  • First level has Rumia's theme. WOOOO!

  • He said 'I don't do demos'. Except in every one of his LPs ever.

  • I don't care how many Mario hacks you do I would watch 15 minutes if you made an LP of watching paint dry. Point being, if raocow is doing it I am watching it.

  • Why is Lunate Elf playing for the Burnt Forest? Considering it's an ice theme lol.

  • lol, the Cirno music is for me I guess XD

  • the music is a little changed...

  • Experimental subtitles make this even more wacky. Zionists? The Taliban?

  • rofl @ the title

  • you say bet-ah instead of bait-ah, you are my best friend.

  • touhou music,SMRPG music, and Fire Emblem music? It's almost like they couldn't decide what to go with lol

  • WARNING! Feathers are very rare! AND THE FEATHERS ARE ONLY AT THE BONUS GAMES!!!

  • i liekd ti when he read the dialog to you........can you do that again Rao

  • hey that walking gimmick on the map looks pretty neato

  • Overworld music is zelda link to the past music

  • yeah these are serious hacks indeed

  • ...This hack isn't somehow related to S.C.O.R.P.I.O.N. and MGH's work, is it?

The level design style (grab an item on one path to open another path, repeat) is giving of a very familiar vibe :\

  • You do demos all the time Raocow : P

  • I really like the look of this hack so far, let's hope it continues with such quality!

  • i've played this hack and I have to say, this hack tries to make the storyline way too serious. hope you're up for fighting the same boss with different sprites over 5 times in a row!

  • alright now i'm sure of it.

this IS related to scorpions revenge and the fourth sector, isnt it?

(don't take this the wrong way dudes, they weren't by any means bad hacks- its just that the flaws they had were VERY specific, and translated almost identically between eachother)

  • I lol'd at Awesome Hack McCoy.smc

  • Time for some oh-my-god-the-world-is-ending action, amirite?

  • Dude, the screen music was Eliwood's theme from Fire Emblem. That's awesome.

  • Technically, it's one of the two main recruitment themes that have been used across the series as a whole, it's been around since Marth's adventures back on the NES. The only theme more consistently used over the series is the main theme of Fire Emblem.

  • Oh, I meant to say the title screen theme. The recruitment theme was in one of the level. Sorry, about any confusion.

  • In my opinion, you shouldn't play Yoshi's Island hacks. Since hacking in that field hasn't evolved as greatly as Super Mario World's, it's the same story over and over, leaving little room for commentary.

  • Heres hoping this one doesn't lose track of the plot like MKM did. Or we might have to fight Peach Satan again.

  • @LaZodiac

Dont scare the children we those horror stories!!

There there children dont worry it wont happen

  • COLY HAP! I remember this game! It was a Demo! I never got past the Desert Eyeball in World 2! Yay! Raocow! Great choice for a hack to LP... Very good. This is alot of fun!

  • Wow, was the hack maker watching raocow's LPs while tinkering with Lunar Magic? I find a lot of "inspired by (insert something raocow played)" in this.

  • This hack looks interesting. But yes, I am getting tired of the SAME custom songs in so many hacks. C'mon! Lol.

  • I don't know who this Randy is, but the road to him is filled with Touhou music.

Actually, what was the song used in the last level there? I think I recognized it from somewhere.

  • That was the music from Barrel Volcano in Super Mario RPG

  • I like how we're now calling any problem solving item a p-switch.

  • I'm liking this hack. It doesn't seem to be very hard so far, but that usually creates better commentary IMO.

I guess we'll see where it goes from here.

  • You mean contrast in the orange and blue... right?

  • Raocow, are you ever going to do smw world 2+2

  • the hackers need to find some more music to put in their hacks

the music is good, but is kind of boring listen to the same custom songs in every mario hack

  • Woo hoo, someone finally used the Barrel Volcano theme from Super Mario RPG!

Anyway, I was seriously expecting those blue thorns to be destructible with a shell...I guess that's not possible in the SMW engine.

  • I think you should do another yoshi island hack raocow. For me it was something i would always watch every morning because it was so entertaining. Mario world hacks are not as entertaining as they used to be so please do another yoshi island hack again sometime soon.

  • There is a total of like three completed yoshi island hack in existance.

