  • Nice work Rich! Does this still stand up today. Also, is this better than putting the 'stretch and crop' codes, you can put under Tags in editing, that YouTube offers? I use Pinnacle software - boy do I wish you could make a tutorial on this using it.

  • Excellent video tutorial!!! I love it, Thx man

  • hey rich you know when you had those effects and u kicked ur pug and broke the fence how do you do that but he is still in the video like a super kick

  • Are you some kind of computer genius?? cause I think you are...

  • thank you

  • Did you make the new video with the new aspect ratio? I'm trying to get my format correct for my new HD videos. Can you help?

  • i like the streched one :)

  • write this in the tags of your video:

yt:stretch=16:9 (change 16:9 to the aspect ratio of your clip)

  • little rich little rich no one can deny, little rich little rich hes not small hes a DWARRRRF!

  • @BradandBitches funny -.-

  • 0:44 skip

  • but i dont have sony vegas

  • @TheDavidMasih Then why did u watch this :P

  • Thanks so Much!

  • why the hell would youtube use a non filmatic aspect ratio. I mean really, no camera shoot in this... they need to settle on 16:9 DUH! But thanks for the vid.

  • Thanks this just made my day , ive been looking for this video for so long!

  • How do I unexpand you tube window size to orginal settings?

  • ugh Why is Vegas Pro 9 harder than 8?

  • wow! great tutorial!!! thank you so much for the tip! FINALLY someone who actually helps without becoming boring. :) great job, dude! keep it up!

  • Hey little rich, thanks for your help on your theme song, but I have one more question. Can you make a tutorial and show me how you put you picture at the bottom of latest video

  • Subed.

  • does anyone know what the default settings were for rendering in wmv on sony vegas.???? Cos sometimes i just wanna watch it in the below par quality it originally gave me cos my computer is too slow for HD.

  • @missyxxmischa well when ur goin to render u gotta see something called template. there u choose default

  • Which Recorder did u use to record this video? Hyper cam or Cam studio

  • Thank you so so much, this video helped me a lot!

  • hey rich, can you make a tutorial on video compositing? i have a bit of a problem doing it with the ones with a white background.

    Any help would be appreciated!

  • dude, ur the best!!! I've had this problem for so long and i think this will help!!!!!!

    thnx again!!

  • help someone i only have four render settings 4 some reason Help Please EX XDCam.mp4 what is this i want WMV Format Help

  • @TheWizard854 If you downloaded vegas through a crack, or by torrent or by "ghetto" means, then it could possibly mean a glitched sony vegas. If you purchased it full price, then you're making some mistake

  • What are the specs of your PC? Seems to render very quickly for you. Also, while previewing do you ever get any lag? I do, especially while previewing any transitions and when it cuts to another video. Why is this and how can i emiminate it? Thanks

  • Uh how come mine does not work right? I did just what you said but for some reason the top and bottom are cut off :/

  • Hi Rich, i have found a very easy way to remove black bars on youtube, watch my video to see how. Btw, you dont even need sony vegas or any other program if you do it my way! Say hello to fonzy for me! :D

  • How to make player window remember it's size? I press the arrows near volume control to make it wide but it always shrinks back. I'll appreciate any help.

  • Thank you very much <3

  • The aspect ratio is not 2:1, you are incorrect. The correct aspect ration is 16:9 which comes out to be exactly 1960 X 1080 hence the nomenclature of 1080p.

Therefore, your settings for properties should be 1920 X 1080.

  • @CharlesHSpurgeon What'sa another ratio i can render in which will fill the whole youtube player screen while not having to render in the very time consuming 720 or 1080 HD? Thanks.

  • @LFiers

Pick any height you want and then multiply it by 1.7778.

    This is called 16:9 ratio.

1080 and 720 use the following width and heights:

    1920X1080

    1280X720

Any other question please feel free to ask.

  • @CharlesHSpurgeon Thnaks. Yeh i know what 16:9 is. I didn't actually stop to figure out that it was exactly multiplied by 1.7778 to create a 16:9 ratio. How'd you figure this out? Anyway so any height i want multiplied by 1.7778 is perfect to fill youtube player box wall to wall right? Do i need to crop the footage before rendering to fit the youtube screen in 16:9?

  • I have found the solution go to my channel and i have a tutorial

  • I found a new solution !!!!!!! I posted it as a response to this video !! I got the perfect settings!

