I know English went through some valleys,but his voice isn't anywhere close to what it used to be when he sang with the Singing Americans in the mid 1980's. Listen to the live and alive and black and white albums when he sung Welcome to heaven and Bowed on my knees. My daddy took me to see them in 1983 right up the road from our home in NC when I was 12 yrs old.

I had never heard of Micheal English or Midnight cry. I wasn't even a regular chuch goer at the time. My husband had weeks to live dying from a brain tumor. I passed a music store went in a brought this cd out to the blue. It was played at my husband funeral and I will never forget God drawing me to it. I love it today.

I personally like the original version with Gold City. The tune was modified. Don't like the "balad" or "pop" sound that Michael sings it with. I would like to have heard how he originally sang the song the first time.
