I always thought the "hey, play a song from my ipod" idea was kinda unrealistic, my first gig i ended up playing from the one persons iphone. i love the numark mixdeck, great video.
I have the mixdeck and i actually REGRET this purchase. its a good product, but after just a month use i'm looking for an upgrade.
the mixdeck is about $700 which comes with the traktor demo, eventually you'll want to upgrade to traktor pro ($120) and to use all the features of traktor pro with the mixdeck, you'll want the kontrol x1 ($200)
this brings you to around $1000,
might as well get the traktor pro s4 for about $1000, has more features and it comes with traktor pro already. youtube it
@thaatxboss - But the S4 although a good controller. It doesn't have balanced XLR in/outs which to me still puts this controller a little over. And the S4 isn't compatible with other Djing software. Plus with the Mixdeck Quad coming out....Alot of improvements have been made to this unit. And as well with the software. In my opinion, yea you would have to spend a little more to maybe have the extra features that you want. But the controller already does a lot more than the S4.
@BBoyInferno2k3 Just checked out the Mixdeck Quad, and I agree that its a huge improvement from the original Mixdeck and definitely thinking of picking one up. :)
And the reason I brought up the S4 was to make a reference to another similar product others may not be familiar with.
Should have made that a bit clearer, so my mistake.
@thaatxboss - It's all good, I was in no ways bashing your comment or the NI Control S4 I am a Traktor dj so I like the unit. But the XLR thing is what put me off about it. Just like Pioneer with the DDJ T-1, I was so upset the Serato version has the XLR in/out but the Traktor one doesn't. The downside with the Mixdeck unit to me is the fact if you use Timecode, which I still use at times. You can't use the effects of the CDJ's over the timecode cd's....
@thaatxboss - Also that you would need to buy an sub controller to control your softwares effects, be it timecode or midi. But the other options to me does out weight those negatives. Also Gemini has an all in one unit coming out soon called the CDMP 7000, there is one video on it here on youtube. But on google there is images of it. It looks pretty slick. But the Mixdeck Quad I do want for the simple fact of the now 4 deck control. That is what is taking up my intrest!
can this play thru your pc speakers on a desktop pc as i have sound audigy 2 5.1 surround with vdj pro.. would i also be able to listen to both sides of a and b with my headphones?
@deffdude This guy is a good salesman, showing you all the features and trying to create excitement, not much different than what you see on QVC or HSN.
questions are about the Numark Mixdeck. First question if I plug in a external hardrive into the usb in the corner will I be able to browse by folder? Second will I be able to view usb songs from the right deck on the left? Third Will Traktor be able to be on both platters at the same time? Fourth question when playing traktor will the mixdeck allow me to scratch traktor music physically?
Fifth will VDJ6 recognize the decks both as timecodes?
Can you have a track from lets say your iPod or hard drive play on both deck A and deck B at the same time? Like 2 different tunes but from the same device.
You can play 2 different tracks at the same time as long as there is a CD or Media Drive on each side. The Ipod does not drop tracks to each deck. The left deck is sourced by one of 2 ways same wtih the right side. You can only play one tune at a time from each device but you can mix between all 3 at the same time.
I saw the unit and played around with it, feels nice, sturdy wheels, looks alot smaller than the pics. The only thing this could of had was a 4 line mixer instead of 3, so you can use 4 decks and record the set via ipod. Also im kinda sceptic on numarks slot load drives, they seem to give out after a while. I have had two numark products and that happened to the both :-(
Hey please tell me you played on traktor while using it. Did traktor scratch from the mixdeck and did it set A on left and B on right or just both on one deck?
Guitar Center has it on their site for 699. Funny thing is, when Numark sent out the first set of product shots, it was missing a knob on the left-bottom. I think you can still see it on the Musicians friend site. Things that make you go HMMM....
Everything seems goood. The only thing I need to know, if anyone tried this, how exactly do you record your sets with the ipod dock? Anyone? It does say on numarks site.
Somehow though I think I'd get laughed at spinning on a deck/combo with an iPod attached though. Numark I'd love to give you more favorable reviews on my Youtube forum here, but until you make a piece of gear that isn't aimed at the masses and aimed more at the serious dj, I'm not sure I can.
I think I have to disagree with you. As a dj myself, units like this are nice options. The appeal is there, but the mass appeal isn't. I think only serious dj's would give this unit a chance to have an option besides Cdjs/Turntables and a Mixer. Numark has stepped it's game up big time and I know a lot of my fellow dj friends have their analog sets and now are starting to get mixsets like this. Be it B52, Ns7. Or others. I don't think you're any less serious using this setup
@djphunknasty, how could u give any review if you haven't touched the unit? You base ur review on it being a so called all-in-one? Having 5 grand worth of equipment doesn't make you a good DJ, if you're good and you rock it on something like the mixdeck then youre a trend setter and you wouldn't get laughed at, you'd get respect. Numark is breaking new ground, this is a solid piece and once the word spreads that for half the price of 1 CDJ you could everything you need, its on.
Do you work for Numark Groovey? That sounds similar to a sales pitch to me. While I will agree that Numark has gotten a bit better over the last few years, I think you'll find that very few Dj's worth their salt will purchase Numark gear, especially when there's an iPod dock on the top of it. That just screams "Anyone can be a DJ, here you dj with your iPod." I like the fact that Numark tries new things, but sometimes I feel they'd be better off if they just stuck with the conservative approach.
@djphunknasty, no I don't work for Numark but being a DJ for as long as I have, it gets to me when people write equipment off for ridiculous reasons, when DJ cd decks first came out, "real DJs didn't use them" until they were up to par with scratching and pitch control, now everything is simulated to copy a turntable, it only makes logical sense that this is the next step in DJing, midi controllers, usb drives, its easy, and compact and it gets the job done without compromising on quality.
and who cares if there's an Ipod dock on top? You worry about the look?? That what you worry about? You need to worry about getting your scratching up to par and your DJ skill and not worry bout being laughed at because of a so called all-in-one and an Ipod dock...real DJs rock a party with skill and how they use whatever they have, not because they have the best equipment, u could have the best and still suck...and sucking will get you laughed much quicker than using the mixdeck.
I been looking to get a cdj set up like to to branch from the Mk2 and pioneer mixer I use now. I was set on the B-52 Prodigy Fx, but now I'm kinda liking this. I really want to check this out before I make a full choice. To bad they don't have the NS7 as stand alone cdj system like this.
I'm thinking about it too. Also, you can use it with Serato, it has deck outputs so you can use it with the SL1/SL3 box. I'm not a big fan of Traktor. =]
@djtekno Yea, but I would be using the serato. More familiar interface. But I'm confused on pssl they say they have the traktor edition. So is it two versions of this comming out?
It means that the faders, the crossfader and the EQ are not midi mappable and not controlled by Traktor. The mixer is an onboard mixer since it will also control the cd decks. Its not really much of an issue, you just put Traktor in external mode and then you can use the mixer controls on the mixdeck. The EQ in Traktor would have to be controlled with hotkeys or a mouse but it would be a little over kill since the mixer has EQ.
without reading specs, you'll control it via USB. The system will no doubt come with Traktor LE but all that will be required is an upgrade to Traktor Pro (same as TS Pro but without the DSP patch) but for just $99 instead of $499
Only, and I mean only, negative is no pitch control for tracks loaded from ipod dock. Yes, you can control pitch w/itunes from laptop using Traktor software, but would like option of leaving laptop @ home. Other than that, an all-in-one beast! Portable & user-friendly 4 beginner DJ like myself. Had a great time with my iDJ2 when it first came out. Now I want to sell it to put $ towards something like this.