  • Finally! this will help sooo Much, Good Voice, Good Picture and Good Audio :)

  • whaaaay! some more english people! get the english people on youtube! (:

    Holly, Leeds (:

  • this helped so much i had no clue to what to save it all as, at first i was getting a border all the way around my footage. cheers rich :)

  • Great job on all your video . How do you record this videos, are you using regular video camcorder, or there is are different way, and tool. I am asking because I wanted to record something from may computer and I did not get clear picture , plus it's hard to zoom in and out.

If you could explain this in some of your tutorial, I would appreciate, or if you prefer you can just send me an email. Thank you.

    Please keep doing it.

  • hey man for some reason i cant choose custom frame size so it doesnt let me do all this

  • Rich, thanks for keeping up with all the how-to's working with the changes on here. Always good info. :-)

  • youtube is just a pain in the ass.. thanx for this tutorial tho

  • thanx a lot that did help a lot even with the current youtube settings it worked not bad :>

  • there are up and down

  • you are amazing man thnxxxxxxxxxx a lot very usefull

  • I forgot about that - right-clicking in the pan/crop screen and then select "match output aspect". That really works good! Saves alot of headaches and time too trying to figure out how to get the video to fill the screen. Thanks so much Rich! Hope you're doing okay.

  • Rich, your previous video for this still fits fine... I've been using that set up for a long time and it's fine

  • Would you PLEASE Make the new video? Matian Aspect Ratio is my only option right now. And its not looking good! Thanks Rich For Understanding.

  • wtf is this guy on about?

    /watch?v=dwQJkl2yxvc

this is my video with a 16:9 ratio and it looks fine.

  • Excellent! Rich, Please help me with this. "How to see my video on full screen television while playing it from timeline"?, Is that what they call "printing video from timeline"? Do i need to adjust some parameters on my Sony Vegas Pro 8? Thanks

  • ok yup, they changed it yet AGAIN back to the original 16:9 1280 X 720, so make sure u peeps render accordingly. maybe they were seeing how the 2:1 ratio worked, prolly not well, as it tends to crop more frequently, but thanks 2 people like Rich, we can find out the good settings.

  • Rich u rock~! I thought I was goin 2 hav 2 buy an HD camera to get widescreen. One of the best channels on here, all the best!

  • @richw4

Can you help me about my problem with croping & paning

  • Hey buddy, I'm new to editing and just thought i'd say your videos are great they've really helped me out!

    Thanks!

  • Thanks :D

  • figured out the new ratio yet?

  • why do u have black bars in this video?

  • Comment removed

  • @gangstatuts7 changed the layout again

  • @gangstatuts7

i prefer having top and bottom black bars then side black bars

    xD

  • @gangstatuts7 that's the aspect ratio

  • @gangstatuts7 16:9

  • @gangstatuts7 Because like Rich says, they have been editing the formats trying to get the perfect screen values.

  • @gangstatuts7 Because they changed the ratio to 16:9 once again, dummie :(

  • @Turbo2200kBps Well is there any vid that could help me get widescreen on it without cutting some of the recorded screen out? thanks

  • @gangstatuts7 Leave him alone!!

  • @gangstatuts7 because youtube got the 1280x720 player back

  • thanx man saved me alot

  • why is youtube so stupid to put this black bars even the vid is in hd

  • Heya Rich, just to let you know I was wound up about them changing it from 2:1 to something else...

Then while watching some of your videos I realised they were fullscreen, so I uploaded a test video with 16:9 aspect ratio (1280X720) and it's fine. I guessed they changed it from 16:9 to 2:1 and then back again!

  • hi little rich this may be good for you to know and let other people know (get the word out) if people want faster rendering times, (Windows only (as far as i know)), click CTRL+ALT+DEL, and open task manager , and then find sony vegas right click and set the priority to high and then have nothing els running (could crash comp) this will make the rendering so much faster trust me :P

  • hey beko909 you seem to know a bit about vegas. Well ive uploaded a video and for some reason the audio is out of sync. But this only happens when i upload my video to youtube

  • Wow--thanks for that tip! It really does work!

  • my 30 second videos take an hour and a half to render and my frames skip alot like the beginning of this video

  • yeh mine to XD

  • you nice and always happy watched many off ur vids with joy ^^

  • i keep getting a square instead of full box?

    any ideas rich?

