Barbariccia was the original intended name, named after a demon in Dante's Inferno. However, the original SNES translators didn't seem to know that, so they just transliterated the names as best they could. B's and V's often get mixed up in Japanese to English, as well as R's and L's. Imagine a translator looking at "バルバリシア(Barubarishia)" and wondering how to turn that into a name English speakers could pronounce. "Balbalishia? No... Valvalisha? Better, but it won't fit. Valvalis? Perfect!"
I thougth Valvalis was the original English translation, but I don't know. In the Japanese text there, though, the name says Barubarishia. So yeah, that's the Japanese equivalent of Barbariccia.
Valvalis is the name used in the original snes translation, and has nothing to do with the Japanese one. In fact, if you are able to read katakana, you can see in the video that her name is Barubarishia. Three guesses what that translates to.
Ugh.. Cecil in the back = epic fail. However, I always kept Yang in the front with Cecil and Kain. Even after 17 years of playing and beating FFIV for systems over and over again.

MAN, WHAT HAPPEN WITH YOU ? , CECIL IN THE FRONT WITH KAIN AND CID ( equiped with a Heavy Armor ) AND ATACK WITH CECIL TOO , DONT CURE , ROSA IS THE WITHE MAGE , NO CECIL , IF ROSA CAST sheel , protect and cure , ATACK WITH THE OTHERS CHARACTERS AND THE BATTLE TURS VERY EASY !!! :D
Barbariccia hits like a ton of bricks and counters when attacked, so I guess he put him there to help with support magic while Yang and Kain use hard hitting specials.
This minimizes the damage dealt to the entire party, while dealing a lot to her in the meantime.
It's a pretty good strategy actually. It greatly increases your chance of survival. Wish I'd thought of that when I fought this bitch a few months back. :P
Why are you people so intent on deeming a games quality bad because of its looks?? I still play the original ff games from the snes/nes/famicom and even though the graphics are nothing compared to now, the storyline is just as good, and in my opinion, some older games are BETTER than the newer games with brilliant graphics. You'd think you people were born with a PS3 or 360 in your hand. Back when you were young, you didn't complain about the graphics, so theres no reason to moan now.
I'm ok with poor graphics. I enjoyed 5 and 6 for the PSX. It's just the fact that they could have done so much better. I'm only disappointed in the graphics because I saw the FMV for this and I thought the graphics would be equivalent to Crisis Core.
I prefer PSP over DS. Although I do have both. lol I'll be selling the DS for parts cause the screen cracked, and while I was trying to fix it, one of the wires popped off and I don't have any soldering tools. :(
If you haven't heard, I will be ranking the bosses of Final Fantasy IV DS on my page! Check by on August 31st to check out places 31-20! Feel free to comment on my choices, but there is no voting. I will announce thr rules for this contest the week after the number one place is announced! could they possible milk the franchise a little more?
FFIV is one of the greatest FF's, it hurts to watch them drain intellectual properties instead of say - making a sequel that follows the story of the original after it ends.
Making a sequel would hurt the legacy more than help it (i.e. play those FF VII "sequels" yet?)...I'm glad they're updating some of these, gives the kids of today a chance to play the classics on a modern system with modern graphics w/o compromising anything
Yes, I do feel at time that they tend to "milk" certain titles (for instance, the FFVI "remake" on the PSX where all they did was add short FMV cutscenes), but if you don't like it, don't buy it...simple
I actually hate Final Fantasy, but I love the FFIII and FFIV remakes on the DS. I don't think they are so much "milking" the franchise as much as appealing to a broader audience.
In the SNES version; they are all the same size on the field; but in battle they are eight times as big for the monsters and two times for the allies. So it's been done before.
I'm not sure sure it is. As far as I can tell the Japanese don't have the letters L or V and use R for the Ls and B for the Vs.
As I saw a dbz sub and he clearly said Bejeta like when everyone knows the man's name.
Direct translations tend to be wrong a lot. Like In hellsing anime his name is clearly Alucard but some of the weeaboo twerps INSIST it is Arucard just because the Japanese don't have the letter L and Alucard is obviously Dracula backwards
Note... for the records I know it's Barbariccia originally since I played the original JP FF4... I just think Valvalis sounds better... apparently there is something wrong with giving opinions in these days...
Barbariccia had too many characters in her name to fit in the original SNES version, so unless you can come up with something better, Valvalis was a pretty good alternative.
In a way yes; but the SNES version could have it as Barbaric since the B's and V's along with the R's and L's are interchanged. Half font size and half translation error here.
Barbariccia, to be exact. "Valvalis" is a mistranslation (if not a space-constrained name) introduced in FFII(NA). Since that is the most exposed English version, as well as the longest available, that name has taken root. It's part of the "Aeris" complex (except Japan's always known the English spelling in that particular case).
Please dont tell people what they can or cannot say. Who gave you the right. If you dont like it if someone says OMFG ignore it. Hope this teaches you a lesson.

IMO i think they'er milking out FF VII
bigboyyo13 3 years ago
UH, NO. FFVII was one of the most popular Final Fantasy games. They aren't "milking it" in the least.
Crisis Core was about Zack, a character who hardly had any backstory in the original FFVII.
Dirge was mainly about Vincent, A hidden character who also didn't have much of a back story.
Before Crisis is the back story of the Turks.
And AC is the sequel to FFVII.
ACC is going to be important because it will have the FFXIII demo on it and 30 extra minutes of footage. :)