    Don't hold your breath :/

  • I find Mario Hacks to be way more interesting.

If only for the fact that you dindt have to find every coin in a Mario Hack. Tedious to watch

  • @americandream112 This isn't always true, there are a few hacks that require you to gather every coin, or to avoid them completely which can be more difficult at times.

  • I want reffering to Mario Hacks in particular, just the fact that Raocows LPs where he doesnt have to find every items, are way more interesting to me.

  • Unfortunately, if you want him to do a Yoshi Island hack, you might have to make one yourself! There are only a couple Yoshi Island hacks and he's already done two of them.

  • lol yoshi can't shut up here

  • Whats the music in "The burnt forest"?

  • @mockingod Rumia's Theme from Touhou.

  • My name is Hunter!

  • The things raocow say are always great quotes to bring up in a conversation.

  • Why is there a LoZ Heart system where the levels showcased here have little to no obstacles pertaining to it?

Honestly, while the creator has some decent music/background tastes, the level designs I seen from him are sub-par. I watched the Hunter/ScorpianblahblahMythosThingblah somewhere else...It's different. The other designers have their levels leaning towards Kaizo and this guy is way lighter. It's different. Indeed.

  • It starts off soft, but this is the start of the game.

Do you really want to play a Kaizo hack when the game is supposed to start off easy?

  • Oh, and a few things to note:

    1. You will hate Hunter a lot. Or Magikoopa bosses, period.

    2. It gets better.

    3. The stories are... somewhat complex, but they're actually really easy to understand. Basically, if you ever think it'll be confusing, just take Bowser, think of his role, and substitute his name for Randor/Hunter/SCORPION/Sniggerbobble.

    4. If you ever see the name 'SCORPION', turn down the volume of the music. Because the chose bg music is really, really loud.

  • @DSUltimate.

Your #4 is ment for the blackhole I think right?

  • Originally yes (especially the character page), but... the favoured background music for SCORPION in general is extremely loud. As are many of the other songs in these kinds of hacks (one in a Hunter's Revenge game was nearly ear hurting because of this, although it was somewhat catchy).

  • It doesn't look bad so far.

  • Just let you know you made a typo in the SMWCentral link, the M and W are switched, I wondered, because the link didn't worked.

  • Is that Touhou music I hear?

  • Freaking hell, didn't expect this hack! Seen NinjaBoy play it, and it's fantastic, so good luck raocow!

  • yeah same

  • The music and visuals are great :o

  • Scraptions?

  • My only problem with these levels is that they just feel empty (no enemies), and some music is just there for the sake of it.. Other than that, I'll hold judgment until you play more of this since it can either get better (kinda like YEAH!!) or fall on it's face (the hacks after it).

  • I ripped the background from the first level xD

  • By that I mean I ripped it from a game and submitted it to SMWC.

  • Stop missing chances to say Bootleg Yoshi :(

  • People, this is the early game.

Think of the difficulty curve here, of COURSE the first world will have stages that are easier and shorter.

  • BUT l WANT TRAUMA TOWER RIGHT NOW RAWRGH

  • Your fanbase is brainwashed into thinking that all hacks should be ridiculously hard and have a "demo" every 10 seconds.

They need to learn that quality hacks aren't insanely difficult, and can tell a good story at the same time.

  • I don't know where you get that from, most people, from what I see on Raocow's forum like these hacks.

  • From what I'm seeing in the comments here, that's a different story.

Of course, I joined the forums, but I never really read them, so over there is a different story than Youtube.

  • Agree

  • @IHeartMySnes The story starts in randor land 1

  • what a weird hack, but looking forward to it anyway

  • This hack seems pretty cool, and if i had an rpg walk style like that, i would hide some levels. that's the only reason i could thing of for that type of thing

  • It was a mess. Whoever chose the palette was blind.

  • Hell yeah.

  • Wow this hack (sofar) sucks. One puzzle always p switches per level and only like two enemies? The levels are short as hll too and filled with pointless text blocks. The environment isn't asthetically pleasing either.

I pray this actually gets better but somehow I doubt it.

  • a romhack's quality is not directly tied to its difficulty, and it's the first stages, they're meant to be easy.

