Very welcome to have a listen to AirwavesJoxfields Vegetable (Elephant ) Man with Joxfields tribute-to-David-Gilmour's-ca-1971-playing guitar at 1.59. If you make a visit; hope you enjoy it! Cheers!
I was there. Tried to hitch down the A1, but too many people trying to get to Lundun.
Walked back to my home town and took the train. Lovely warm day. They played Atom Heart Mother. I remember the gong coming off the hangings and crashing off the stage to great cheers from the crowd. Found out what a chillum was. One of the best days of my life.
I was there 18 years old a beautiful day sun shining pipe of peace in hand listening to set the controls for the heart of the sun echoing through the city and my mind with such peace and calm this has to be the most beautiful day for all who remember.
still have the vinyl of atom heart mother, bought it the week after, scratched to buggery with little pop pop reminders of parties, love the choir singing on it, still play it now and again, sunny day on my farm, blast it out and time shift to back then when men were men and testicles had only recently dropped
i was at this concert, right before my 16th birthday, met irish twins in long rabbit fur coats, my friend and i went to their pad and had fried egg sandwiches, smoked my first joint and so forth... got in a lot of trouble when i finally went home. those were the days!
I remember this concert. It basically hung around a promo day for the Harvest record label, fo you had Soft Machine, Edgar Broughton, Roy Harper and I think Kevin Ayers then the Floyd. They finished with Atom Heart Mother with all the bells and whistles, which had just been released. I wandered off near the end, not their greatest work I thought. Or it could have just been the beer.
I was there. it was good, but I got the sense of change in crowds and music maybe a bit less magic than previous hyde park concerts. still very good though.
This song is called Dark Side On the Moon. It is about their old lead singer Robert Waters. He died in the insane asylum after the doctors gave him too much acid. I believe this song is on The Division Bell. That is their truly experimental phase. I read a book about these guy's. The older stuff is great eg; Momentary Lapse of Reason and Division Bell. Two works of art. The new stuff like Pulse and Radio KAOS is not as good.
@zenarrrow moron...stop tryin to sound like you're on acid as you think the mindless drivel you wrote actually sounds cool...which it doesnt. You wrote the same crap on another PF video i just watched.Make a sensible comment in future please.

@paranoidnutter lucky son of a gun. there will never be a show like that or the wall ever again in life. and i agree with shona1288 down below on the screen.
Not quite sure what you mean by this comment. The pictures are definitley Hyde park, the audio is from the BBC 'In Concert' show that was broadcast just a few days after the hyde park gig.
Hahaha! I was 18 in 1970, and if you look carefully you can see me in the audience. I'm the one with the long curly hair and the grey loon pants I bought down Kensington Market. I may well also have dropped a microdot for the Floyd.
He had already died in a mental hospital from the doctors giving him too much acid. Listen to some of their older stuff like momentary lapse of reason when Syd had just died and the band was real motivated. then they kinda died down a little with dark side on the moon but that was ok too. Just not as powerful.
Then you must tell me how he could be in a studio in 1975 and see his band recording Wish You Were Here!!! And how he still could record new records and play live long time after 70!!! Lol, doctors at hospital NEVER gives their pacients drugs!! lol.
urm are you retarded? he died in 2006 of cancer. there is elements of truth in what you just said at times during the 80s he is rumoured to have volountarily spent time in a mental hospital but his death had nothing to do with "doctors giving him acid" he had diabities which had given him problems over the years after his acid induced breakdown in 1968 and he eventually died of cancer thats the real story you moron
yeah i wish i coudl time travel or go into a time machine.i was born in 75 and nowadays music is horrible lol.i think i was born in the wrong time seriously lol
thats totally not fair! i didnt get into them until september! wouldve been nice at least to be 2 years earlier, then iu coulodve at least gone to davids gilmours on an island tour
I mean that particular strato...first time I see it...he usually uses his black super-modifyed strat or the white one n°0001...or the red strat in floyd's later days
excellent concert - I was there! Main memory though is of Roy Harper dealing with a middle-aged heckler(!) by telling the audience not to get angry with the heckler - he would be dead before the rest of us....
Steve Marriott from the band Humble Pie gave this sunburst strat to David. The neck is a 1963 neck, and the body is a 1959. David would later put this neck on the black strat
Yes, asdf3455656 This is Embryo - a live version from the demo that was not supposed to be released (released on an album called Picnic but withdrawn)- you can get a very good version of it from the John Peel sessions
were they performing Atom Heart Mother? I was always curious what the band looked like with a brass section and choir on stage when they did that..thanks for filling in the gaps?
Brokenchair, I still don't understand what on earth you're on about. I can't even tell if you like PF or not from the way you choose to express yourself.
A viewer has complained, rather agressively, that I've only put '16th' of the whole song on video. This is because the video isn't long enough for the whole song and the point of the video is to do with the photographic record of the Hyde Park gig and not the song.
It's funny, there's so much technology now a days to document every 'turd' band out there. But Pink Floyd put on some of the most legendary shows ever, and there's almost nothing out there in terms of video, photo, or first hand witness in terms of historical record. Long live The Floyd.
I was there in summer 1970 with a friend! It was a phantastic concert. Before Pink Floyd there were Kevin Ayers and the Edgar Broughton Band on stage. Funny mix. I've still got tons of small b&w photos I made during that concert. In summer 1970 I was sweet sixteen and still sooo optimistic. Sadly, that has changed a lot. I think the world we're living in today is shite ... and that's not because I'm simply nostalgic. Life was much better for everybody in the 60s and 70s.
Ok, I just noticed that I have to narrow down what I wrote in my last sentence. Life was better for us here in Europe and in the U.S. It certainly wasn't better for the peoples of Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia.
When asked a question about Pink Floyd in an interview conducted in Jan 1971 by Ben Fong-Torres, Morrison said that he really liked them. In fact, he said in the same interview that he had seen Pink Floyd in concert in Hyde Park, England the previous year. This must be it.
Great piece of personal history. I like this kind of stuff because it is totally unique and personal to you. A moment captured. fascinating