  • widescreen gives videos a profesional look.

  • Its WideScreen But Bad Quality!

    Thanks Anyway!!

  • You give a tutorial on filling up the screen but yet this very video doesn't fill up the YT player.

  • What you use to record ?? Plz replay

  • can't open 2 see a da fid when it's a MP4 FILE !

  • thnx for tutorial i can now convert even if its outdated im offf rendering

    thnx

  • its bcos hes using vegas 8 i think

vegas 9 not got most of the stuff he rendered on

  • guys wtf why 8-?! i was protecting richw4. i said that to eusvt come on wtf?!

  • Thanks for this.

  • How do you convert the video so that you can post it to youtube asap?

  • lol Black bars are back again!!! and this video is now outdated can you please make a new one lol

  • he said he would make one..............

  • Thank you for the tutorial, very easy to understand!

  • dude, i've been doing just everything that you said, but.. everytime, after render, appears just the audio on my file. O_O do you know what is that? thanks for the work! great job!

  • I had the same problem. When you export the video, make sure its saved as a video file. As in, when you save it, there will be a (dot)wmv/avi/etc.

Its fairly easily fixed. What kind of computer do you have?

  • i have these white boxes on my video screen how do i get rid of it and my event pan crop wont open

  • Black bars. wooh! lool

  • Now youtube have changed it again and now it looks really lame :[

  • can you make a video about you read a poam and you get threw the window and then when you get trapped in the computer and you go to you tube and type and how to get out of here and it wasa pop up and he fase got you

  • sory it was supost to say and you fall out the window

  • LOL! You are awesome Rich!!!

    BOP

  • Richh! Theres a new Youtube player lol now we have lines every ware :P:P UPDATE!

  • sony vegas is nowt but bloody trouble/

  • nice vid but can you tell us the new player?

  • Ok, thanks. Waiting for this new video.

    You're awesome.

    Thanks a lot.

  • this wrks with videos too right? cuz im trying to upload a montage

  • thanks that helped out so much!

  • 1440 x 720 is also good

  • pause at 0:08

  • lol

  • I just posted this on the youtube complaint forum

WTF .. Now not only do my 1280 x 720 uploads look stupid , but now the 1280 x 640 uploads I did to compensate for the last change look positively RETARDED

black bars all round not just at the left and right ...!!

You seriously need to give us some options now on the video edit screen as to how videos are displayed .. the youtube video tags don't seem to work

  • It's back to: 1280 x 720 (16x9 HD) and 640 x 480. However, you will still get the black bars on the left and on the right. Due to the YouTube bar player, the video is forced to conform to it. The left bar is 50 pixels in width and the right is 56. Overall, the video is played in a 960x480 player. Even though it's only playing 854x480 of the video. The YouTube bar is 25 pixels in height and 480 in width. All we can do is wait and see what happens. 2x1 ratio gets messed up now. Nothing we can do.

  • youtube change the aspect ratio again why!!!!

  • Oh, man. YouTube and their changing designs makes me mad.

BTW rich. At the min. 0:52, the part where says "Deinterlace method", you use "Inerpolate fields". I use "Blend fields", but I want to know what's the difference between those fields? Could you explain me, please?

  • why Youtube why , i was looking for some good instructions to fill up the whole Youtube Player with Sony Vegas and i finally ( thanks Richi , you rock man your great ) found this Video, i went ahead and did it myself everything seemed fine till youtube came up with this shit again .... anyway Richi thank you for spending Time to figure out how to do such things to satisfie people like us

  • Now it has black bars everywhere, Why do they keep changing it!!!

  • aggggh! Back to the drawing board!!!!!

Just looking at it for the first time, looks like it is more like a normal aspect ratio..gonna try a few tests.......I will be back :)

  • These videos are great, but do you know if there is anyway to downsize HD videos? I just recorded a 1:40 video on my Sony HVR-HD1000U and it came out to be 413MB! it took forever to upload, any suggestions?

  • I tend to record in HD and render as (using the settings shown in the video) MP4 and a 3min 30 vid comes out at about 50mb and the quality is really good.

  • Thanks alot! wow that helped immensely I was saving it as a WMV file, for anybody who wants to downsize their HD files render as an MP4

  • what about for just regular vids, how do i get it to render in HD with the mp4??

  • render it from sony vegas in "good" or worse quality.

