great advice and you're right , the film does of course not last forever, some of mine has degraded badly, just glad I got most of it on DVD before it got too bad.

awesome intro song clip. =) I would love to do that with the video my mom has too but she would have to snail mail it to me. I do plan a visit in the next couple years so maybe I can get them then.
However I am not in any of them. =( Her camera was stolen just before I was born. But I would still love to see them and my brothers/sisters when they were younger. I am the baby of the family.
Great gift idea, much better than anything you could have bought them. The conversion looks like it came out rather well given your description of the tapes and the DVD menu is impressive too.
Definitely agree on archiving the videos too - convert whatever you've got while you can. Even people using Hi-8/VHS-C etc should put what they have onto DVD and store it safely as the PQ doesn't degrade over time.
That is fantastic! What a great gift. I love the use of the old Keystone projector box as the DVD cover. Your family must have love it.

you need a elmo projector. it has to have a speed control. this controles the flicker by adjusting the frame rate. aprox 18 frame per sac.

I tried this but got too much flicker in the image. How did you get such a good picture without flicker?