  • It does get better. I played it. The message blocks are tied into the story. This is the early game- like raocow said, it starts out really easy. I have only gotten to world 3, but I assume it will be hard near the endgame.

  • I don't like this hack. It's a typical SMW Central thing.

  • Re:Cirno Music

I don't think a lot of people who make rom hacks or amateur game makers in general realize that music can convey a lot of atmosphere, and just opt to use whatever sounds good to them. Which is really a shame because you get silly things like Cirno's theme, which not even knowing the source does convey some feelings of childishness, in the futuristic space frontier land. Or that really cheery music in the desolate village on the burning mountain. :\

  • I was thinking this too.

Touhou music in particular carries a huge amount of personality (Someone did a whole analysis on the significance of instrumentation and the melodies and notes used and stuff and how it speaks about the characters), as does lots of other music. It can sound good, but it also causes some huge dissonance when used improperly.

  • @GarlyleWilds why are you so pretentious

  • Who did that analysis, and where can I find it?

  • I believe it was done by Fightest. It should be findable somewhere on the Maidens of the Kaleidoscope forums, but... I can't seem to find it right now. I might have the wrong person, but yeah.

Sorry I can't be any more help than that D:

  • Thanks anyway man. I suppose I'll have to comb through the old posts in that forum one day. Didn't some parts of it close or get deleted or something, though? I recall the shot-power comparisons by that Chensaw or Chainsaw or something dude disappearing a while back.

  • The forum has been moved & wiped at a couple of points. However, I know the music analysis was on the current incarnation of the forums, so it should be there somewhere.

  • Oh it's that game. I played the demo it was good

  • Everytime I hear that, I hear, "BAKA JANAI YO!" But yeah. Ah, good ol' Cirno, it's seriously Touhou hour though XD.

  • Jesus christ you're funny as hell xD

  • Ok, fire emblem, then Rumia's theme, Mario 1 Level ending, CIRNO'S THEME...This game's music is ALL OVER the place! D8

Wow this game looks, ok? I guess this looks promising!

    - Luz

  • That health meter thing is so weird. Mushrooms give you health back, but other power ups don't. But ? Blocks only give mushrooms if you're small.

    I don't care for it.

  • The Yellow Switch Palace block always gives mushrooms, yet I never see people use them.

You think it would be smart to use them more than other powerups.

  • Ah, JELLJELL's hack, he made me an overworld for my hack, lol. JellJell, if you read this, thanks again! lol

  • What is the song in The Holographic Maze level?

  • Cirno's Theme.

  • Ohhhh, I've been looking forward to this since JELLO told me it was happening; Can't wait to see the rest of this, I adore this game as it is.

  • Hey, SCORPION's hack is actually pretty good.

It's just the last level that's questionable in the awesome department.

  • Nice Barrel Volcano music.

  • Oh wow, I wasn't expecting my favorite hack since the Fourth Sector! O:

  • I think this looks quite good so far. Looking forward to it.

  • roacow how will you pick what vanilla hack levels you do, are you only gonna do the top three?

  • It's what you said, it's the begining of a thing, it get's better and longer later on, because the levels might seem pretty easy and short, but that'll change.

  • Man, even when you aren't playing SDM, you just can't escape Touhou, huh.

  • Indeed, Touhou will always live, in our hearts.

And also in some mario hacks.

    And in the game itself.

Oh well, you got the point!

  • where?what?which?no? :D

  • yay a new series! =)

  • i like the SMW sprites with the over all yoshi island feel

kewl rom so far, can't wait for more

  • oh Timothybor played this whilst it was still a demo. It'll be nice to see it in full!

  • yes he did i remember watching that, never thought raocow would play this.

  • you will have no idea whats going on, unless you play the other S.C.O.R.P.I.O.N and metalgearhunter games xD

  • Comment removed

  • Well, he don't know who Hunter is, soo.

  • @ Zaziuma

Yeah, I guess you got a point, but I don't think he'll mind all that much.

  • Well, at least we know he's going to hate Hunter after this is all said and done.

  • Is that some Apparations stalk the night? (Touhou and funny you're playing SDM lol...)

  • u phail... cuz raocow was first because he uploads the video and i think he watches like the first minute