This will reduce the file size.

  • They changed it again.

  • Looks like they changed it again.. I just watched this video a few hours before it changed.

  • Hwy 25.000 per second and not 29.000?

  • My camera records in PAL format being in the UK and the frame rate it records is 25 fps 9although it does also have a cinematic 24 fps too) Abroad such as in America they use the NTSC format at 29.97 fps. Uprating from 25 to 29 would create extra frames by interpreting the image rather than what was actually recorded although to be honest there is not a huge amount of difference if you do so. :)

  • Thanks!

  • Thanks stupid YT! :(

  • Great tutorial! It seems strange for Youtube to pick an aspect ratio that is not supported by any consumer camcorders.

  • nice ....I bought Vegas yesterday

  • thanx sooo much

  • Hey rich i posted a video response its called halfcab heelflip but when i do widescreen my video laggs a birt do you know why?

  • its a small black bar at the bottom at your vid

  • what a strange, yet helpful man you are!

  • Ive got an Hd camera

    and sony vegas

and i tried this but it wont work for me it wont even finsish the processing when im saving it it says error, its so annoying ill keep trying though!!

  • sony vegas is drivin me mad

i got a new hd camera but

cant get it hd or anything can you help me pleaseeeee

  • render as a default..

  • if you want the max settings for 2:1 use 1440x720 :)

  • or if you want 2:1 for HQ use 720x360

  • Thanks a lot man,your are a genius! :) :)

  • Great video man! :) Subing :D

  • Thanks for your help, I tried this yesterday with windows media encoder, and it works perfectly. Strange thing is that when I tried to convert a video today the audio quality became horrible when switching to 1280x640. Can't fix it. Any idea why this happens to me?

  • it took forever for me to render 1280x640 by WMV. but then I rendered mp4 the same as you. so it took less time now. Why is WMV a larger file then mp4? Which is the better way to get better quality?

  • I have a question. When i use Mp4 files in SOny Vegas there is no audio, jus the clip!

    Wat can i do?

  • you may have to download the latest version of Vegas if you have an older copy - free if you have a registerd copy. This happened to me too a while back but they had a fix for it and other issues. Go to sonycreativesofware's download pages for more info of fixes etc

  • okay thanks:D

  • YouTube settings are stil 1280 x 720 (16x9 HD) and 640 x 480 (4:3 SD). I just checked the help section. I followed the directions for this video thinking it would save me some time, but I've ended up doing my video over like 4 times already now.

  • The recommended settings are still 1280x720 (mentioned in earlier comments) but if you use those then you will get the black bars either side if viewed in HD or the larger player..personally I watch most vids in the smaller player so will probably still use 1280x720 this vid was merely to answer the numerous questions asking how to 'fill' the screen on the larger player :)

  • Um, okay. Thanks for that clarification.

  • This is brilliant. I was wondering why my HD vids were suddenly displaying those dreaded black bars. Thanks :)

  • why do they keep doing this? lol crazy!

  • I did exactly the same, and i get errors :O, I render as AVI and w.e everything is right.

  • You rock man ! Thanks so much, this helped me a lot :)

  • your videos are so great!!! thank you so much :)

  • i used 1920 x 960 it works perfect u dont have to edit anything by event pan crop

  • You make it look so easy Rich

  • ummmm... it worked great and all, but everytime i try to upload it to youtube, it says an error has occured... help please!!!

  • wellm i just did everything the way you said, and its rendering now. lets hope for the best shall we? thank you!

  • Thank you!!!

  • I have a questions: Somehow it happened that if I chroma keyer the window doesn't pupop but stays embedded in the curent window, how can I change it back to appear in a popup window ( I tried double clicking but it stays like this: "here was a link to a print screen I made, but can't post links in comments" )

CU, and keep making those great tutorials!

    Jurgen aka AOT

  • Here it is: Hi, don't know if you appreciate people sending you private messages, but just want to thank you in person. I learned to use sony vegas (I have pro 9b) by watching your tutorials. I'm still a beginner in comparison with you but I'm getting better each time I try new things with vegas...

  • I tried to message you, but you only accept messages from friends. I also tried to add you as friend, but for some reason you didn't accept. No problem, I just had a message which is too long as comment. I will split it in 2:

  • sorry, was a couple of days behind with friend requests..have accepted your so feel free to send a PM :)
