  • i've played it in GT psp . it has outrageous acceleration, but it has only 3-speed transmission and got top speed of 338km/h becoz of limit gears . hmm , sounded like a rocket though :)

  • it was a standard transmission with a torque converter instead of a clutch.

  • What I want to know is...was the snowmobile engine's throttle adjusted by the driver to his liking, or was it just spun up to maximum rpm the whole length of the race?

  • The sucker engines are two snowmobile engines rated at 45 HP.

  • thumbs up if you hate this car in GT5 like me! >:-< i mean, it's a beast, i lost those 2 races (Monaco & Deep Forest) in B-Spec lots and lots of times ...

  • @marcomolinari94 It's fast there... You can't imagine how fast it is when a human driver uses it, i'm not particularily good and i've ever been beaten. It's faster than the Toyota 7 and has 70 pp less.

  • on gran turismo it looks so small and puny

  • saw it at the festival of speed at goodwood, its pretty fast...

  • Nice, now try to put it inside your home and use it as a mobile vacuum :P

  • 45 hp snow mobile engine powers the fans.

  • wow its a lot bigger than it looks in gran turismo :D

  • This BITCH is getting on my nerves in GT PSP and GT5! Good thing i got my X1!

  • Ancestor of X2010

  • fast as fuck but ugly as fuck. guess speed comes with a price

  • the fan is to loud

  • I have that cam am odyssey dvd and said this kicked everyones butt before it was banned. 70? 71?

  • i dont know why haven't yall asked this yet............WHERE`S THE BACK TIRES???

  • edit: the 2J was the first car with a blower, which is the important thing for today's F1 cars.

  • RACES NOWDAYS ARE TO LIMITED, EVERY CAR IS ALMOST THE SAME SHIT, SAME SOUND, SAME SHIT! Love that car.

  • @MrRaphaelLippi same here

  • to beat this in GT5 in the Historic Race in the Expert series, get the Toyota 7... drop the suspension all the way, toe-out should be -0.20, camber 1.5, drop the spring rate down to to 10 and 12 respectively. Aero down force should be max, also drop the transmission to 174mph... Then you can gold B-Spec AND A-Spec with relative ease as your car will corner nearly as effectively as the 2J...

  • let's give it to the stig

  • what´s happening guys?

  • the start up sounds exactly like it is in GT5!! Guys go get the game.

  • when i was young i thoug it has an engine from a plane XD

  • This SOB car is impossible to beat in GT5, bspec

  • I HATE it in GT5..but amazing concept :)

  • Ugliest car ever!

  • its real

  • this car is amazing !!!!

  • This car is like a train wreck. Horrifying to look at. But I can't look away. It's mesmerizing. And it runs like a champion GT PSP. This car, the Veyron, the GTbyCitroen and the GT-R are my go to cars when I'm tired of losing with all my other cars.

  • Adding weight didn't matter.

a snowmobile engine is just an engine, you can tune it and set it up to run in any ambient temperature

This car when it came out was over 1 second faster per lap at laguna than its closest competition.

it wasnt just downforce, it was sucked to the ground, at any speed, not just at higher speeds like with a wing.

it was amazingly fast for how crude and poorly executed it was

  • Very cool, innovative car. Fans & skirts to make ground suction/grip.

  • Road and Track said it was a snowmobile engine in the sixties.

  • never realized how big these are...either that thing is huge or that is one really tiny man.

  • the back fans are run by snowmobile engines i heard, that car is so ugly but its got balls

  • I Dont know..Whats The type of the engine of that car? is very interesting..the 2j is amazing.

  • The main engine is a Chevrolet 427 cubic inch (I believe). I don't know about the little engine running the fans.

  • @gigem85 its a 45hp snow mobile engine, used to suck air from underneath to keep it gripping amazingly even at low speeds, engineering feat really, and i dont say that often about american cars.

  • @gigem85 a snowmobile engine powers the fans

  • @gigem85 the smaller motor running the fans is from a snowmobile

  • @gigem85 Snomobile engine is powering the fans

  • @gigem85 Little engine running the fans is a 45hp snowmobile engine i believe..

  • @gigem85 The engine runing the fans is a 45 hp snowmobile engine

  • @gigem85 i believe those are polaris snowmobile engines i think not 100% sure though

  • @gigem85 it's fans use a snowmobile engine

  • @gigem85 its a 45 hp snowmobile engine

  • @gigem85 the two motors running the fans a 45hp snowmobile engines

  • @gigem85 It seems that the engine running the fans is an snowmobile engine.

  • @gigem85 motor that ran the fans was a 2 stroke snowmobile motor,

  • @gigem85 the little engine was meant for a snowmobile

  • @gigem85 the fan is a snow mobile motor

  • @gigem85 45hp snow mobile engine haha

  • @gigem85 snow mobile engines I think

  • @gigem85 Main 750hp and the fans are runned by snowmobile engine (about 50hp)

  • @MrRod787 the other engine is from a snowmobile used to suck the air out from under the car to make it stick to the road

  • In the rear of the car isnt that a turbine just like Airplanes have ?

