric since the B's and V's along with the R's and L's are interchanged. Half font size and half translation error here.

  • i don't know much about FF, i never played one to be exact, but this looks like half-strategy half-real time. is that right?

  • Game will be released later this year in the US. You can already preorder it.

  • ff4 is on ds? I thought this was ff3, and it was a typo.. but this looks sick

  • They're releasing Final Fantasy IV on DS. July 22, 2008 in America.

  • That was meant towards SilfarionllDX

  • It is on July 22nd.

  • I soooo hope this makes it stateside!!!

  • Valvalis kind of resembles Yunalesca from FF X

  • Wasn't she called Barbarica in GameBoy Advance version?

  • Barbariccia, to be exact. "Valvalis" is a mistranslation (if not a space-constrained name) introduced in FFII(NA). Since that is the most exposed English version, as well as the longest available, that name has taken root. It's part of the "Aeris" complex (except Japan's always known the English spelling in that particular case).

  • Can u change window colors in this game?

  • is there a good emulator for the DS? I really wanna play the remake of ff 4

  • Valvalis is gorgeous...<3 <3 <3

  • they made valvalis so skanky...

  • Valvalis has always been skanky.

  • Aw I was hoping you'd show when Rosa was free from that guillotine. Awesome video, though.

  • すごい、たくさんの人が最後の戦いを待ってるみたいです。

  • I really am looking forward to the video on Zeromus

  • Yea I always wondered what he looked like 3d

  • Is Cecil better with white magic in this one? He seems more powerful, and knows more spells.

  • Im getting this game in a week or two! ^_^

  • OMFG, YOU HAVE THIS GAME!?!?!?!?!

    DUUUUUUUDE!

Also, how do you record this close to the screen , and be able to play the game? Without even moving around the DS? :D

  • Ah, sorry, didn't think anyone here would dislike me using Gods name in vain. :/

    Sorry, sorry!

  • You have a point, there. O.o

  • Please dont tell people what they can or cannot say. Who gave you the right. If you dont like it if someone says OMFG ignore it. Hope this teaches you a lesson.
