Steve Larmer was such an underrated player, my fave player of all time. For proof of how great he was look at what he did at the Canada Cup in 1991, 1 less point than Gretzky.
The Blackhawk announcer here was Dan Kelly's son. He is dead wrong about Yvan Cournoyer! HE didn't score the game winning goal against the Hawks in 1971 to win the Cup----Henri Richard did! I VIVIDLY remember that! I was only 9 at the time! Dan Kelly Jr was an idiot, who NEVER got his facts right!

Bobby Hull had so much class! Here he was scheduled to drop the ceremonial puck with Henri Richard, but Hull gave the honor to his buddy, Stan Mikita. Hull gave so much to the fans, during and after his career. He's the leader in the pantheon of hockey greats!
the habs honoured each of the original 6 teams as part of their 100 year anniversary celebrations. They must have honoured beliveau during another original 6 celebration.
Don't you think it is weird how Savard should have been a Hab from the very begining. Why the Habs picked Wickenheiser over Denis still baffles me. Also the fact that the Habs kept Gump Worsley & Rogie Vachon & allowed Tony ' O to go to the Hawks is another thing that baffles me. I still think Tony is amazing. Look at his stats & then think of what his stats could look like if he had stayed a Hab. The "What If" is incredible.
The choice not to protect Esposito hardly ended up biting the Habs given they beat him twice in the final. The choice was made by Sam Pollock as he had Esposito, Myre, Vachon, Dryden and Michel Plasse on the books already and at that stage. Vachon had the most experience so it was between Myre, Dryden and Esposito to replace Worsley as his career wound down. Esposito was a great goalie, but I tend to give Pollock the benefit of the doubt when looking back, his track record was pretty amazing.
i just love stuff like this. Hull, Tony O, Cournoyer, H.Richard, Dryden, and Mikita still looks the same as he did 30 years ago great video. i eat it all up lol
Too bad Montréal and Chicago only play 1 game per year against each other. 1st team is Montréal but my 2nd favorite team is definitely the Blackhawks because of great Denis Savard. Also the best two jerseys in the NHL (MTL red, and CHI black). GO HABS and HAWKS GO!!!!
I agree with you I was a fan of Savard & Tony O, so I was a fan of the Hawks first then the Habs, but once Espo retired & Savard got traded to the Habs that was it. My 2nd favourtie team became my 1st.
@MCM54 Bettman,Team Owners,NHLPA,have all done their share to all but ruin the NHL...todays schedule and playoff format is dreadfully boring...really miss the balanced sched and 1-16 playoff format. I can barely watch todays NHL with its never ending parade of gimmicky, counterproductive, market driven rule changes...all for the purpose of selling hockey to U.S. networks and non-hockey fans in non traditional hockey markets. Just watched the 79 Habs/Bruins Game7...plenty of entertainment there.
This is all class. Never seen a game in Montreal, but you could tell from this ceremony that (not surprisingly) their fans know the game of hockey, and have a great appreciation for its history and its great players, no matter what sweater they wore. Games between the Original Six franchises happen so rarely now, but they really are a treat.
Montreal is my 2nd favorite team behind the Blackhawks. This was classy by the Canadiens. I'd love to see the Hawks and if not the Hawks, the Canadiens make it to the cup finals. I'd love to go to Montreal to see the Canadiens.
I hope that the Hawks comeback to greatness. It is sad to see a classic team be that bad for so long. The Canadiens organization is a class act for having night like this to celebrate a rival team.
I just talked to Steve Larmer at the Blackhawks Convention yesterday and he mentioned Secord has now attained the rank of captain with American Airlines.
alot of people dont know that hes a pilot. Larmer obviously has a great sense of humor. one of my alltime favorite hawks. they asked whos jersey should go to the rafters next. my pick is 28. it will probably go to no. 7 for chelios (deservedly so) but grampa had longer tenure and way more memories.

Henri Richard did NOT set up the famous goal in 1971, nor did Cournoyer score it! Richard scored it! Cournoyer had nothing to do with it!

@Yestrooper1 I wouldn't have called dryden a stand up goalie either. He was famous for his flop.

Two classiest franchises. Montreal does everything right when it comes to tradition and honoring the league

To think, they almost faced each other this year (2010). Can you imagine, two orginal six in the Stanley Cup finals? Would have been something.
You know, Tretiak was drafted by Montreal. Wow, we could have had all three goalies from the 1972 series on the ice again!

@Scoclamor And Tretiak was goalie coach for the Hawks at one time!

they didn't face each other in 1972. It was 1971 and 1973. 1972 was boston and the Rangers.

7 won't be retired (Cheli has been on the Wings longer then he was on the Hawks). #27 should be. Jeremy Roenick.