  • No. Those are fans that are driven by a snow mobile engine. The fans create a vacuum under the car by pulling the air out and exhausting it out the back.

This creates downforce which makes the car stick to the pavement better. Race cars use spoilers and wings to create downforce but they have to be moving for them to work. With the fans you create downforce even standing still.

  • Right, very Impressive i didnt know that thanks for the explication XD

  • @gigem85 yeah but spoilers pushes the car to the ground without adding extra waight .I know nothig about this car ,but if you say the snowmobile engiens ''sucks'' the car to the ground , it actualy adds waight. Plus snowmobile engiens arent made to run in hot weather, im pretty sure that car generates high teperatures. Kinda useless aa?

  • spoilers require the car to be moving to generate downforce. The 2J generates about the same amount of downforce if it is sitting still or going full out. The fans can be slowed down to lessen downforce for top speed and sped up for corners. This is what you want. To get downforce at slow speed (corners) with spoilers you have to have aggressive angles- your top end will suffer because drag will increase as speed increases.

The advantages far outweigh the the little bit of extra weight.

  • You can change wings on the fly using motors or pneumatics. you can even change the shape of wings using motors and pushrods or form voltaic fibre material or semi stiff materials with malleable formers etc so your aggressive angles thing doesn't stack up. They weren't aware of these technologies when they designed the fan car.

  • I'm not positive it is a snow mobile engine - but air moving over the engine will keep it cool. It's been a long long time since I saw a snow mobile but I believe the engines are somewhat enclosed which will allow it to retain some heat. Engines run more efficiently if they are warmer and not cold.

  • @gigem85 Yes i get your point and its not that crazy what you say .But most snowmobile engiens are liquid cooled and opperate best at temperatures of 5°c to -26° ( 21°F to -25°F). The aspiration part is good but snowmobile engiens ,not the best thing.. I may do a small reserch ,you made me curius to find out!

  • LIke I said I'm not too familiar with snow mobile engines. Remember this was built in the 60's. I'll see if I can get some more info.

    thanks for your interest jojomoor.

  • @jojomoor The engine was from a snowmobile but it was tuned to run in warm weather and warm conditions, it was just a matter of setting the engine up. And even though the engine added weight it made up for it with grip. This car was able to blast everything in the corners, even cars with extremely radical aerodynamics and drag cancelling. They had a lot of other weight saving features in the car to counteract things but the downforce of that small engine more than made up for the added weight

  • @jojomoor It's a 45hp 2-stroke air-cooled JLO Rockwell engine. It was indeed heavy and they never worked out all the bugs before it was banned from Can-Am racing. Definitely not useless though, the drivers of the day who raced it had never experienced such grip on take-off , through slow-to-medium speed corners, or under braking.

  • you can play this car on Gran turismo psp! soo funn its like a rOCKET!!!

  • rocket-refrigirator. anyone knows is it possible to buy this car?

  • @zemen51 more is like vacuum cleaner

  • very fast hoover.

  • KE BRUTTA

  • i saw it race at riverside ca. 1970 . Divers complained they were pelted by rocks from the twin fans driving behind car. Most that saw the car though it was a joke . It didnt do well either at the race because of mechanical problems.

  • I think they did have some mechanical problems but that is to be expected when you are cutting edge and coming up with new cars so often. I can imagine all the dirt, rocks, rubber being blown out the back would make other drivers mad. ha ha

  • @rob11751 I believe that's the race when near the end of the race the snowmobile engine broke, effectively killing the cars ability to stick to the ground. The design was so effective, that every race team officially complained to the SCCA and they finally ruled that it was a "movable aerodynamic device" and so it was banned. The car also had a 3 speed semi automatic transmission, it was shifted like a manual, but having no clutch, it required careful rev matching to shift.

  • @revtune, the transmission was a 2 speed Powerglide with a clutch attached to the torque converter. Like an old 48 Plymouth set-up. The speed range was selected before the race and never changed during a race. The driver never shifted. The car made so much horsepower (Reynolds Aluminum 427 block) that shifting wasn't needed. The clutched was used to start the car and that was it.

  • in most situations i would love this as a get away car after a bank job or somthing .. those cops behind you getting gravel blasted

  • I'd like to see it go against a CanAm 917/30, manno un manno, no holds barred.

Find that ultimate TRUTH the officials denied....

    Jesse

  • dude so how do people like u driving it on the street?

  • A so small car and it must be very fast and good for corners but someone told me their is no suspensions on that car. If a stone is on the track, will it get suck it up and spit it out the back?

  • Yes there is a suspension. When the fan is on it creates over 1,000 pounds of downforce. You can see the car compress the suspension. Yes it will suck up debris and spit it out the back. That is one way to keep cars from getting too close. :-)

  • awesome lm car

    beautiful :D

  • it was a shame that the officials in those days banned Chaparral and his cars such as this 2J from racing just because he beat everyone.

    [ ]s

  • Uau!!! Chaparral, meio carro meio sei lá oque... é história!!!

  • Meio carro meio aviao

  • E sem aerofolio!!! hehehe, gênio hein...
